Service by Julian D was very good. Afterwards outside something strange was happening with Muni. Trains were backed up at the nearby terminal. We counted at least five trains. Rode UberX home. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, blueberries; water. Was ready to go to work at UCSF Parnassus when I got an unanticipated request from Eric to go to Mission Bay—no problem. I changed my outfit to something less casual. Rode Muni to UCSF Mission Bay. Along the way I stopped at an optometry center and ordered new eyeglasses. Gartner Lab web build edits. Siteimprove linkchecking and policy work. Calendar management. Followup with Jaime K about a question about identity and course materials. Helped with the faculty retreat in Robertson Auditorium on floor 2 of William J. Rutter Center. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. I realize today that I accidentally missed including toasted unsweetened coconut flakes in a lot of recent entries. Rode Muni to UCSF Mission Bay. Gartner Lab web build edits all day. Lunch with Deborah, Levi, and Eric at Gott's: Levi had a chicken shnitzel sandwich, Deborah had baja fish tacos, Eric had a salad of some kind, I had the chicken kale caesar salad. Walked and rode Muni bus 22 to Woods Cerveceria, meeting Patrick along the way, and meeting his writer friends Lori O and Anne R there. We sampled various flavors of El Porteño empanadas (one beef, one swiss chard, and one mushroom) and enjoyed wine and beer, chatting for a few hours. We departed, and Patrick and I walked to Tanglad for dinner: Patrick had roasted five-spice chicken and imperial rolls, I had seafood combo pho no calamari. Water to drink. Ran in place to various YouTube videos. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. Worked from home. Siteimprove linkchecking and policy work. First small lunch: hickory-smoked cheddar on rosemary crackers, leftover pepperoni slice, water. CPCS meeting: pills vs. candy migration. Met briefly with Erika C to change a special table to a multicolumn list. Second small lunch: leftover braised kale and white bean soup, water. I converted two other similar tables. Created suggested 4-up image comps for Levi and Deborah. Small snack while waiting for dinner: one navel orange. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from CreoLa via Caviar: buttermilk-brined fried chicken (breast, add one wing, side 1: green beans with garlic, side 2: hoppin john), shrimp po'boy (side: red beans and rice, sauce on the side), 3 beignets with salted caramel sauce (add chocolate sauce), 1 order of corn bread. We enjoyed all food and drink. Nothing was too spicy for me. In fact, nothing tasted spicy at all. The corn bread was a disappointingly small portion; we received essentially two very, very mini muffins for $1.75 which did not seem worth it to us. The po-boy sauce was not too spicy for me. We had ordered it on the side just in case, but for future orders we would be fine ordering it on the sandwich. Patrick noted that the bread is different than we have had a CreoLa in the past, and it is now closer to a true New Orleans po'boy bread. The fried chicken is perfect. Patrick noted that he likes the coating better than Brenda's which has a very thick coating. Patrick washed dishes. Afterwards we finished watching Just For Laughs: New Faces of Comedy Vol. 2 via Just For Laughs on YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I joined not too long after.

Dinner at home with Patrick: wild mushroom pasta with almonds and capers, water, white wine. Afterwards we watched various YouTube videos and about half of Natasha Leggero: Live at Bimbo’s via Comedy Central Stand-Up also on YouTube. Patrick went to bed. I washed dishes.

Ran in place while rewatching John Mulaney: New In Town (2012) on Netflix instant watch. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, half diced banana; water. Cleaned the bathroom. Vacuumed. Midmorning small meal: leftover green beans with garlic, water. Lunch at home with Patrick: leftover char siu tofu gua bao with cucumbers and carrots, water. Cut my hair (it's been almost a month since my last one), showered. Nap. Muni didn't have a bus ready in time for us to arrive, so we rode UberX with Patrick to 24th and Folsom then walked to Urban Putt where we met Chris G and Andy T. It was crowded when we arrived. We used a locker to store the gifts we brought them then were told we were 9th on the waitlist to golf. We got beers upstairs then after a while ordered chicken and waffles with four skewers instead of the default three. Immediately after ordering we received a text message saying they were ready for us to golf. We got a round of water and waited to consume the food order before returning downstairs to golf. It was still crowded when we arrived downstairs. Chris, Andy, and Patrick had cocktails. Behind us in line were about four or five teens who didn't follow the hole order and weren't really playing the game properly, which I found annoying, but we enjoyed ourselves nonetheless. Chris won with 32 strokes. Andy was next with 35, then Patrick with 37, and I got 42. My biggest mistakes were: on Quake! (#1) I repeatedly hit the sides of the building; I should have just gone around it. On Video Vision (#6) hitting too hard causes the ball to hit the top of the horizontal slot instead of entering it; hit lightly even if it takes more strokes. On Golfland at the Beach (#10) my ball kept hitting something and bounced backwards. It wasn't clear what was doing this. After multiple tries it finally went in. (Patrick told me later that you need to get the ball in a narrower passage within the mouth.) The hardest hole for everyone was Video Vision (#4). The easiest hole for everyone was Quack!; we all got that in one stroke. Afterwards we returned upstairs for dinner. We shared: popcorn shrimp with fried lemon and spicy remoulade (which was not too spicy for me), Taylor-made sliders (2-oz beef burger patties, special sauce, American cheese, caramelized onions, house made pickles, brioche bun, special request: four instead of the default three sliders), caesar salad (house-made caesar dressing, croutons and shaved parmesan), the par five pizza (barbecue chicken with caramelized onion, bacon, three-cheese blend, scallions, white sauce). They gave us a ride home. I ran inside to retrieve and return food storage containers that we had borrowed from them the last time we met. A fine evening. To bed early.
Sun Feb 12, 2023
Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. Tired this morning due to some insomnia problems. Midmorning Patrick made apple fritters using one apple, and we ate it—delicious. I napped. We ate leftover pizza from last night. I napped. Patrick joined after a while. I arose and did web work for Recharge Medical for Drew: policies refresh, update new patient forms. Swept the outside corridor to prevent a drain from clogging during rainstorms. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover char siu tofu gua bao with sliced cucumber; side Whole Foods asian-inspired salad; water. After dinner I made cocktails: whiskey sidecars. Patrick made Mrs. Fields's blue-ribbon chocolate chip cookies. Updated the Recharge Medical website in development with the same changes as earlier today. Patrick and I watched various YouTube videos. To bed early.
Mon Feb 13, 2023
Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Responded to two requests from Rebecca D: a small page edit for a page that we control, and how to resolve a CMM request. Followup with faculty members about MAEd vs MA vs MEd. Late lunch from Panda Express: bowl with chow mein and beef with broccoli. My fortune: Your reward is the walk, not the destination. Water from my water bottle. Notified Pam S about a display name change for her office's email account. HTML email build for an Equity and Inclusion event. Rode Muni home. I began reading Chinatown Pretty via Hoopla via SFPL. I washed dishes while listening to World History with Mr. Lutz, a podcast to which I recently began listening.
Tue Feb 14, 2023
Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. Vacation day, but I'm meeting the team for a goodbye lunch for Deborah who is leaving us for an internal comms job at SFDPH/ZSFG. Rode Muni to UCSF Mission Bay. At Wooly Pig a pro video crew was set up for something. Lunch with Levi and Deborah at Mission Rock Resort; Eric couldn't come due to an unexpected, new meeting for Deborah and timing of one of Eric's meetings. It was particularly cold today. Deborah had fish and chips and a soda, Levi and I each had a bay shrimp salad and water. We talked about the (in)accuracy of weather forecasts, San Francisco's housing issues, Valentine's Day plans, the cost of an evening out, John Mulaney, and, of course, Deborah's new position. Rode Muni home. Relaxed. Rode UberX with Patrick to dinner at 54 Mint. San Valentino: Martedi, 14 Febbraio 2023: il Menu (with wine pairings in parentheses and the restaurant's stylized mixed casing, with some of the accents not transcribed properly): ASSAGGiO (for everyone): SUPPLI: black truffle risotto croquette, molten smoked mozzarella (N.V. Franciacorta Brut, Le Marchesine). ANTiPASTi (choice of one of these three): SPINACi: baby spinach, pickled hedgehog mushrooms, anjou pears toasted farro, blue cheese, aged balsamic (2020 Schiava, St. Magdalener). CAPESANTE: scallops carpaccio, sicilian olives, horseradish satsuma oranges, sesame vinaigrette, agrumato oil (2021 Aleatico "Alea Rosa" Andrea Occhipinti). SALSICCiA: grilled house lamb sausage: saffron cous cous, raisins, pine nuts, yogurt (2018 Rosso di Montefalco, Antonelli). SECONDi (choice of one of these three): TORTELLi: (cow-based) ricotta shiitake and leeks filled pasta, sautéed black trumpet mushroom (2016 Rosso di Montalcino, Tiezzi). SPiGOLA: seared local white sea bass filet, sea urchin salsa verde, beluga lentils, citrus and radish salad (2020 Grillo "Sciare di Est" Antichi Vinai). MANZO: roasted filet mignon, chocolate bordelaise, squash polenta, mustard greens, mascarpone and hazelnuts (2017 Barolo, Villa Balestra). DOLCi (choice of one of these two): PANNACOTTA: lavender pannacotta, olio nuovo: (NV Malvasia "Cantina E Laboratorio" Meigamma). CiOCCOLATO: spiced dark chocolate mousse tart (NV Vermouth Chinato, Mancino). Patrick's choices: capesante, spigola, cioccolato. My choices: spinaci, tortelli, pannacotta. We both included the wine pairing. All food and drink was excellent. Like on Christmas Eve, there were noticeable delays between courses, but unlike on Christmas Eve this began at the very start of our meal, but like on Christmas Eve we were in a festive mood and did not mind even if we noticed it. I think part of why this happens is that upon arrival we are very genuinely made to feel welcome and loved. My spinach salad was an unusually large portion for a four-course meal, so I simply ate a small amount and requested the rest to go. On our way out our server from Christmas Eve joyfully recognized us from that night and another host also remembered us and said "Welcome back" or something similar. These meals are unquestionably a splurge, but we feel nothing but love from everyone on the staff, and that is part of what makes it so special. At the end of the meal we received a laignappe for the special menu: a single red rose—be careful of the thorns. We rode UberX home and pretty quickly went to bed.
Wed Feb 15, 2023
Walked and ran in place to various YouTube videos. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, raisins; water. Vacation day. Recharge Medical work for Drew: new USCIS flyer. In the morning a king cake arrived from New Orleans earlier than expected. Lunch: leftover spinach salad from last night. In the afternoon, Patrick and Sam returned with groceries, then we all visited Kerry and Mom Ryan and we brought along a Sucré king cake, which was topped with glitter in the Mardi Gras colors of purple, green, and yellow. Kerry made a pot of coffee, which we drank with milk and a Starbucks creamer. Glitter seemed to have gotten everywhere: faces, hands, clothes, tabletops. We chatted a while then departed. Sam drove us home. Later, still full from the king cake, we dined late: Whole Foods deli pizza, water. We watched various YouTube videos. Patrick went to bed. I washed dishes then continued reading Brené Brown's Atlas of the Heart. I'm now about a third of the way done. So far it's a great read, and like all her work it's full of wisdom and insight. I don't think it was intended as a reference book—there's no index and the emotions aren't alphabetized—but I could picture people attempting to use it that way, to get better understandings of feelings and emotions when or shortly after they occur.
Thu Feb 16, 2023

Ran in place to various YouTube videos. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, roasted and unsalted slivered or sliced almonds, cacao nibs, toasted unsweetened coconut flakes, blueberries; water. Vacation day. Late morning Patrick and I walked to Irving Street in the Upper Middle Sunset to run an errand then stopped at Henry's House of Coffee for a bacon, egg, and cheese on everything bagel sandwich, which we shared. Patrick also got a chocolate milk. Returned home. We're still finding king cake glitter in various places: on towels, rugs, floors. Nap. Rode Muni to dinner at Boulevard with Patrick. St. Geron sparkling water, Boulevardier cocktail for Patrick, Gran' Market cocktail for me, two three-course prix fixe meals, glass of Brunello for Patrick, glass of small V pinot noir for me. We started with an off-menu first bite which was larger than an amuse bouche: homemade herbed potato chips, cheesy sticks, vegetables, and hummus dip. Appetizers: Spanish octopus (cauliflower fritters, lime crema, pickled chayote and kohlrabi, peanut and currant salsa macha) for Patrick, dungeness crab salad (green goddess dressing, rosa radicchio, heart of puntarelle, pink and valentine pomelo, salsify) for me. Mains: Angus beef filet (medium rare, duchess yukon potato, asparagus, leek soubise, sauce bernaise and roasted jus) for Patrick, Brent Wolfe quail (wild rice, bacon and leeks, wild pecans and sunflower seeds, buttered swedes and cherry saba) for me. Desserts: strawberries 'romanoff' roulade (strawberry sherbet, blood orange rhubarb sauce and chantilly) for Patrick, molten chocolate cake (with salted caramel ice cream, almond cocoa nib brittle and dark chocolate sorbet) for me. We finished with an off-menu small bowl of caramel corn with chocolate and one jelly candy for each of us. All food and drink was delicious. My crab salad was larger than expected. Patrick's filet and my quail were perfect. My molten chocolate cake was not quite molten in the middle, but I didn't care to mention it, and it was still delicious. Service by Gina was excellent. We loved sitting at table 19 because it was directly adjacent to the mains pickup station, so we got to see lots of dishes and watch the team work quite flawlessly. The bar seating also enables you to closely watch the kitchen while they work. This was the first time dining a full meal for both of us. I think I had come here once before briefly with Tina a very long time ago but we sat only in the bar and had drinks and perhaps a small bite of something. Rode UberX home.

Liter of pineapple mimosas for the table. Two orders of two beignets and coffee. Drew and Patrick took the coffees and we shared the beignets. Cajun jambalaya entree (blackened chicken breast andouille sausage, tasso ham, jasmine rice) for Phil. Wild mushroom scramble (Laura Chenel goat cheese, bayou potatoes, salad) for Drew. Buttermilk-brined fried chicken (leg and thigh, collard greens, cream cheese grits) for Tai. Patrick and I shared crab benedicts (two poached eggs on top garlic toast topped with crab hollandaise, with side of CreoLa salad and bayou potatoes) and a side of cream cheese grits. All food and drink were delicious. Service was good except near the end when the restaurant was full and there seemed to be only one server and one busperson and there was a very long delay even after I got up and walked to the kitchen area to request our check. Afterwards Phil, Drew, and Tai left to visit a showing of an interesting property at 2576-2578 Folsom Street (19 bedrooms in two units). Patrick and I walked Haight Street then Divisadero before stopping for hot drinks and a chocolate donut at Beluna Cafe which we both liked and which had hot water in the bathroom. We shopped briefly at Falletti Foods but bought nothing, then rode UberX Comfort home. Nap for me. Dinner at home with Patrick: same dinner as last night (but no dessert). Patrick washed dishes. We watched various YouTube videos including Moonlighting s3:e4 (The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice). Patrick went to bed. I continued iPad troubleshooting, this time getting error 75 after attempting an update on the MacBook Pro where I originally encountered the problem and after switching to a different USB-C to USB-C cable plugged into a different port, just to be extra cautious. The wipe and restore processes were successful. I lost one month of activity, but it was only new app downloads, and I was able to remember what I had downloaded and redownload them by looking at my purchase history. Continued reading from Brené Brown's Atlas of the Heart. Late tonight we learned that today was the coldest February 25 in San Francisco in over 100 years, and we sure felt it when we were walking outside after brunch. I found that our Jellyfin server installation hung again, and restarting did not fix it, so I decided to abandon it. Troubleshot problems with external hard drives, deciding to reformat both drives as HFS+ rather than APFS, which I mistakenly thought would be okay or good for these drives but they are really good only for SSD drives.
