Summary: Meter door keypad locks installed

Dates on this page

Tue Sep 1, 2026

Followup with neighbors about keypad lock installations for our meter doors. Late breakfast: leftover taco salad from last night's dinner, hot water. Weeded my Google address books. Lunch: leftover pappardelle with meatball sauce, hot water. Walked to a medical appointment and back, stopping at a corner market for a lemonade on the way there. Walked to Cafe de Casa and back. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover tortilla chips and guac, Cafe de Casa meat pie things via Too Good To Go, hot water. Patrick also had a glass of red wine. Afterwards we watched Ride or Die s1:e7 on Amazon Prime Video then Ted Lasso s4:e5 on Apple TV. Patrick went to bed. Troubleshot problems with Apple Reminders reminders failing to synch between my Mac and my iPhone.

Wed Sep 2, 2026

Breakfast at home: plain yogurt with blueberries and sliced half banana and Patrick's homemade granola, hot water. Submitted a Wayback Machine exclusion request. Reviewed tax paperwork and other financial info. Lunch: 1.5 small quesadillas with grated white cheddar and mushrooms which Patrick had sauteed earlier, hot water. Followup with website outage notifications. Continued repairing scraped door edges and door jambs with wood putty. Realized that the insert of the new front door bottom we installed on the lower entry door was now falling off because the door is too tight along the bottom. I used the bent hinge technique to give it a few millimeters more room, and it does feel a bit better now. Continued wood putty work. Vacuumed in work areas. Late afternoon snack: ginger ale with ice, cheesy crackers. Prepped for dinner. Recharge Medical web work: translated one phrase in the right sidebar that I had forgotten to translate. Did more weeding of notes in my notetaking application. Later I prepared for Patrick and me ramen noodles with gourmet mushrooms, spinach, green onions, black sesame seed, and soft-boiled egg. Mine also included Argentine red shrimp and assorted fish cake. Patrick's also included togarashi. Dessert: homemade chocolate chip cookies from frozen, cherry bark. We watched Ride or Die s1:e8 (season finale) on Amazon Prime Video then YouTube. Changed a setting on the south bathroom washlet (turned auto wand clean off). Prepped with ChatGPT for installing AdGuard Home to replace AdGuard DNS.

Breakfast at home: plain yogurt with blueberries and Patrick's homemade granola, hot water. Lunch: half sharp yellow cheddar and spinach quesadilla, hot water. In the afternoon Patrick and I walked and rode Muni to Jackson Square. We walked in the neighborhood stopping at shops and buying nothing. We took a break at Blue Bottle Coffee: hot New Orleans coffee for Patrick, iced New Orleans coffee for me. We walked through Transamerica Redwood Park. We stopped in Sydney G. Walton Square and read from a paperback book (me, starting Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs) or Kindle (Patrick, from Iguana by Vincent Traughber Meis). Later, we dined for the first time at Verjus (500 Washington Street), which has recently received many accolades: New York Times America's Best Restaurants 2025, San Francisco Chronicle Top 100 Restaurants in the Bay Area 2025, Infatuation San Francisco's Best New Restaurants of 2025, and sister restaurant to nearby Quince and Cotogna. We had an early booking of 4:30 p.m. We sat at table 35 which was directly adjacent to where plates are picked up, so you get to see every plate before it goes out. Glass of envinate lousas 2023 for Patrick, glass of lafond tavel rose 2024 for me. We shared: melon jambon cru, gougere, squash blossom, beef ribs. Dessert: mousse au chocolat, which is served tableside, two large serving-spoonfuls into an empty bowl on the table. Patrick also had an espresso. All food and drink were delicious. Service by Peter was excellent. Patrick called it a very satisfying meal, and I agree. $202.64 after tax and before a $32 tip. Walked and rode Muni home, stopping briefly at and walking partly through Downtown First Thursday. Later we watched YouTube then The Simpsons s37:e9 on Hulu. Patrick went to bed. I joined 3.5 hours later just before midnight.

Fri Sep 4, 2026

Walked with Patrick to breakfast at Le Marais Bistro: we shared a breakfast board with 7 items: tomato salad with vinaigrette, scrambled eggs, bacon, morning bun, croissant, yogurt with blueberries, granola. Water and lattes to drink. Each non-pastry item comes in a small bowl; it's a little odd to each scrambled eggs and bacon from the cups. A 1.5-inch black hair appeared on my table adjacent to the board just after the board arrived, and I don't know where it came from. It could have been mine, but I doubt it from the way it looked. I picked it up with my fingers and dropped it to the floor. Our helper at the register forgot to include the croissant in our order, but it was not a big deal to get up and request it and to grab another set of utensils with napkin since only one was brought with the board. The food and drink were delicious. The board was a little too much food for us—we stuffed ourselves and left a tiny bit behind—but it was probably a perfect amount for three persons. We left. Patrick visited his mom and Kerry. I walked home. Removed dirt and leaves and a small amount of standing water from the exterior stairwell with the leaf blower, then used the leaf blower inside the garage to push dirt and dust out into the street. Dusted the bannister with a microfiber towel. Vacuumed the upper level. Recharge Medical web work: minor web page edits, reformulated page-toc to resolve case issues and broken links, rechecked links, overrode the shortcode-ui plugin to make it use divs instead of dls for callouts because the code it generated failed to validate due to the failure to include dd elements. Skipped lunch because I wasn't hungry. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Fiorella: pepperoni pizza. Dessert (from elsewhere): macarons. Water to drink. Patrick also had a glass of red wine. Afterwards we watched Jazz Fest: A New Orleans Story on Kanopy, which was really excellent in every way. The film won Best Music Film at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards in 2023. Patrick went to bed. I watched YouTube, including Psychology of Polymaths: Why Having Multiple Interests Is an Unfair Advantage. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. I'm one chapter in, and it's quite well-written. Late snack: one nectarine, water.

Sat Sep 5, 2026

Walked to breakfast at Orphan Andy's with Sam and Patrick: Sam and Patrick each had The Big 2 with pancakes. I had a breakfast bagel with a side of home fries. Decaf coffee for Sam, regular coffee for Patrick and me. While we were there something exciting happened, but I can't say what. Afterwards we walked home. Sam and Patrick left in Sam's car to shop for groceries. I cleaned soffit vent covers above the outside of the garage door. I used the Husqvarna 350iB leaf blower for the last time. After using it the battery appears to have died and failed to charge. I purchased this five months ago and used it about once a month. I spent several hours trying to determine how to file a warranty claim, but the task proved so difficult that I decided I'm just going to give up and call my $400 purchase a loss. I'll never buy anything from Husqvarna again, and I certainly won't visit the city of the same name. At least now I know to not buy gardening equipment from a 337-year-old company that originally created rifles. Continued repairing scraped door edges and door jambs with wood putty. Foot care. Wasn't hungry enough for a full lunch, but midafternoon Patrick made banana shakes and I partook. Later, dinner at home with Patrick: Patrick prepared caprese sandwiches with potato chips. Hot water to drink. Afterwards we watched Steel Magnolias (1989), which neither of us had seen. Patrick made us limoncello cocktails. After the film, we watched a little of YouTube, then Patrick went to bed. I cleaned the kitchen, deep-cleaned the range hood, and started the dishwasher. Late snack: salted pistachios, dried bing cherries, roasted and salted cashews.

Sun Sep 6, 2026

Breakfast at home: Patrick's homemade granola with plain yogurt and blueberries, hot water. Updates and backups for devices and websites. Continued repairing scraped door edges and door jambs with wood putty. Plant care. Dusted all screens. Dusted variously on the upper level. Lunch: Patrick had oatmeal, I had leftover ramen. Water to drink. Afternoon snack: banana-mango smoothie. Shopped online with Patrick for dinnerware. Dinner at home with Patrick: spinach ravioli in alfredo sauce, hot water. I made us margaritas. Afterwards we rewatched Monty Python and the Holy Grail with microwave popcorn, rye chocolate chip cookies, and milk. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes, washed some dishes by hand, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher.

Mon Sep 7, 2026

Washed laundry. Breakfast: leftover ramen to which I added TJ's instant thai wheat noodles. Hot water to drink. Deep-cleaned the dish rack. Cleaned the dishwasher filter. Followup work with the north bedroom closet door: in the latch assembly the metal plate behind the faceplate cracked into three pieces, two of which fell out. the handle still worked, so I used green painter's tape to adhere the pieces that fell out, then reattached the faceplate to hold everything in place. The faceplate bulges a bit on the left side, but it must have done that before we bought the home, and it does not interfere with the handle operation. I am pretty sure that is a problem I did not introduce. Foot care. Folded laundry. Walked and rode Muni to Arquet at the Ferry Building Marketplace for lunch with Phil and Drew at table 11 which was adjacent to a door and along the windows facing east. Sparkling and still water. Appetizer: we shared burrata with melted leeks ($18) with extra burrata toast ($3), which was very delicious. There was a long delay—perhaps 20 minutes—before the mains arrived: Phil had dungeness crab cakes ($36), Drew had chicken of the woods mushrooms with lumache ($24), and Patrick and I shared a cheeseburger and fries ($28). Service by Jaswinder K was good when it arrived but extremely infrequent. He apologized for the infrequency at one point. It was unclear to me what exactly was the issue. The crab cakes were too salty but we did not complain about it. The cheeseburger was tasty and correctly cooked to our order (medium), and the fries were perfectly crispy and flavorful. No dessert. Because our first visit had gone so well, we were disappointed with this visit especially since we were introducing Phil and Drew to this restaurant. Afterwards we walked through the Ferry Building a while, buying nothing. Phil and Drew departed. Patrick and I walked to Embarcadero Station. On the Muni ride back, Patrick and I encountered Leslie M, Sammie, and Brooklyn and chatted for the duration of the ride. They had just returned from a visit to Alcatraz. At home I continued folding laundry and cleaned washlet odor filters. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. Dinner at home with Patrick: boiled dumplings in a soy-garlic sauce with green onions with fried green onion pancake, hot water, white wine. We watched Big Mouth s3:e5 on Netflix then Patton Oswalt in Tea & Scotch on Amazon Prime Video.

Tue Sep 8, 2026

Breakfast: I prepared for myself two eggs, small sausage patty, hash brown patty, and toast with salted butter. Hot water to drink. Lunch: two corns on the cob, cold water. Chatted with Dan P who dropped off his locks and key and I visited his place to see window screens and talk about home improvement projects. Measured window frames and recorded markings from the corners of the windows. Dinner at home with Patrick: grilled salmon and homemade mac n' cheese, hot water. I processed dirty dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher. We watched Ted Lasso s4:e6 on Apple TV then The Simpsons s37:e10 on Hulu then rewatched 22 minutes of John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid on Netflix. Patrick went to bed. I remained awake a few hours more before going to bed.

Wed Sep 9, 2026

Breakfast: plain yogurt with one diced nectarine and Patrick's homemade granola, hot water. Cleaned the kitchen because cleaning from last night wasn't finished. Plant care. Updated my medical cheat sheet. Lodestar Quarterly work: restored a work following discussion with the author. Lunch: leftover Patrick's homemade mac and cheese, cold water. Began dusting the south bedroom. Patrick and I rode Uber and back to a medical appointment on California Street. Afterwards we walked to errands and back. Along the way I got a chocolate-vanilla swirl soft serve ice cream cone with TCHO chocolate dip coating ($7) at Super Duper Burgers. Finished dusting the south bedroom. Downloaded backups of cloud data for archiving. Recharge Medical work: began coding an html email campaign: notify USCIS lawyers of new blog posts. Dinner at home with Patrick: DoorDash delivery from Thanh Tam II: Patrick had grilled chicken with egg roll noodles, I had grilled pork and shrimp noodles. Thai iced teas for both. We watched A Nice Indian Boy on Amazon Prime Video and loved it. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen.

Thu Sep 10, 2026

Slept in. Late breakfast: leftover Patrick's homemade mac and cheese, fire-roasted corn off the cob from frozen, water. Recharge Medical work: email campaign adjustments following feedback. Shopped online for a tape dispenser to replace the terrible one included with Nexcare medical tape. It seems like a simple task, but I have been spending hours on this. Late lunch: Patrick's leftovers from Thanh Tam II: chicken with noodles, water. Recharge Medical web work: built and made live a blog post about research suggesting that treating low iron can protect against dementia. Dinner at home with Patrick: sliced deli grilled chicken breast black bean tacos dressed two ways, water. Afterwards we finished rewatching John Mulaney: The Comeback Kid on Netflix then we watched YouTube with Maru-Hi strawberry on ice with peppermint cremes. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher. Fridge organization. Late snack: one nectarine. Installed updates for devices including Command Line Tools for Xcode 27.0 and iOS 26.6.2 and iPadOS 26.6.2. Installed AdGuard Home on my MacBook Pro with walkthrough help from ChatGPT.

Fri Sep 11, 2026

Breakfast at home with Patrick: Patrick prepared spinach and feta fritatta, sourdough toast with salted butter, Nespresso Nola Style Blend, water. Cleaned the kitchen, including light deep-cleaning: walls, inside the oven, some cabinet fronts. Cleaned kitchen floor mats with dish soap solution. Prepared for mailing an item that sold online. All day: Recharge Medical work: email campaign edits. Skipped lunch, wasn't hungry. Cleaned the bathroom, cut my hair, showered, cleaned the bathroom. Dinner at home with Patrick: summer spaghetti with fresh peas, dill, and zucchini; hot water. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Afterwards we watched YouTube with snacks (peppermint cremes, salted cashews, tortas) and tawny port. Patrick went to bed. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. Continued AdGuard Home setup with help from ChatGPT: Patrick's computer. Copied a permissions-setting Automator script from my computer to Patrick's computer. More email campaign tweaks. Followup with a product warranty request: Savior Heat aka Savior E-Sports has not been responding to my messages.

Sat Sep 12, 2026

Breakfast: leftover Patrick's homemade mac and cheese with salmon, hot water. Prepared for mailing an item that sold online. Created glass cleaning solution based on the video "A Ridiculously Easy Way to Clean the INSIDE of Your Windshield (NO Haze or Streaks)" by Silver Cymbal on YouTube. Labeled various spray bottles of homemade solutions. Deep-cleaned the range hood. Errands: post office and drug store. Followup for an item that sold online. Again attempted to find service for the Husqvarna battery and charger which failed after only 5 months of use. Finally, the seventh place I called in order of closeness said they can service it. I calculated that it will cost me about $16 to send it to them. Cleaned the balcony railing with dish soap solution. Afternoon snack with Patrick: banana-chocolate yogurt smoothie. Began using a new tape dispenser to replace the terrible one included with Nexcare medical tape. The tape has a one-inch core and is one inch wide and has a diameter of two inches. The tape dispenser I found that seems to work well is on Amazon and called "Amazing Abby - Tanya - Acrylic Tape Dispenser (1-Pack), Plastic Label Roll Holder, Clear Sticker Organizer, Perfect Office Desktop Storage Solution for Tapes, Labels, Stickers, and More." Cleaned the south bathroom sink and toilet. Hand nail care. Began investigating the html email testing tools testi.at. From the Litmus website I can't even figure out what that company does anymore. I wanted to see the pricing of their html email testing tools but couldn't figure out what it would cost or even where they talked about them. Patrick and I began shopping online for mirrors after having an idea of a large one on the north wall of the upper level hallway. No choices made yet. Dinner at home with Patrick: I prepared yakisoba from frozen with gourmet mushrooms, sliced cabbage, green onions, and various fish cake; hot water to drink. Afterwards Patrick wanted to watch a big monster movie, so we rewatched half of Godzilla Minus One with microwave popcorn and tawny port. Then we watched a bit of YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs.

Sun Sep 13, 2026

Laundry: all towels. Breakfast at home: plain yogurt with blueberries and Patrick's homemade granola, hot water. Continued configuration of AdGuard Home to replace AdGuard DNS: allowed Google Analytics for webdev work. Lunch: leftover spinach and feta fritatta, water. Errand: bought a box at a nearby store. Afternoon snack with Patrick: banana-blueberry smoothies. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers: Patrick had spinach-feta fritatta with garlic bread, I had yakisoba with fishcake. Hot water to drink. Afterwards I made mezcal margaritas, mine with salt on the rim. Patrick also snacked on roasted salted peanuts while we finished rewatching Godzilla Minus One then watched YouTube. Patrick went to bed. Late snack: salted pistachios. I joined Patrick in bed a few hours later.

Mon Sep 14, 2026

Breakfast: small quesadilla with grated white cheddar, spinach, and TJ's corn and chile salsa without tomato; hot water; Nespresso with toffee syrup and milk. Weeded browser bookmarks related to UCSF. In the late morning locksmith Kevin stopped by to install keypad door locks for the meter doors of our building and our two neighboring buildings built at the same time. He did a great job. We both chatted with neighbor Michelle who arrived home during the install. Skipped lunch; wasn't that hungry. Midafternoon snack: corn chips and TJ's guacamole. Dinner at home with Patrick: butter masala chicken over basmati rice with warm naan, hot water. We watched half of Mayday (2026) on Apple TV. Patrick went to bed. I joined a few hours later.

We watched the remainder of Mayday (2026) on Apple TV then YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I joined a few hours later.

Wed Sep 16, 2026

Breakfast: leftover yakisoba with fish cake and vegetables, hot water. Troubleshot problems with Google authenticating in Apple Calendar: toggling Calendar off and on in Internet Accounts ➝ Google did not fix it, but removing Google entirely and readding it did. I think perhaps changing it from refreshing every 1 minute to every 5 minutes helped, but I am not sure. Lunch at Tanglad with a subset of The Syndicate celebrating a birthday: Adrian, JY, Tim C, Timmy D, Scot B, Scott T, Andy M, John L, Enrique P, Emery M, and two friends of John's. We talked about iPhone Duo, John Ternus, AI doom, yoga, German river cruises, leaving employment, health insurance, home repairs, Sniffies, and more. Packaged the failed Husqvarna battery and charger for shipment to warranty repair, then walked to the post office and back to send it. Dinner at home with Patrick: LaoBan chicken lo mein bowls, hot water. Afterwards Patrick visited his mom while Kerry left to play darts. Later we relaxed in the living room. Patrick went to bed. Late snacks: salted cashews, Gin Gin candy. I reheated softened peanut toffee, but it failed to harden as I had hoped. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. To bed late.

Thu Sep 17, 2026

Breakfast: Patrick's coffee cake, melted cheddar on sourdough toast with cilantro, hot chai with milk. Nap. Lunch at home with Patrick: leftover pizza from Slice House, water. Installed Yofidra Sink Soap Dispenser Extension Tube Kit (Anti-Backflow, 47") to reduce the frequency of refilling our soap dispenser by about 8 times (2 cups versus 1 gallon). Patrick prepared Southern Living's Croissant Breakfast Casserole (Katie Rosenhouse) so that it could chill in the fridge overnight. Fri Sep 18, 2026

Breakfast: Patrick baked Southern Living's Croissant Breakfast Casserole (Katie Rosenhouse). Nespresso and hot water to drink. Re-signed up with Alert SF after noticing that Patrick received an alert that I didn't. Their signup process was awful (bad programming and probably no user experience design), but after many tries I got it to work. Confirmed that the Automix setting for Apple HomePod devices is off because Patrick dislikes it. A Swappa listing I created recently expired without giving me the option to renew it, so today I rephotographed the item and relisted it. Shopped for power storage following an earthquake. In the afternoon I chatted with Sebastian about Recharge Medical work. Dinner at home with Patrick: crispy tostadas with ground beef, lettuce, salsa, and shredded cheese; hot water. We watched YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Late snack: three small spring rolls from frozen, 7.5-ounce ginger ale. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs.

Sat Sep 19, 2026

Breakfast at home: leftover casserole from yesterday, hot water. Midmorning I walked and rode Muni to The Museum of San Francisco at 608 Commercial Street aka 608 Emperor Norton Place to begin Epicenter San Francisco: A Tour of Downtown: The Tides of Fortune That Changed the World, a self-guided historical and architectural walking tour by the San Francisco Historical Society. The tour included docents at each location, usually dressed in 1800s attire or simply snazzy, and who were mostly good to excellent. Many of the stops included areas that are not normally open to the public. We very much enjoyed the 14 stops. A few of the stops included speakers employed by the building who I think were not docents but volunteered to provide their knowledge. We were disappointed that we could not enter the Transamerica Building. We had mixed feelings about the restaurant and bar decor inside The Bank at Amador. In the Merchant's Exchange we wondered if the giant columns in the back room were solid marble; they sure seemed like it. Along the way Paul needed to eat breakfast, so we stopped at the restaurant in the Omni Hotel (500 California Street). Paul had a full breakfast; I had only breakfast potatoes. At only one location—Patrick and Co. at 33 Sutter Street—were we unable to find a docent and left not long after arriving. We ended the walking tour with drinks seated at the Pied Piper bar. Paul had an avant garde ($22), and I had a Harding's Old Fashioned (aka Boothby) ($24), which I liked. We chatted with another architect Tawny about The Time Machine at Pier 70, Invisalign, residential vs commercial architecture, the rollercoaster of contracting, and more. On our way out Paul and I stumbled upon a Fra' Mani fine meats tasting outside of The Garden Court and shared a tasting. Paul and I walked and rode Muni to our respective homes. Later, dinner at home with Patrick: meatballs from frozen with egg noodles and marinara, hot water. Afterwards Patrick had a glass of port. We watched YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I joined after a few hours.

Sun Sep 20, 2026

Breakfast: instant basmati rice from frozen with leftover butter masala chicken, hot water. Finished making glass cleaning solution. Plant care. Removed dust from mailbox flap exteriors and the lock and handle of both the front gate and the side door to the garage. Removed water-dirt stains on the exterior stairwell steps with dish soap solution. Installed 3M Command Strips then mounted a HomePod mini in the kitchen after waiting the requisite one hour. Home care: general carpet cleaning with Resolve in the south bedroom. The HomePod mini bracket fell, so I wiped the speaker bracket side with alcohol, applied new strips to the bracket side (the side that failed), and waited one hour before mounting. Continued door jamb dent repair with wood putty: both front doors, east kitchen pocket door. Yesterday I noticed while distributing pieces of expired credit cards in various city trash cans that our cross-cut shredded doesn't cross-cut very well with plastic. Several of the pieces contained an entire number of the credit card or an entire name. So when shredding credit cards one needs to manually confirm that the important pieces are shredded enough. Yesterday I had saved these pieces when I encountered them, then today I manually cut these into smaller pieces awaiting distribution the next time I leave home. Vacuumed the upper level with the handheld vacuum. Skipped lunch because I wasn't hungry; breakfast was slightly larger than normal. Later, dinner at home with Patrick: ground beef quesadillas, hot water, red wine. Trash management. Swept leaves in front of the home. Afterwards we watched Stop! That! Train! on Netflix and butter microwave popcorn and other snacks. Afterwards we watched a little bit of YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I joined not long after.

Mon Sep 21, 2026

Breakfast: leftover Croissant Breakfast Casserole, side of sliced half kiwi, hot water. Home improvement all day. Lightly sanded earlier wood putty repairs at the far east and far west corners where the sliding glass doors met the jamb. Cleaned grime from the corners of the bottoms of the windows of the sliding glass doors. Vacuumed the south bedroom. Repaired a broken wooden hanger with wood glue. Lunch at home with Patrick: I had a tiny portion of leftover chicken masala with basmati rice, a tiny portion of leftover egg noodles and marinara, and a small slice of ciabatta spinach and ham pizza that Patrick prepared today. Patrick ate only the pizza. Hot water to drink. Removed a strange sticker from the hinge of the dining room window and almost entirely deep-cleaned the frame. Washed almost upper level windows: the sliding glass door windows and the dining room window, inside and out, then applied Invisible Glass Cleaner and Rain Repellant to the outside of the westmost and eastmost panes of the sliding glass door. After switching to AdGuard Home, I couldn't find a way to easily close my AdGuard DNS account on my own, so I left it in place with no servers enabled. Edited a glamour photo of Patrick's mom. Later, dinner at home with Patrick: stir-fried ramen noodles with tofu, red pepper, black sesame, and green onions; hot water. We watched YouTube then Jimmy O. Yang: Finally Home on Hulu. Patrick went to bed. Late snack: Laoban bbq pork bao bun. I continued reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs.

Tue Sep 22, 2026

Breakfast: leftover ciabatta pizza, hot water. Lunch at home with Patrick: leftover ramen noodle stir-fry, kiwi-strawberry smoothie. Neti pot. Image editing with Patrick: Mom's glamour photo. Lately the baseboard trim under the sliding glass doors had been coming loose or pulling away from the wall. Today I spent the rest of the afternoon removing it. It was mostly held in place with industrial glue, but the baseboard peeled away easily with just a small amount of force. However, in a few places the baseboard stuck and would not remove easily. I realized that in these places, all on the west half of the trim, nails were used. It took a lot of prying to release the baseboard from these areas. One was left, and it would not budge. It took me a while to realize that instead of a nail it was a screw. The front of the baseboard had a patchiness at this spot, and I dug into it with a tiny flathead screwdriver to reveal a phillips screw head. All of these fasteners were angled downward, since the bottom of the sliding glass doors was metal. I undid the screw, and finally the entire baseboard was released from the wall. The nails were still embedded, so I used a hammer on the pointy side as well as pliers, twisting and pulling, repeatedly to remove the nails. The screw was very long, so to save time I used the drill with a phillips head bit to remove it. I scraped caulk and old glue from the bottom of the sliding glass door. Vacuumed the work area. Walked to Cliff's Variety to see if they carried a replacement. They did not have what I needed, so I decided to try to repair what we have. Dinner at home with Patrick: grilled cheese with side salad, red wine. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. We watched Great Art Explained: Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez on YouTube, and I fell asleep. We drank decaf Nespressos. We watched Ted Lasso s4:e8 on Apple TV. Patrick snacked on roasted salted peanuts while we watched. Patrick went to bed. I processed more dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen again. Removed adhesive residue from the baseboard trim and from plastic cable raceway with Goo Gone. Finished reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. I enjoyed the story very much.

Wed Sep 23, 2026

Breakfast: breakfast burrito with one-egg with ground beef and mexican seasoning, grated mexican blend cheeses, green onions. Hot water to drink. Processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Neti pot. Recharge Medical web work: price change for DOT from $200 to $250. Continued the project to renew the baseboard trim: washed the surfaces to which the trim attaches, sanded the trim, removed grout from the top edge and sanded again, filled nail and screw holes with wood putty on both sides, cleaned the work area. Lunch: leftover ramen noodle stir-fry; medium salad with sliced heirloom tomatoes, sliced red bell pepper, sliced roasted almonds, toasted sesame dressing, pinch of salt, ground black pepper; cold water. Successfully received a package—the first time after the keypad locks were installed on the meter closet doors which also act as our way to receive packages. In the evening Patrick and I walked to The Academy for dinner. We shared sausage and mushroom flatbread and chicken bites with mustard dipping sauce and veggie sticks. Cocktails: negroni for Patrick, The Drake for me. Walked home. We watched YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher.

Thu Sep 24, 2026

Breakfast: red grapes, hot water. Met Felipe from Daly City Iron Works to see if they could repair bubbling and rusting metalwork. He arrived a few minutes after our scheduled appointment. After a few minutes he said that they cannot do any of the work we need. I apologized for wasting his time and let him go. Afterwards I chatted with neighbor Daniela about his visit since her unit was scheduled to have an estimate from him as well. Later for lunch Patrick and I walked to Cliff's Variety to purchase painting supplies for Patrick then continued to Morning Due, meeting Kerry and Mom Ryan along the way. Kerry and Mom shared a grilled chicken sandwich with fries, Patrick and I shared a fried chicken sandwich with fries and an iced chai. Almond oat milk for Mom, a beer for Kerry. We walked with them to the corner then said goodbye. Walked home, stopping at Oishii Matcha for an iced black sesame latte to share. I continued the project to renew the baseboard trim: sanded wood putty areas, cleaned the work area, painted the baseboard trim. Dinner at home with Patrick: pistachio cream fusilli bowls from frozen, water. I missed a few spots with the baseboard trim painting, so I painted again then cleaned the work area. Replaced the battery in a UPS and prepared to put the UPS back in service. We watched 47 minutes of Bird Box: Barcelona on Netflix with small glasses of port then all of Ryan Hamilton: Happy Face (2017) also on Netflix. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. Completed a lot of online paperwork: a home buyer class action settlement claim, two iPhone class action settlement claims. Our new Oupes Exodus 350 backup power supply arrived but the solar panel I bought with it did not. I had to email Oupes to find out the tracking number for the separate shipment. Why couldn't they have included that info in one of the many messages they sent after I placed my order? Late snack: 3 of Patrick's homemade croutons, one Laoban bbq pork bao bun, water.

Fri Sep 25, 2026

Breakfast at home with Patrick: Patrick prepared: pumpkin spice muffins; autumn yogurt parfait with pears, toasted pumpkin seeds and pecans, dried cranberries, and maple-cinnamon apple butter; hot Nespresso pumpkin spice cake coffee with milk. Cleaned a glass candle holder of old wax with Goof Off and a paper towel after Patrick had drained it using a pot of hot water. Patrick and I continued the sliding glass door baseboard trim renewal project. We applied Liquid Nails and pressed the baseboard trim into place. I had purchased finishing nails thinking that I could hammer them in, but they were useless because they did not penetrate even the trim. We went with Liquid Nails alone. I had only two small C clamps, and in the few other spots where it did not adhere well we used green FrogTape painter's tape and 20-pound dumbbells. We walked and rode Muni to lunch at RT Rotisserie Hayes Valley with JY and Adrian. We talked about architecture tours, improv classes, Mahjong classes, bridge classes, elder care, family, Patrick's childhood and family and mom. Afterwards they departed. Patrick and I walked to Loquat and purchased a few pastries to consume later. Walked and rode Muni home. Later Patrick and I walked to Copper to meet a subset of The Syndicate for drinks in the parklet: Jose, Tim C, John B, Emery, Timmy D, Scot B, JY, Adrian, Rayson, and someone else with Rayson whose name I don't recall. We shared crispy brussels sprouts, tater tots, fries. The sun was directly in the eyes of people facing west, so I held a menu to block it for whoever was across from me. Patrick and I walked to dinner at Takara Sushi: hot green tea, miso soup, red dragon roll, rock n roll, spider roll. $57.57 after 8.625% tax and before a $12 tip. Patrick and I walked home. We watched YouTube a short while. Patrick went to bed. I processed dirty dishes, cleaned the kitchen, and started the dishwasher.

Breakfast: plain yogurt with diced pear and Patrick's homemade granola, one of Patrick's pumpkin spice muffins, hot water. Decided to let the baseboard trim glue cure one more day. Sanded wood putty patches of dents in doorway jambs: both kitchen pocket doors, both entry doors, and doorways to the bedrooms in the lower level. Cleaned affected areas with dish soap solution. Vacuumed affected areas. Lunch: I prepared for myself Maruchan beef-flavored ramen noodles with diced tofu, chopped spinach from frozen, and sesame seeds. Water to drink. Touch-up-painted front doors with dark black-brown paint. Midafternoon snack: half of a babka bun, milk. Changed the air purifier prefilter. Walked with Patrick to errands: Cliff's Variety to drop off an expired UPS battery and other errands. Walked home. Repaired a pillow-and-large-linens vacuum bag with clear packing tape after hearing it hiss following vacuuming—seems successful enough for now. Installed our old Cyberpower CP825AVRLCD UPS with a new battery and placed it on the shelf above the network panel. Previously this device lived under Patrick's desk. Now adjacent to the network panel more network devices have backup power for longer than the small Shanqiu UPS that was powering only one of the routers. At the same time I reorganized the network panel a bit, moving some components outside of the panel. Vacuumed most of the south bedroom. Labelled a paint can with a paint card. Trash management. Later Patrick and I walked to dinner at Sausage Factory, meeting Brett and Robert there. We shared a bottle of sangiovese and a large arugula salad. Robert had manicotti, Brett had gluten-free penne with meatballs, Patrick and I shared chicken parm sub spaghetti for mashed potatoes. We had a great time chatting. Walked home, stopping at Castro Liquor and Wine for some snacks. Patrick and I watched Moonlighting s2:e6 Knowing Her on Hulu with Ben and Jerry's ice cream—something with toffee bar in it. Patrick went to bed. Recharge Medical work: email campaign edits. I joined Patrick in bed a few hours later.
