Breakfast at home: granola, yogurt, and fresh raspberries; one apple; one pint of hot water. Washed dishes. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Forwarded an inquiry to the Kidney Project team. Sprint standup. Siteimprove linkchecking. More layout data gathering. Followup with Babbitt Lab website down. Downgraded from Docker 2.1.0.0 to 2.0.0.3 to resolve "resolving host" or ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED problems—thanks to James for the answer. Chatted with Eric and James about meat bees, health info websites, and dentistry and titles. Lunch by myself at Mo'Z: tuna melt on focaccia, side caesar salad with croutons, hot water with lemon. My lunch was marred by urban videos playing relentlessly on two screens in the main dining room. Throughout my meal they displayed videos with large-breasted, big-bootied, scantily clad women dancing, writhing, posing, gyrating, and twerking via someone's YouTube playlist. Think Nicki Minaj and Pitbull (the only two I recognized). I'd take a bite of my sandwich, then out of the corner of my eye, the video might show a woman wearing a thong with the shot filling the entire screen with her butt and she would raise it in slow motion to the fast beats. That's not what I enjoy while eating. The food was great, despite wanting to vomit. I wouldn't be surprised if the YouTube playlist was called Urban Whorehouse Waiting Room. The food seemed very fresh, expertly prepared, mint leaves plate accent (which you know they didn't have to do), generous portions for the price. Counter service, but the food deliverator got me a refill of hot water when asked, which I didn't expect. About $13 after a $1 tip (even tho counter service). Not sure I'll return. Bought snacks for work and home at Trader Joe's. Siteimprove work: created new groups for each microsite on pharm, linkchecking. Reported downed sites. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: braised beef with creamy polenta and side salad, Hint water. Dessert: we shared a banana split with chocolate ice cream, whipped cream from a can, maraschino cherries, and warm peanut butter sauce. We watched part of the July 31 Democratic debate via cnn.com. It was really hard figuring out how to watch it, since it didn't seem to be on YouTube. We wanted to watch the July 30 debate first, but somehow what we thought was the July 30 debate turned out to be the July 31 debate. Patrick went to bed. Second dessert: one root beer Twizzler. I washed dishes. Reinstalled MAMP Pro on Patrick's laptop.

Fri Aug 2, 2019

Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt and fresh raspberries and fresh, sliced banana; side of a sliced peach; 8 ounces of cold water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Continued resolving deprecated style classes people and people2018. Lots of various email followup. Snacked on various snacks throughout the day. Siteimprove work the rest of the day. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: red beans and rice with cheesy garlic bread, water. Dessert: two small pieces of dark chocolate. Continued watching with Patrick the July 31 Democratic debate via cnn.com. Home websites work: got MAMP Pro working again. Recharge Medical web work: change a price for something, updated the About page with new employee names. Washed dishes. Home websites broken links resolution. Late meal: leftover risotto, water.

Sat Aug 3, 2019

Slept in. Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt and fresh, sliced banana; one pint of hot water. More home websites work: stabilized my local dev environment and got it fully working on my account on Patrick's laptop as well. Lunch: mushroom soup, half of a grilled cheese sandwich with swiss, fresh dill, and salad greens. Patrick ate the other half of the sandwich but without salad greens. Hot water to drink. Organized photos that I had scanned earlier. Organized, edited, uploaded, titled, then privately shared photos from the Sensoria weekend. Watched the remainder of the July 31 Democratic debate via cnn.com with Patrick, flavored sparkling water, popcorn, and other snacks. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Dessert: ice cream. Patrick went to bed. I administered monthly updates and backups for all home devices. Removed a medium-sized black spider with the spider catcher to the garage. Washed dishes. Late meal: chicken and bean quesadilla from ingredients leftover from taco night, hot water.

Sun Aug 4, 2019

Slept in. Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt and fresh, diced apple; one pint of hot water. Resolved network problems by switching the sharing settings of the computer being shared from AFP to SMB protocol. Why have I been using AFP all this time? The problem I was having was that the computer I was trying to connect to would either disappear from the Finder sidebar or the Locations section of the Finder sidebar would disappear. If I restarted the connecting computer I could then connect, but a few minutes later it would disappear again, and my connection would fail to work. Patrick's MacBook Pro didn't have the same problem, so maybe it was caused by my laptop being in a mixed server environment at work? Patrick baked a devil's food cake today, and I helped by washing dishes. Nap. Shower. Rode UberX with Patrick to Alamo Drafthouse New Mission for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. We shared popcorn no butter and a baked pretzel. Patrick had a Dr. Pepper, I had water. We enjoyed the film, which made 2 hours and 45 minutes seem to pass quite easily. Food bill was $25.96 before a $4.60 tip for Horowitz, who was polite and efficient. Walked to dinner at Wise Sons: we shared a reuben sandwich with potato salad and a latke. Patrick had an egg creme; I had water. Counter service. The food was perfect. Patrick bought a few more items to go. Rode UberX home. Dessert: Patrick and I shared three rugulach total (1.5 rugulach each) with warm milk. Patrick went to bed. I polished the accordian wall mirror and other stainless steel fixtures in the bathroom. Washed dishes.

Mon Aug 5, 2019

Breakfast at home: toasted Wise Sons everything bagel with whipped cream cheese, hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Rode Uber Pool to SoMa. Met Patrick for couples counseling. Walked with Patrick to dinner at Montesacro Pinseria-Enoteca (415-795-3040, 510 Stevenson Street): prosciutto e melone, pinsa pietralata (guanciale, egg, pecorino/parm, mozzarella, black pepper). Mexican lager for Patrick, white wine for me. Dessert: Patrick had budino al cioccolato piccante, I had espresso sorbetto with whipped cream. $78.61 before a $13 tip for Antonio. Another great meal at the Pinseria. Rode UberX home. Washed dishes. Resolved some broken links for Lodestar.

Afterwards I prepared hot chocolate in the microwave and blender, and Patrick added cinnamon-juniper syrup. We began watching the July 30 Democratic debate via cnn.com for a while then switched to Blue Planet II via Netflix instant watch. Washed dishes. Resolved some broken links for Lodestar Quarterly. Late snack: grilled roast beef and swiss sprinkled with rosemary powder and freshly ground black pepper, hot water.

Wed Aug 7, 2019

Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt, fresh diced apple, cinnamon; one pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Task followup. Began backfilling related profiles in old Updates from the Dean. Calpoison kickoff meeting. D8 migration meeting. Snacked on dried fruit and kale chips instead of eating lunch. Dinner at home with Patrick: three-cheese ravioli with cherry tomatoes, sweet corn, garlic, basil and parmesan; Hint water. Afterwards we watched Whitney Cummings: Can I Touch It? on Netflix instant watch—so funny and weird! Resolved shell environment issues in my web hosting account.

Thu Aug 8, 2019

Breakfast at home: toasted sesame bagel with swiss and roast beef, one pint of hot water, one green apple. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Met Grant and Levi to photograph the new PharmD students counting Skittles and inserting them into pharmacy pill bottles, part of an exercise for them to examine their own behaviors in a medication adherance scenario. The shoot went well. Grant left to attend a talent show. Levi and I walked with his bike to lunch at Nopalito. We each got a plate of dos tacos pescado al pastor (rockfish), spicy sauce on the side, water. Levi's position was recently changed from temporary to permanent, so I treated. We talked about neuroscience, psychology, East coast vs. West coast, the Inner Sunset neighborhood, the randomness of encountering the same people at different points in your life, and more. $28.48 before a $6 tip. Afterwards we took a quick peek inside the new Tartine next door. He rode back to Laurel Heights. I walked to Parnassus and rode the shuttle back. Filed pcard paperwork. Prepped a diptych for a news story for Levi. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: pizza with bbq pulled pork, red onion, and sweet corn; red wine for me; Hint water for both. Fri Aug 9, 2019

Breakfast at home: whipped cream cheese, cherry tomato, and basil on toasted english muffin, one pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Chatted with Eric and James J about changes to the pcard reconciliation process. Completed resolving missing related profiles in old Updates from the Dean. HR import, encountered some issues and began working with Eric to resolve them. Edited and published a news story and hero for Levi. Met with Levi and Grant to review the Skittles photoshoot. Snacked on incan corn and banana chips. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: fusilli with pulled pork ragu with tomatoes, fresh corn, and basil; Hint water. Afterwards we watched half of Stranger by the Lake on Netflix DVD. Washed dishes. Resolved more broken links on home websites. Set up some additional linklint command shortcuts. Catalogued new extracts in the spices spreadsheet.

Sat Aug 10, 2019

More tweaking of linklint configuration. Breakfast at home: roast beef and swiss with dried thyme on toasted english muffin, a small side of granola with yogurt and chopped brazil nuts, one pint of hot water. House chores: vacuumed, cleaned the filter on the small vacuum cleaner. Cut my hair, showered. Lunch with Patrick: grilled roast beef and swiss sandwich. Helped Patrick create a new profile on his MacBook Pro in order to alleviate what is probably a corrupted profile causing slowness in all kinds of apps. Finished watching Stranger by the Lake on Netflix DVD. Neither of us liked the film very much. It had good acting but the pacing was too slow, the plot wasn't very interesting, and the dialog was boring. We're not sure how it has 6.8 on IMDB. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover fusilli with side salad with croutons and olive oil dressing, hot water for me, sparkling water for Patrick. Continued new profile setup. Patrick went to bed. Late snack: two red Twizzlers, some plantain chips, water. Late meal: dried fruit, chicken noodle soup from a can, water.

Sun Aug 11, 2019

Rode Muni with Patrick to the Castro, walked to Detour, which is the bar and restaurant that took over the old Botellon space to expand Brewcade. We had two drinks: Pixie Stick (gin, cucumber, aloe, mint, lime, soda) for Patrick, The Wiggle (tequila, lime, grapefruit, amaro, soda) for me. Dinner: we shared a burger with fries and a chicken napa cabbage salad with miso vinaigrette. We played video games Joust then Centipede. We then played free board games Connect Four and Battleship with another round of drinks: another Pixie Stick for Patrick, and Sucker Punch (mezcal, lime, bitter hibiscus, watermelon, tajin) for me. Walked and rode Muni home, encountering and chatting briefly with Larry H and Chris C at Castro Street Station, who were recently back from a vacation weekend. At home I heated a toffee milk chocolate cookie I got on the way home at Hot Cookie and ate that with hot milk mixed with water. Edited more childhood photos that I had scanned earlier. Continued playing The Witness on my iPad Pro.

Granted permissions for a website to Jennifer E at Esteban's request, with some followup afterwards. Email and task various followup. Asana went down today. Updated the list of websites to include a column indicating whether each site mentioned an affiliation with the School of Pharmacy. Began reading CSS Layout News, which seems pretty terrific. Sent inquiries to site owners about downed sites or who admins it. Followup with Jon R about identifying alums for LinkedIn. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: veggie enchiladas with side of black beans, Hint water. Continued playing The Witness on my iPad Pro.

Wed Aug 14, 2019

Thu Aug 15, 2019

Breakfast at home: leftover black beans with leftover chicken tikka masala and leftover rice, one pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Snack: banana chips, one Peruvian murcott. Walked and rode Muni to SoMa. Met Patrick for dinner. We decided on Pizzeria Delfina where we shared a tuna conserva (salad) and, on special, a squash blossoms pizza. Patrick had a happy hour beer; I had a happy hour red wine. Food and drink were delicious, service was good. Afterwards we visited SFMOMA. We weren't that interested in Warhol, which has an exhibition now thru September 2, but we did particularly enjoy JR: The Chronicles of San Francisco and Far Out: Suits, Habs, and Labs for Outer Space. JR was quite impressive—an animated, collaged, diorama on a huge scale inspired by Diego Rivera's murals. Attempted to ride Muni home, but just as we arrived we heard the tail end of an announcement. A fellow rider explained that Muni was not permitting outbound trains on the outbound track but that they would board outbound passengers on the inbound side and then switch the train to the outbound track along the way. The current wait was 20 minutes for an L train. We immediately returned upstairs. I obtained a refund at the ticket booth after waiting in line for about two minutes. Above ground we walked a little off Market Street. I began to order an Uber but its intructions seemed to indicate that we would need to walk even more, so I switched to Lyft. The Lyft estimate was seven minutes, and I ordered, but we waited at least twice that long, probably due to traffic, but the other weird thing was that the app said the driver had arrived for over five minutes before he actually arrived. The rest of the ride was fine.

Fri Aug 16, 2019

Breakfast at home: leftover chicken tikka masala and steamed basmati rice. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Siteimprove work. Snacked on nuts and dried fruit. Sat Aug 17, 2019

Slept in. Brunch: leftover fusilli and meatballs, one pint of water. Lodestar template troubleshooting. Snack with Patrick: pita and spinach dip. Phil, Drew, Danny, Romy, Phillip, and Paul picked me up at home. We drove to Sunnyvale for a celebration of Nate's birthday in the comfortable party room at their condo. I met or encountered many, some not for a long time: Theora with baby, Chris G, Larry, Patty, Mike, Mike, Jen, Quyen, Dave, David, Richard, Mike, Bill, Todd, Sravya, Achal. We enjoyed kabobs, mediterranean rice, pita and dips, various salads and snacks, a variety of drinks, and more. Quyen prepared a perfect orange cake with coconut frosting. Someone else—I didn't hear who—brought a black forest cake which was also delicious. People played pool and then ping pong. Nate gave a tour of the new condo. On the ride home, Phillip read hilariously from my journal for a bit. Late snack: two slices of bread with spinach dip.

Sun Aug 18, 2019

Breakfast: one Peruvian murcott. Brunch: leftover meatballs with leftover fusilli. Rode Muni to Embarcadero Street Station with Patrick. We walked to and visited Salesforce Park at the Transbay Terminal. It's a very pleasant space, and I was very impressed with what seems to be a very generous and well-designed gift to the people of San Francisco. Patrick noted that despite being a public space there seemed to be no issues with homeless people. His favorite part was the monkey puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana). During our visit we encountered a number of staffpersons, and some of them answered questions for us. Afterwards we considered brunching at Yank Sing on Stevenson Street then changed our minds and instead ate at Sears Fine Food because Patrick wanted diner food. Patrick had coffee with Al's Special (two eggs ordered over medium, corned beef hash, nine little pancakes, hash browns), I had hot water with Southern Corned Beef Hash and Eggs (with hash browns and toast). $40.86 before a $7.50 tip. Afterwards we visited Sunday Streets SoMa, walking along Folsom Street almost the entire length. Then we walked to the Castro, stopping at Turner's Kitchen along the way for beverages. I stopped at Cliff's then Hortica then again at Cliff's, finally buying two pieces of pottery for our orchids. Encountered Ray and Nicos in the Castro, then again encountered Ray on the train home, chatting briefly. Ray departed at West Portal Station. Walked and rode Muni home. Patrick showered then napped, then later I napped as well. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover meatballs and polenta with some fresh sauce, side salad with croutons, Hint cherry.

Dinner at home with Patrick: shrimp and andouille jambalaya, French bread and butter, Hint watermelon. Dessert: a few bites of toffee. Began watching with Patrick and popcorn The Expanse s1:e1 on Amazon Prime Video on Chris's recommendation. So far we like it. Finally resolved some troublesome problems with special characters in filenames in the Lodestar Quarterly website.

Wed Aug 21, 2019

Thu Aug 22, 2019

Breakfast at home: one nectarine, one pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Styling work: small fixes. Followup with Peter L about broken links. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: shrimp po-boys with a side of creole red beans, Hint watermelon. Continued playing The Witness for iOS on my iPad Pro with Patrick. Resolved broken links for Lodestar. Attempted to use Ingo's version of James B. Bowlin's linklint, but it didn't seem to have the https fixes that I needed, so I abandoned it. Late snacks: nuts, dried fruit, tortilla chips with guacamole and sour cream, water.

Fri Aug 23, 2019

Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt and fresh, diced green apple and a shake of cinnamon; one pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to work, chatting with Maria along the way. Made live a new news page for Guo Lab and informed Peter of the completion of his request. Virtual sprint standup. CSS methodologies research, Siteimprove task followup. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus with Grant. Attended Podcasting Essentials - Communicators Network Lunch & Learn with Grant B from our team and Ben M from Carry The One Radio. Lunched with Grant and Ben afterwards at Sriracha Thai. Cool winds blowing west to east along Parnassus Avenue were unusually and notably gusty today. After a fine meal, we stopped briefly at Arizmendi. They were out of ricciarelli, so I didn't buy anything. Grant got a snickerdoodle, and Ben got something else to go (scones?). Walked back to Parnassus Campus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights with Grant. Asana task followup. Walked and rode Muni to Chinatown. Met Patrick for dinner at China Live. San Pell and Gold Mountain cocktail ($15) for Patrick, still water and Trader Vic's Almost Mai Tai ($15) for me. We shared: crab spring rolls ($19), cucumber skins ($8), suckling pig ($34), duck chopped salad ($18), sheng jian bao (aka SJB) ($13.50). Patrick also had a Tsing Tao ($8) with the meal, which was seemingly timed to arrive exactly at the right time. For dessert we shared one sesame cheesecake ($8) and one tiramisu ($9). $178 after SF employer mandate ($7) and tax ($13.94) and before a $31.25 tip from Diana "Luna" G ("My name is Diana") whose service was enjoyable and whose recommendations were excellent. We sat on barstools at the corner of the dumplings station and enjoyed watching all the activity around us. We had visited only once before and it was mostly dead then. All of the food and drink were delicious. The suckling pig was served in slices with very crispy skin and very tender meat. It is very reminiscent of Peking duck. I don't recall ever having eaten anything like the SJB, which was my favorite dish of the meal. This was intentionally a splurge meal; the food, setting, and ambiance are great but the bang-for-buck value is low. We could probably have done with one fewer dish and one fewer dessert. Patrick found the cucumber dish particularly refreshing, exactly as Diana had promised. Rode UberX home. Hilariously, a woman boarded our UberX ride when we did and realized her mistake after I mentioned that I didn't order a shared ride. She alighted a block or so from our pickup.

Sat Aug 24, 2019

Brunch at home: one-egg veggie omelet with cheese, hash brown, sausage, sourdough toast with butter, one pint of hot water. Nap. Rode UberX with Patrick to the Portola District where we arrived too early for Drag Queen Bingo at El Toro Night Club (2470 San Bruno Avenue, San Francisco CA 94134): Welcome to the Jungle and enjoyed a walk in the neighborhood for about 45 minutes. The doors finally opened, and we waited in line for a while before entering. Encountered Severa Wang, Eric R, Alan, Mitchell, Ray, Michael I, Phil, and Drew. Patrick and I also met Carol, Todd, and Cliff, who sat next to us. We enjoyed ten rounds of bingo and did not win any prizes. Alan won a gift bag. Phil thought he won but was mistaken because that round was not regular bingo and he wasn't paying attention. Pollo Del Mar hosted and was very entertaining when she wasn't eating someone's quesadilla—ha ha! We could tell that it was a lot of work and a lot of people put a lot of love into the event which appeared to be very successful. We had a great time. Patrick had a Modelo and two carne asada and pinto bean tacos, I had a jungle juice cocktail and two mushroom quesadillas. Patrick said that his tacos were surprisingly delicious. The meat was tender, succulent, and juicy. Three soft corn tortillas per taco. Spicy salsa but not too spicy. $29 total. Service by Perla was excellent. Rode UberX to King of Thai Noodle to pick up two orders of kao pad gal tod then walked home to eat. To bed for Patrick then later for me.

We shared: california king salmon crudo (with cherry tomato, kelp, shiso, $19), gazpacho (sungold tomato soup with pistou, $12), wood-fired grilled chicken (with warm potato salad, haricots verts, onion, $36). Dessert: we shared a slice of chocolate souffle ($8.50) and a slice of tres leches ($8.50). Patrick also had a cassis kefir ($8) and an espresso ($3.50). $156.08 before a $30 tip. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: chicken and broccoli alfredo. Cocktails: old fashioneds. Nap. Midnight snack: leftover slice of pizza, hot water. We had planned to go dancing at Oasis tonight (MaDonna Summer: a Madonna and Donna Summer dance party), but we changed our minds at the last minute.
