Breakfast: leftover ciabatta pizza, hot water. Lunch at home with Patrick: leftover ramen noodle stir-fry, kiwi-strawberry smoothie. Neti pot. Image editing with Patrick: Mom's glamour photo. Lately the baseboard trim under the sliding glass doors had been coming loose or pulling away from the wall. Today I spent the rest of the afternoon removing it. It was mostly held in place with industrial glue, but the baseboard peeled away easily with just a small amount of force. However, in a few places the baseboard stuck and would not remove easily. I realized that in these places, all on the west half of the trim, nails were used. It took a lot of prying to release the baseboard from these areas. One was left, and it would not budge. It took me a while to realize that instead of a nail it was a screw. The front of the baseboard had a patchiness at this spot, and I dug into it with a tiny flathead screwdriver to reveal a phillips screw head. All of these fasteners were angled downward, since the bottom of the sliding glass doors was metal. I undid the screw, and finally the entire baseboard was released from the wall. The nails were still embedded, so I used a hammer on the pointy side as well as pliers, twisting and pulling, repeatedly to remove the nails. The screw was very long, so to save time I used the drill with a phillips head bit to remove it. I scraped caulk and old glue from the bottom of the sliding glass door. Vacuumed the work area. Walked to Cliff's Variety to see if they carried a replacement. They did not have what I needed, so I decided to try to repair what we have. Dinner at home with Patrick: grilled cheese with side salad, red wine. I processed dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen. We watched Great Art Explained: Las Meninas by Diego Velázquez on YouTube, and I fell asleep. We drank decaf Nespressos. We watched Ted Lasso s4:e8 on Apple TV. Patrick snacked on roasted salted peanuts while we watched. Patrick went to bed. I processed more dirty dishes and cleaned the kitchen again. Removed adhesive residue from the baseboard trim and from plastic cable raceway with Goo Gone. Finished reading from paperback book Confluence by Alex Turner and Lucian Childs. I enjoyed the story very much.
