Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, sliced and toasted almonds, diced half banana, blueberries; side of plain nonfat yogurt; hot water. For lunch, Patrick and I walked toward the beach, wanting to eat at either Galinette or Underdogs Too. Galinette was closed for a private party. Underdogs Too was extremely busy. We walked along the Great Highway to Noriega then ate at La Playa Taqueria. Patrick had a chicken burrito. I had two mahi-mahi tacos. My tacos included a mango salsa which was spicy even though the menu did not say it was. I ate it anyway. Horchata for Patrick, lemonade for me. We walked and rode Muni home. Later I napped. Dinner at home with Patrick: black-eye peas with brown rice, hot water. I washed some dishes. We watched What If…? s3:e7 on Disney+ then Big Mouth s1:e3 on Netflix. Patrick went to bed. This time, we arrived just after 5:00 p.m. opening and it was empty; we were the only customers. The food and drink were delicious, and service by Anna was very good. $50 after tax and before tip. Walked home. We watched What If…? s3:e8 (season finale) then Skeleton Crew s1:e6, both on Disney+. Patrick went to bed. I joined a while later.

Sun Jan 5, 2025
Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, sliced and toasted almonds, diced half banana; side of greek yogurt; hot water. I tested some new personal heat equipment. Midmorning Patrick and I walked to Sunset Mercantile Farmers Market. I wanted to try a smash burger, but the line for Maillards seemed a very long wait. Instead we shared two potstickers from Xiao Xiao Buns ($6) and sweet tofu udon from Kunugi Noodle ($8). Later we walked to Andytown where Patrick got a latte, then Walgreens for toilet paper. Walked home. Patrick and I chatted with our landlord a while. Patrick napped. I determined that the new personal heat equipment did not work for my needs and prepared them for return. I joined the nap. Later I awoke to Patrick preparing dinner: cashew chicken with steamed rice, hot water. Afterwards we finished watching Michelle Buteau: A Buteau-ful Mind at Radio City Music Hall then watched Big Mouth s1:e4, both on Netflix. Patrick went to bed. I performed updates and backups for home devices. Realized today that we had to stop using Netputing's HandyPrint because it has no longer supported for some time now. We used it so infrequently I'm not sure if I'll try to find a replacement. Edited one photo from our Spain trip using auto-align and auto-blend features in Photoshop. Began backpopulating journal entries for the trip.

Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Siteimprove linkchecking, spellchecking, and policy work. Granted access to a Qualtrics survey for Joel and Edgar. Chatted with Suzan. I brought leftover cashew chicken. Rotated copyright years on html email templates. Team meeting with Katherine and Suzan. Katherine announced that a return to work policy will soon be implemented. So far it seems like managers will be required to be in the office five days a week and non-managers in the office either three or four days a week. More details are forthcoming. We played with Genmoji on my iPhone 16 Pro and found it difficult to get the kinds of results we needed. Genmoji is a bit hard to use in that whenever people in an image are implied it wants you to specify more about what the person should look like, and this happens even if you request no people in your image. Stock photo is probably still easier to work with if images of what you seek exist. Lots of followup with email newsletter registration, which I learned today from IT that it is no longer required. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: shrimp and avocado salad, hot water. Chatted on SMS with Chris then later Jen. Chatted on SMS with Tina while Patrick talked on the phone with Brother Tony. I washed dishes. We watched Big Mouth s1:e5 on Netflix then one SNL YouTube video (John Mulaney as Superman). Patrick went to bed. Late snacks: a few teaspoonfuls of greek yogurt, celery sticks with peanut butter, tortilla chips.

Undid preparations for listserv moderation that Julia S initiated but which we never completed. Lots of listserv management, including creating a new list to manually maintain temp employees. Lots of calendar management to resolve (corrupted?) recurring items that failed to delete properly. I discovered on our IT website odd recommendations for Outlook and Exchange, such as you should never create recurring items that last longer than six months; you should never accept, decline or modify appointments, or invite others to appointments from your mobile device; never change a series and instead cancel the series and create a new one; never change an instance of a series and instead cancel just that instance and create a new one. Midafternoon snacks: rice crackers, one sumo orange. It took me the whole afternoon to resolve all the problems and then set up work schedule and holidays and vacations for 2025. Dinner at home with Patrick: Martha Stewart's tortellini soup with peas and spinach, hot water. We watched Skeleton Crew s1:e7 on Disney+ then Torching 2024: A Roast of the Year on Netflix. Thu Jan 9, 2025
Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, sliced and toasted almonds, diced half banana; side of greek yogurt; hot water. Walked and rode Muni to a doctor appointment in Mission Bay. The bus this morning was five minutes early but I noticed it in time and ran to catch it. I asked the driver if the schedule had changed or if he was early, and he said he was right on time, but I think he was not correct and later confirmed it by looking up the schedule. On the Muni train, the driver stopped the train and exited the driver's compartment to check something in the rear car. He was gone about a minute and then returned. The entire delay was about two minutes—no explanation. UCSF shuttle from Mission Bay to Parnassus. Did a bit of work and chatted with Katherine about some work issues. We had a 5:15 p.m. reservation but did not need it; there was only one other table taken. We each got hot green tea and the broken rice (cơm tấm) combo plate. The service was friendly and mostly attentive. After ordering there was a longer-than-expected wait until the food arrived—perhaps 25 or 30 minutes?—but it was worth it. These plates are huge and very filling. The plate included grilled pork chop, grilled boneless chicken, shredded pork skin, daikon salad, broken rice, soft fried egg patty, lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced cucumber, nước mắm chấm not spicy. The dish was prepared carefully. All the vegetables appeared to have been sliced fresh. The egg sat perfectly atop the rice and was runny when broken. The entire plate picture-perfect upon arrival. A small bowl of broth filled with sliced green onions and chopped cilantro accompanied. All the flavors were perfect, and the salt levels were also just right. Afterwards we attended Drink and Draw at The Academy: order drinks and draw a nude male model. We enjoyed ourselves. Walked and rode Muni home. As our train arrived, the sign overhead said DO NOT BOARD, TRAIN DOES NOT STOP or something like that, but the train indeed stop and let us board. Patrick went to bed. I had a late snack: steak fries with ketchup, water.
Fri Jan 10, 2025
This morning just after waking I was flushing the toilet and I felt some movement I don't usually feel and heard rumbling sounds I don't usually hear. I thought: earthquake? but did not think anything more until a few seconds later when Patrick told me there was an earthquake. It was small, and we went on our day. Left home late, so I did not eat at home. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Breakfast at Moffitt Cafe: scrambled eggs, potatoes, link sausage, and wheat toast with butter; water. Facilities men arrived to remove a broken chair and an unused whiteboard. Reported and followed up with slow page loading on our websites. Eric G responded that our sites are under attack by bots. Mon Jan 13, 2025
Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Breakfast at Moffitt Cafe: breakfast burrito (I chose pork sausage, bell peppers, and tomato) from the grill, decaf coffee with half and half. I reheated my coffee in a microwave because it wasn't hot enough for me. The burrito leaked a lot of liquid and was very messy to eat, but it was tasty and very filling.
