Watched an episode of Archer Vice on Netflix instant watch with Patrick. Lately several of my Contigo water bottles have been looking moldyish at the opening where water emerges, and my efforts to clean them have failed I think due to the kind of material used in those parts of the bottle. Today I purchased a 24-ounce Thermos Intak bottle to replace it and an OXO Good Grips bottle cleaning set to add to our cleaning arsenal. Caught up on journaling. Shopped Whole Foods online via Patrick-shared Instacart. Late meal: leftover jambalaya. Continued playing The Room on my iPad.

Birdman: Or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) on Netflix DVD with Patrick. I loved this film not simply because the long takes and magical camerawork were impressive but also because they were done with exceptional grace and beauty. I felt as though I were floating through the story as though levitating. The layers of complexity were mind-boggling in a happy, pleasant way (different than the mind-bogglingness offered by, say, Inception).

Sat Jun 6, 2015

Slept in. Bought supplies at Sloat Garden Center with Patrick: oxalis burgundy and oxalis coppertone for the living room window box, a small indoor plant and pot for Patrick. Late brunch at Outerlands. We discovered that 2:00 to 2:15 pm was the perfect time to eat there. We waited only about 12 minutes. Chicken and biscuits, eggs in jail, mimosa for Patrick, hot black tea for me. All delicious. Service by Lindsey P. (#1029) was mostly inattentive but good when it arrived. We weren't in a rush so it didn't bother us. To go: coffee cake. $44.11 before a $7 tip. Home. Gardening: planted impatiens and oxalis burgundy and oxalis coppertone in planters, weeded, fertilized, sprayed with hydrogen peroxide solution. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover chinese food. Sun Jun 7, 2015

Breakfast at home: one egg, one vegan sausage, one hash brown, two slices of toast with butter. Patrick had a hash brown. I spent most of today preparing for Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite installs on our three computers. That included, for me, upgrading MAMP Pro from version 2 to 3. I encountered a problem with that in which following installation Apache failed to launch and the log file would be empty. Nothing on the web helped me resolve this. (My search history: "mamp pro 3 starting apache failed", "_envvars envvars_", "_envvars envvars_ mamp", "_envvars envvars_ mamp 10.9", "mamp apache log is empty", "blank log file site:www.mamp.info", "blank logfile site:www.mamp.info", "mamp pro permissions", "mamp pro 3 starting apache failed os 10.9", "mamp pro no log file", "mamp pro no log file mavericks", "mamp pro mavericks", "mamp pro 3.x mavericks", "mamp pro", "failed setting the front application mamp pro site:forum.mamp.info", "failed setting the front application mamp pro", "failed setting the front application mamp pro", ["failed setting the front application" mamp pro], "site:frankfarm.org mamp", "mamp pro tried to be brought forward", "mamp pro tried to be brought forward site:forum.mamp.info", "uninstall mamp pro". Restarting didn't fix it. Reinstalling didn't fix it. Clean reinstalling didn't fix it. Changing envvars_ to _envvars didn't fix it. Apache did start under MAMP but not MAMP Pro. I inadvertently removed several entries from my hosts list in MAMP Pro 3 and after that everything worked fine. Time required to upgrade from MAMP Pro 2 to MAMP Pro 3 = about 2 hours. Lunch: leftovers. Dinner at home with Patrick: homemade cream of mushroom soup, ciabatta, oil and balsamic vinegar. Finished watching Steel Magnolias (1989) on Netflix instant watch with Patrick. Yosemite installation successful on Patrick's iMac. Prep for Yosemite install on my iMac.

Mon Jun 8, 2015

Made live various collected changes for the Recharge Spa website for Drew and Phil. Restored the lamp above the cutting board; it had fallen over the weekend due to weak adhesive on the velcro used to hold it in place. Prep for Yosemite install on my iMac.

Tue Jun 9, 2015

No serious problems with the Yosemite install on my iMac. Late snack: bean and cheese burrito from frozen.

Wed Jun 10, 2015

Liked the OCPD Facebook page from the UCSF SOP account for Lisa. Susie drove me and her to UCSF Mission Bay for a kickoff meeting with Mike H and Tet M. Afterwards we took photos from the top of the parking garage before returning to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sent an encryption invitation to P3s. No lunch today. Left work late, missed the shuttle by one or two minutes. Rode UberX home: about $14. Dinner at home with Patrick: pepperoni pizza from frozen with additional fresh toppings, water.

Thu Jun 11, 2015

In OS 10.10 Yosemite at home, I disabled Spotlight Suggestions because when I typed "iterm" it would frequently suggest as the first item Alice Dev Team's Go2Shell from the App Store instead of George Nachman's iTerm2 which was already installed on my computer. Aggravatingly, it was not consistent in this behavior. Sometimes iTerm2 was the first item, but most times it was second. I can't be productive if I sometimes have to press the down arrow before Enter when I want to launch iTerm. I thought, no problem, I'll just reorder Mac App Store to be lower than Applications in Spotlight preferences, but there was no Mac App Store category to reorder. There was a Spotlight Suggestions category, but—grrr!—it was already in position #2 under Applications in position #1 even though in reality it was putting the suggestion before an application on my computer. Since I now did not trust Spotlight Suggestions at all, I unchecked "Allow Spotlight Suggestions in Spotlight and Look up," and that resolved the problem. The other spotlight suggestions would have been welcome, but this feature isn't working correctly for me, and I can't trust it to do so enough to keep it on. I have mentally added Spotlight Suggestions to my list of Apple technologies I do not trust. On the other hand, the batch rename feature in Yosemite is a pleasant surprise. I haven't tried it yet, but it's nice to know it's there. Yesterday evening I installed a Google Chrome extension called Word Replacer so that I could replace [certain annoying strings now commonly found in news headlines] with null strings (actually, space characters, since null strings did not work) so that I don't have to look at them anymore. My list so far: everything you need to know about, what comes next, who comes next, here's what, what to expect from, here’s what, here’s why, here’s where, here’s who, everyone should know, you may not know. Additionally, I opened all my browsers and in AdBlock Plus preferences I unchecked "Allow some non-intrusive advertising." Added the Google Chrome extension called BehindTheOverlay. It's a lot of work to remain sane in today's world. Breakfast at home: half order of granola with unsweetened soy milk. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Lots of encryption followup with Reba all day. Date format styling meeting was rescheduled. Small web edit for Cindy: employers page. Thank you lunch with the (mostly) 218 staff in room 416: pizza and salad from Amici's. Sent Cindy and Susie my performance evaluation self-appraisal. Prepared P3 encryption signups list handoff to Reba. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: deli thai noodles, heated, water. Upon inspecting the garden I found that one of our sage plants was almost entirely buried. Also, a day or two ago our parsley plant was similarly disturbed; a mound of dirt had mysteriously appeared. We don't know what is causing these problems. We suspect an animal but we don't know what kind or what motive it might have. I carefully unburied the sage and replanted it. The parsley plant has been completely destroyed. Added the following to Word Replacer in Chrome: you need to know, everyone must know, everyone needs to know. House chores. Late snack: ramen with vegetables.

Dinner at home with Patrick: falafel, couscous, side salad with ranch dressing, limoncello. Watched various videos on YouTube with Patrick.

Sat Jun 13, 2015

Slept in. Breakfast at home: half order of granola with unsweetened soy milk. Gardening: I determined yesterday with the help of some SFGate web pages that our garden has a gopher that had been eating roots of some of our herb plants. Today I moved one damaged sage plant to small pots to recover, replanted the cilantro in three small groups, then sprinkled more gopher/mole repellant then watered. Troubleshot Patrick's computer's connection to mine. It seemed to work when I opened the folder I needed it to see; CrashPlan local began synchronizing. Not touching it for now to see if CrashPlan local will back up successfully again. Cut my hair, showered. Checked on the garden. One cilantro stem had become unseated from the dirt due to the wind, so I found a metal rod to insert next to it and attach it with a twist tie. Errand at ODSY Workshop: dropped off a shoe to be stretched because it was too tight. Midafternoon snack: leftover homemade cream of mushroom soup. Rode Muni to the Castro. Dinner at Pesce Seafood Bar (2223 Market Street) with Patrick: san pellegrino, happy hour red wine, butter lettuce salad, diver scallops, wild boar pappardelle, fried artichokes. Dessert: panna gelato and tiramisu; espresso for Patrick. $106.31 before a $20 tip. Compleat Female Stage Beauty at New Conservatory Theatre Centre with Patrick. Troubleshot problems with Apple Reminders in iOS 8: after I mark a reminder as completed the white-on-red notification number decrements or disappears but then a few seconds later it returns. Force-quitting the app and remarking the item as completed resolves the problem. In iCloud settings on my phone I turned off Reminders, waited a few seconds, then turned it on again. Then I had no reminders, and the app displayed New List with a plus sign and nothing else and touching the plus sign did nothing. I cold restarted my phone and that not only resolved the problem of Reminders doing nothing but also restored my reminders. Much frustration.

Sun Jun 14, 2015

Slept in. Breakfast at home: half order of granola with unsweetened soy milk. More CrashPlan computer-to-computer connection troubleshooting and other maintenance for Patrick's computer. Lunch: leftover couscous salad, water. Place and order with Bi Rite Grocery via instacart for various ice creams and wine. They delivered in under one hour—I am amazed. First order delivery was free. (A referral link is on my Google Plus page.) Walked to get some exercise. Bought frozen dumplings at the Kingdom of Dumpling shop now at 2048 Taraval instead of on Noriega. Dinner at home with Patrick: dumplings: egg and chive, pork and shrimp with chive, chicken and napa, various dipping sauces, red wine. Tried watching PBS's The Great British Baking Show as recommended by (I think) Susie but it wasn't available online. Since we have no television there's no way we can watch it. Too bad for them. Instead we watched season 1 episode 2 of Chef's Table on Netflix instant watch and ate popcorn sprinkled with Cabot Cheddar Shake, a powdered cheese that surprisingly has decently good ingredients. Afterwards I spilled a glass of red wine, and Patrick and I cleaned it together: two parts hydrogen peroxide with one part dishwashing soap, according to Google. That seemed to work pretty well.

Pre-brunch at home: one-egg tomato omelette with grated cheese. Began work to resolve MySQL problems encountered following my recent upgrade to MAMP Pro 3.2.1. Brunch at ChouChou with Patrick, Danny, Romy, Phil, Drew, Markus, Akkachai, Chris O. For all of us this was our first time meeting Akkachai and Chris O. Phil had a lamb crepe. Drew had a salmon crepe. I had beef bourguignon. Patrick had a shrimp crepe. Chris O had a hamburger with swiss, fries. Markus had a salmon crepe and the ravioli. Akkachai had the ravioli. Danny had a salmon crepe. Romy had a lamb crepe. Dishes came out haltingly instead of all at once, and a waitress dropped soiled silverware on Markus' back but the only complaint from any of us was from Markus: the crepe wasn't French enough. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their food. No dessert. Afterwards, Markus, Akkachai, Danny, and I visited Grand View Park, 16th Avenue Tiled Steps, and Twisted Donuts and Coffee. Checked on the garden. Completed MySQL problem resolution by manually rebuilding databases and users on local. Upgraded Drupal 6 for Patrick's website at the same time: core and cck. Then we attended Matt Alber at Swedish American Hall with special guest Armistead Maupin. Bryce Alber opened the show. His music is moody and ethereal, perfect, I think, for a modern, gritty, noirish film soundtrack. Mr. Maupin read from his forthcoming memoirs, telling an amusing story of an encounter in the park. Patrick and I Rode Lyft from the Castro to home: $8.94 after a $1 tip and a $5 credit.
