Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, sliced and toasted almonds, diced half banana; side of greek yogurt; hot water. Walked and rode Muni to a doctor appointment in Mission Bay. The bus this morning was five minutes early but I noticed it in time and ran to catch it. I asked the driver if the schedule had changed or if he was early, and he said he was right on time, but I think he was not correct and later confirmed it by looking up the schedule. On the Muni train, the driver stopped the train and exited the driver's compartment to check something in the rear car. He was gone about a minute and then returned. The entire delay was about two minutes—no explanation. UCSF shuttle from Mission Bay to Parnassus. Did a bit of work and chatted with Katherine about some work issues. Picked up my roller bag that I had left at work last night. Walked and rode Muni home. Lunch at home: leftover tortellini soup with peas and spinach, hot water. Disabled accounts inactive for six months in ResourceSpace. Created a ResourceSpace account for Frances P. Followup with a facilities problem report: lots of bird poop on sidewalk at Millberry Union bus stop. Followup on performance of The Dose newsletter. Removed an old teaching awards slide from the MSB9 display. Mailing list maintenance: removed email addresses which returned errors saying they did not exist. After work, Patrick and I walked and rode Muni to the Castro. We arrived earlier than expected, so we walked in the neighborhood a while. Dinner at Bee's Vietnamese Street Food. We had a 5:15 p.m. reservation but did not need it; there was only one other table taken. We each got hot green tea and the broken rice (cơm tấm) combo plate. The service was friendly and mostly attentive. After ordering there was a longer-than-expected wait until the food arrived—perhaps 25 or 30 minutes?—but it was worth it. These plates are huge and very filling. The plate included grilled pork chop, grilled boneless chicken, shredded pork skin, daikon salad, broken rice, soft fried egg patty, lettuce, sliced tomato, sliced cucumber, nước mắm chấm not spicy. The dish was prepared carefully. All the vegetables appeared to have been sliced fresh. The egg sat perfectly atop the rice and was runny when broken. The entire plate picture-perfect upon arrival. A small bowl of broth filled with sliced green onions and chopped cilantro accompanied. All the flavors were perfect, and the salt levels were also just right. Afterwards we attended Drink and Draw at The Academy: order drinks and draw a nude male model. We enjoyed ourselves. Walked and rode Muni home. As our train arrived, the sign overhead said DO NOT BOARD, TRAIN DOES NOT STOP or something like that, but the train indeed stop and let us board. Patrick went to bed. I had a late snack: steak fries with ketchup, water.
