Walked to breakfast at Antigua Cafe with Patrick: breakfast bagel sandwich no veggies and latte for Patrick, breakfast burrito with avocado and english breakfast tea for me. Sat Mar 2, 2019

More party prep. Late mini meal: leftover hoisin chicken with cashew over rice, water. To bed late.

Sun Mar 3, 2019

Today Patrick and I held a Mardi Gras party at our home. In attendance: Phil, Drew, Romy, Scott, Andy, Chris, Andy, Chris, Nate, Alan, Mitchell, Ray, Quyen, Dave, Richard, Michael, Paul, Wayne, Peter, Phillip H, Eric R, Stephen, and Richard. Patrick prepared 16 quarts of gumbo, spiced pecans, a punch bowl of brandy milk punch, shrimp dip with two extra long baguettes of French bread, sliced. I prepared three cups (before cooking) of white long grain rice to pair with the gumbo. To drink, Patrick prepared sweet iced tea with mint and unsweetened iced coffee with vanilla and almond with optional simple syrup. From the store: mini Coca-Colas, mini Perriers, and two kinds of beer. Patrick had previously ordered three New Orleans king cakes, two from Sucre, one from the Randazzo family. One of the Sucre cakes included tabasco. Beads, crown decorations, and paperware were from Cliff's. A few hours before the party one of the hanging lamps fell, so I installed a ceiling hook instead of relying on 3M Command Strips, and it turned out to be an easier install than I had expected. Everyone seemed to enjoy the food and have a good time, and we unexpectedly ended up with a lot of extra liquor and wine that everyone had brought. We ran out of rice and French bread and tabasco king cake. Only one piece of the Sucre regular king cake remained as well as about half of the Randazzo king cake. After everyone had departed, we both did some party cleanup followed by a long nap. I woke at night and tried continuing to sleep but failed. Got out of bed and began reading Dune. Read two chapters. Late snacks: hot water, one mandarin orange, three unsalted cashews, three salted cashews, apple-blueberry granola with milk. Pantry organization. More party cleaning.

Mon Mar 4, 2019

Attended Michael N's End of Life planning presentation with lunch included. I had two small sandwiches. Worked from Kalmanovitz Library. BJG's stewardship review meeting. Worked the rest of the day from Kalmanovitz Library on the Web Editor Help site. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: pepperoni pizza from frozen, water, brandy milk punch. Afterwards we watched Portlandia clips on YouTube and Patrick helped me complete two missing days in my journal from our recent Portland trip. House chores. Pantry organization.

Tue Mar 5, 2019

At the School of Pharmacy town hall I had one small peanut butter cookie and some water. Walked and rode Muni home, stopping at Arizmendi Bakery along the way. Zion. Doctor appointment. Walked and rode Muni home. No lunch. Dinner at home with Patrick: tortilla chips with guacamole, black bean and veggie enchiladas with Spanish rice, beer for Patrick, leftover brandy milk punch and water with lime for me. Afterwards we watched movie trailers on a Plex channel and short clips on YouTube: mostly John Mulaney on SNL.

Thu Mar 7, 2019

Breakfast at home: leftover gumbo and leftover steamed white rice, pint of hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. At 11:18 am I received an unsolicited phone call from 800-358-4325 and ignored it. Followup tasks following the departure of Ravinder S: orgchart prep, web edits. Worked with James on image issues in the RSS feed. Helped Liana with a html edit. Reviewed and published a story for Levi. Imported updated HR info from Diana. Styling work. Siteimprove work: redirect chains, created a new policy to find occurrences of commas and periods directly following straight double quotation marks and curly double quotation marks then resolved what it found. No lunch. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Mt. Zion. Rode Muni to the Castro. Met Patrick at Art Attack SF for the art showing called Worthy by The Tracy Piper, which we enjoyed. Afterwards we watched part of the John Mulaney SNL on Hulu.

Sat Mar 9, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: two biscuits with butter, pork sausage, scrambled eggs with green onions, 8 ounces of orange juice, hot water. Set up the new inkjet printer. I bought a Canon XP-7100, which narrowly edged out the Brother MFC-J690DW because it duplex scans and duplex copies and has better print quality. I ignored printer advice from The Wirecutter because their picks were all too large of a footprint for our small place. The MFC-J690DW is slightly smaller than the Canon XP-7100, but the latter's additional features are worth the slightly larger footprint to me. The Canon XP-7100 is replacing a Brother MFC-845cw which has served us well for, incredibly, 13 years but which lately has encountered text ghosting issues that I am unable to easily resolve. Housecleaning: dusting and vacuuming. Edited and uploaded photos to Flickr. Lunch: I prepared for myself mung bean noodle soup with herbs and mystery sauce packet found in the spice drawer. Nap. Dinner at home with Patrick: Marcella Hazan's embogoné (cranberry beans, sage, and rosemary) over deli-fresh pappardelle, beer for me, hurricane for Patrick, tap water for both. Dessert: chocolate ice cream with sliced almonds. Afterwards we finished watching Burn After Reading (2008) on Netflix DVD then watched Comedians of the World: Ivan Decker on Netflix instant watch. We didn't laugh very much, but we made it through the whole set. Archived documents—the first scans on the new Canon XP-7100. Recharge Medical work: editing.

Sun Mar 10, 2019

Breakfast at home by myself: two biscuits with butter, hot water. Rode UberX with Patrick to Alamo Drafthouse New Mission for Captain Marvel, which we enjoyed. We ate popcorn no butter and a fennel-sausage pizza. Water for me, triple chocolate shake for Patrick. $36.47 before a $7 tip for just the food. Along the way we got sidetracked by the Sunday Streets closure of Valencia Street. After the film we walked part of Valencia Street and got caught in light and moderate rain. I had a rain hood built into my silver-gray Zara boy's jacket, but Patrick had neither hood nor umbrella. We ducked into various shops, working our way northward for a while, then rode UberX to 19th and Castro where we worked our way similarly toward Market and Castro, then toward Church Street. We stopped at Cafe Flore for an afternoon snack: moscow mule for Patrick, eye opener (coffee with brandy and other things) for me, fries with garlic. Service was very slow, especially at first, as we had encountered in the past. About $45 after tip. Afterwards we ran errands then rode UberX home. Watched clips related to Captain Marvel on YouTube. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover shrimp creole for Patrick, leftover pappardelle for me.

Mon Mar 11, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: yogurt with sliced almonds, banana, and apple; cinnamon; 8 ounces of orange juice. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Siteimprove work: redirect chains. Web Editor Help site work. Helped Ruben create a new page on the CPCS site for media coverage. No lunch. Walked and rode Muni home. Patrick asked me to bring home some deli cornbread if I could find it. I looked or asked at Bryan's, Rigolo, Cal-Mart, Starbucks, Vixi, Walgreen's, and also called Beautifull! and none of them had it. I did, however, find some cheddar slices that he requested as well (Cal-Mart). Dinner at home with Patrick: red pork chili with french bread. Afterwards we watched Star Trek: Discovery s2:e8 on CBS All Access. Archived a document.

Tue Mar 12, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: egg and cheddar on everything bagel, 8 ounces of orange juice. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UC Pathway to Retirement seminar until 2 pm with included box lunch. I had turkey with provolone, side salad, part of a chocolate chip cookie, water. Afterwards I rode the UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Web Editor Help site work. Siteimprove work. Helped Angela K with a people page issue. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: chili redux, The Pioneer Woman's corn bread, water with lime. Afterwards we watched The Simpsons s30:e1 on Hulu Basic Plan.

Wed Mar 13, 2019

Breakfast at home by myself: cheddar on english muffin, sliced half apple. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Siteimprove work. 1:1 with Eric: performance evaluation meeting. Web Editor Help site work. Siteimprove work. Errand: grocery. No lunch. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: DiGiorno supreme pizza, mai tais.

Thu Mar 14, 2019

Fri Mar 15, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: two eggs over easy, sausage, cornbread with butter. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Thanh H from IT took my laptop away to reimage it at my request to resolve connection problems on my network at home. Finished reading Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think Revisited. Published a news story and a hero for Grant and Levi. Snack: one breakfast bar. No lunch. Began reading (or maybe rereading?) Edward Tufte's Beautiful Evidence. Walked and rode Muni home. Dropped off things I brought home from work. Changed into a different shirt. Walked and rode Muni with Patrick to Feinstein's at Hotel Nikko for dinner and Matt Alber with Keith Lawrence on (I think:) viola and Patrick McCaffrey on (I think:) vibraphone. The show was sold out. Almost the entire room was bears older than us with the exception of another Asian-Caucasian couple and a few women. Matt opened with a cover of New Rules by Dua Lipa. A few songs in all three musicians shared to much applause that they each had family members attending this show. In the middle Matt sang an a cappella version of Irving Berlin's Always. He closed with Monarch followed by End of the World. I enjoyed every minute of the performance which mixed familiar songs with ones new to me. I don't recall ever seeing bowing on a vibraphone before this—loved seeing and hearing that. Food and drink: Coke for Patrick, lemonade for me, we shared spicy tuna roll, chili nachos, margherita pizza, and for dessert a banana sundae with vanilla and chocolate ice cream. Just food and drink: $83.22 with 18% gratuity included. This was a lot more food than we should have ordered. The spicy tuna roll was a little too spicy for me; I ate only two pieces. I liked the nachos better than the pizza, but both were good. The Coke came with free refills, which isn't clear when you order. I didn't order a second lemonade, but presumably if it's free refills for Coke it's also the same for lemonade. Rode UberX home.

Sat Mar 16, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: oatmeal with shredded coconut, sliced almonds, raisins, dried apricot, cinnamon, milk; 8 ounces of orange juice. Had intended to cut my hair but instead troubleshot problems with the bathroom fluorescent lamps. Patrick returned from the store with new bathroom fluorescent lamps. I installed them, and they resolved the problem. The previous bulbs had dark spots near one end indicating that they were burned out. Lunch: leftover embogoné with pappardelle, water. House cleaning: bathroom dusting and whole house vacuuming. Set up some undersink organizers in the bathroom. Nap. Dinner at home with Patrick: penne florentine with chicken from a frozen package meal, leftover cornbread, water. Watched Star Trek: Discovery s2:e9 on CBS All Access then Superstore s4:e11 on Hulu Basic Plan with Patrick. Dessert: one baked chocolate chip cookie each from frozen, milk for Patrick, water for me. House chores: dishes. Tidied: rolled filler paper packaging from recent deliveries. Late meal: cheese ravioli from a can, hot water.

Sun Mar 17, 2019

Breakfast at home by myself: I prepared one hash brown, one egg scrambled with Spice Ace fines herbes, one half of breakfast sausage, one english muffin with butter, a pint of hot water. Cleaned and tidied in the apartment and the garage in preparation for guests. Patrick arrived home from martial arts practice and continued constructing a four-layer cake that he began yesterday with me helping. I wrapped two gifts. Patrick took a nap. Cut my hair, showered. Nap. Birthday party for Mom Ryan with Patrick, Mom Ryan, Kerry, cousin Tony, friend Mary, Sam. Patrick served tortilla chips and mango salsa, toast points with tapenade, instant coffee with cream, stevia ginger beer, beer, shots of bailey's, green tea with mint, ice water. The cake was four layers, two of chocolate, two of vanilla yellow. The frosting was vanilla white on top and between the layers and chocolate on the sides. The dining table was left in its usual position, and we added one leaf and a few chairs. We talked a lot about things that got us in trouble in the past. They left around 5:00 pm. I cleaned, tidied, and rested a bit. Mended two items: the crotch of one pair of Patrick's Uniqlo underwear and the right pocket of my tan Adams Mountain Abercrombie Kids jacket. Dinner at home with Patrick: Amy's chili mac frozen meal. It didn't look like chili mac to me—too saucy—but it tasted fine. On the side: leftover cornbread with butter. Afterwards we tried to watch season 1 episode 6 of The Other Two. From the search feature on our Roku television it seemed as though we could watch for free but when we got to the episode it required us to specify a television provider and we don't have one, so instead we watched some clips of the show on YouTube. More cleaning.

Mon Mar 18, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, hot green tea. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Another day with no computer while my laptop is being reimaged. I finished (re-?)reading Edward Tufte's Beautiful Evidence and began rereading his Envisioning Information. Handled a few emails from my iPhone X. Lunch: an orange. Midafternoon snack: one of Levi's delicious snickerdoodles. Chatted with Lani who had some good news about Jeremy. Rode Uber Pool to SoMa. Met Patrick for couples counseling. Rode Uber Pool to the Castro. Dinner at Super Duper (2304 Market Street) with Patrick: we each had a mini combo. Patrick subbed his drink with a chocolate shake. My drink was Dr. Pepper. Both burgers came with fries. $26.31 before a $1.50 counter service tip. Afterwards we walked some in the Castro, stopping at Cliff's and Walgreens before riding UberX home. At home I troubleshot problems with Apple Reminders not updating by logging out of iCloud on two devices then logging back in. I also weeded spam and updated spam filters using the entertainment center MacBook Air. Today I received an unsolicited call from 650-753-5471 which I did not answer. I presume it was a spammer or scammer.

Tue Mar 19, 2019

Breakfast at home: apple-blueberry granola with diced green apple and milk. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Another day waiting for my laptop to be reimaged by Thanh H at IT. Continued and finished rereading Edward Tufte's Envisioning Information. Read half of his Visual Explanations. Met with Susie about the Alumni Weekend afternoon program Keynote presentation. Today I received an unsolicited phone call from 303-771-0723. My phone display said Littleton, Colorado (CO). I did not answer and presume it was a spammer. Lunch: an orange. Afternoon snack: microwave popcorn. Errand: Cal-Mart for a few groceries. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Yan-Kit's stir-fried beef with mango and steamed rice, Hint pineapple. Dessert: leftover 4-layer cake with vanilla ice cream, amarena cherry, sliced almonds. I also had Bailey's on ice. Began discarding unused boxes in the garage in order to make more space. House chores. Tried using a new feature of OS Mojave and iOS 12 called Continuity Camera for the first time but both of the options (take photo, scan) were grayed out. I tried some troubleshooting steps but failed to resolve the problem after a few minutes. As a workaround I used Airdrop, which I was surprised to see worked as expected. Did some iCloud storage maintenance. Have to remember that after logging in with Apple ID to a new device I need to immediately turn off iCloud Photos and iCloud Backup which both turn on by default yet I don't want them on. With our Sonic fiber connection things upload very quickly and the storage on iCloud runs out of space. Maybe a good strategy is to turn off wifi before or after signing in. Or, don't sign in to iCloud when on wifi.

Wed Mar 20, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: bagels and cream cheese, everything for Patrick, poppy seed for me, coffee for Patrick, black assam for me. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights, wearing new Marmot rain pants for the first time. Sprint standup. Still waiting for my now-overdue laptop reimage from Thanh H at IT. Continued rereading from then finished Edward Tufte's Visual Explanations. Received my laptop; Thanh H happened to be out of office yesterday. Began computer setup. Received an unsolicited call which I did not answer from 415-878-1126 which I presume to be a spammer. Lunch: a blood orange. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Bon Appetit's spaghetti aglio e olio and lots of kale (February 2017), Hint pineapple. I also made myself a daiquiri. Afterwards we watched movie trailers and clips from The New Yorker channel on Plex. House chores. Unpacked and installed undersink organizers in the bathroom.

Thu Mar 21, 2019

Breakfast at home: I made for myself an egg, sausage, and cheddar english muffin sandwich; water with lime juice. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. All day: continued setting up my laptop following a reimage procedure. Lunch: an orange. Began Apple Keynote presentation work for Alumni Weekend afternoon program for Susie. Afternoon snack: bagged popcorn, coconut water. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Morrocan-spiced roasted chicken breast with heirloom carrots glazed with honey, date syrup, za'atar, and lime juice; Acme sour batard and butter; Hint cherry. Rewatched Star Trek: Discovery Short Trek "Runaway" then watched "Calypso." Today I received an unsolicited call from 415-852-8657 which I did not answer. I presume it was a spammer or scammer.

Fri Mar 22, 2019

Breakfast at home: Patrick made us sour batard french toast, hot tea. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Today I received an unsolicited phone call and voicemail from an automated voice from 205-588-8307 which I presume to be a spammer or scammer. Continued Apple Keynote presentation work for Alumni Weekend afternoon program for Susie. No lunch. Susie gave me a ride home. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Chang's Kitchen via Uber Eats. Cocktails for both: fleur de lis. Date night at home with Patrick. We chatted in the bedroom with the heater turned up. To bed early, then woke in the middle of the night. Couldn't sleep, so I did silent house chores.

Sat Mar 23, 2019

Breakfast at home: Chinese food leftovers from last night. First time at home with the laptop following a reimage with macOS Mojave. Reconfigured my local web development environment for home websites, finally moving my sites from /Applications/MAMP/htdocs to ~/Sites and synching with Dropbox by creating an alias to ~/Sites in ~/Dropbox. Many of my sites show a blank page when using PHP 7.2. If I switch to PHP 5.6 or 7.1 it works as expected. Also, Grav Admin fails to work with PHP 7.1. If I change to PHP 7.0 it works. Staged and pushed live a lot of Recharge Medical website changes that Drew and Alyssa had been waiting on for USCIS N-648. Dinner at home with Patrick: beef bolognese with fresh pappardelle, Hint blackberry, red wine. Afterwards we watched Star Trek: Discovery s2:e10 on CBS All Access. More home webs reconfiguration and updates. Earlier today at home talking with Patrick I asked him what he had planned to do with a meditation cushion that had been in storage for a long time, and he said he didn't know yet. So I told him, "Why don't you meditate on it?"

Sun Mar 24, 2019

Breakfast at home: leftover Chinese food leftovers. Prepared taxes all day, completing two of four returns. Lunch at home: leftover Chinese food leftovers. Dinner at home with Patrick: Whole Foods pad see yew, which really wasn't pad see yew. The noodles were pad thai noodles. The greens were kale. Yes, kale. Cut into very small pieces. For dessert Patrick made a chocolate shake, and I had a very small portion of it with a shot of Kahlua. Afterwards we watched Comedians of the World on Netflix, skipping two of them a few minutes in each, ending with Joel Dommett, whom we liked and laughed at a lot. We also watched a Star Trek: Discovery Short Trek called The Brightest Star. Did some followup on Google Search Console issues for home websites.

Mon Mar 25, 2019

Breakfast at home: granola with yogurt and diced pear. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Received on my work telephone a missed phone call notification from 205-588-8307 which I presume to be a spammer or scammer. Continued Get Started buttons work in Photoshop for Cindy. Errand: Wine Impressions. Walked and rode Muni home. Received a new Bagito bag today.

Tue Mar 26, 2019

Breakfast at home with Patrick: scrambled eggs with grated parmesan and diced green onions, hash brown with ketchup, whole wheat toast with butter, 8 ounces of orange juice. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights, stopping at Walgreens along the way. Bought $20.71 of items but then realized after the transaction was complete that I forgot to pull out the $5 rewards coupon I had intended to use for a $20-minimum purchase. Why can't rewards be automatic? Why can't people save money even if they are forgetful? Received unsolicited phone calls from 408-333-2763 which I presume to be a spammer or scammer. Resolved error "Unable to download bz2" when starting or launching Sublime Text 2 using the solution provided by fabritw on Sep 22, 2017 at https://github.com/wbond/package_control/issues/1134#issuecomment-331585126 : Press Cmd+Shift+P to open the Command Palette then type 'package' then select 'Preferences: Package Control Settings - User' then add "downloader_precedence": { "osx": ["curl"] }, to the first line of the settings file after the opening curly brace (checking that the syntax is correct if other settings were present). Save, then after a few seconds you should see a dialog: 'Package Control: 1 missing dependency was just installed. Sublime Text should be restarted, otherwise one or more of the installed packages may not function properly.' Restart Sublime Text 2 and the problem should be gone. Spent the rest of the day setting up local dev environment with Vagrant and mystic. Lately I have been receiving lots of spam from Vanessa Bateson at Pantheon—so annoying. Added Pantheon to my blocklist. No lunch. Errand: grocery. I had then planned to return the Walgreens items solely to get my $5 off, and then I realized that the coupon had expired two days ago. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: celery risotto made with rosemary broth. Dessert for me only: vanilla ice cream with chopped chocolate bar pieces sprinkled on top. Afterwards I edited a synopsis of one of Patrick's novels then also tried my hand at writing one from scratch.

Wed Mar 27, 2019

Ran an errand. Worked from the Dean's Office Administration office on the Web Editor Help site. No lunch. Rode Uber Pool to the Castro. First visit to a new eye doctor. I arrived 30 minutes early for a 5:30 pm appointment. I unexpectedly didn't get done until 7:30 pm. Got fitted with new gradient polymer contact lenses and placed an order for new eyeglasses using an existing frame. Patrick was supposed to meet me at Finn Town at 6:45 pm. He canceled our reservation and instead we ate pizza slices at Oz Pizza: buffalo chicken, pesto, and mushroom with root beer for Patrick; sausage, ricotta, and basil with water for me. Rode UberX home.

Finished reading Dune. Late meal: leftover pappardelle.

Fri Mar 29, 2019

UCSF holiday. Slept in. Breakfast at home: toasted everything bagel with cream cheese, sliced cucumber, and jordanian za'atar; 7 ounces of orange juice. Receive an unsolicited call and Chinese language voicemail from 415-879-3722 and presumed it was a spammer or scammer. Recharge Medical work: USCIS poster brochure. Washed mold off the front door and part of the garage door. Did some weed pulling in the front of the house. Late lunch at home: leftover risotto. Continued and completed filing taxes. Delivery from A Desi Cafe via Caviar and a promo code credit from a recent class action lawsuit: kabuli naan, basmati rice, tandoori prawns, chicken saagwala: $29.09 after the $15.30 promo code. Food was good but spicier than I had hoped even tho we requested mild. The shrimp arrived essentially cold, but Patrick told me they lose heat quickly so I guess there's nothing you can do for delivery. Watched Superstore s4:e13 Lovebirds on Hulu Basic Plan then Comedians of the World c3:e2 Mae Martin on Netflix. Created new custom wallpaper for my iPhone X that has instructions to someone who finds my phone on what to do. It also has photos of Patrick and me along with our names. Tip of the hat to BK.

Watched Star Trek: Discovery s2:e11 on CBS All Access with Patrick and leftover birthday cake from frozen.

Sun Mar 31, 2019

Breakfast: one sliced pear. Repaired a small, portable fan which had been making funny noises as the fan blades spun. The hardest part was figuring out how to remove the fan blade from the rest of the assembly. A small, plastic o-ring needed to be removed, but it was not obvious even with YouTube repair tutorials. I encountered difficulty because the location of the o-ring was recessed and because my glasses prescription is out of date. Eventually I was able to remove the o-ring with a pair of small, fine-pointed scissors; a small flat-head screwdriver; a small phillips-head screwdriver; and a pair of tweezers. Washed and dried the dirty parts. A few drops of oil, then some paper towels to absorb the excess. Reassemble, test, and done. No more funny noises. Continued troubleshooting "communication error. check if the computer is connected." when attempting to scan to computer from an Epson XP-7100. Gave up and next I will try setting up the scan to cloud feature as a workaround. Attempted to repair a candle with a broken wick by digging out some of the wax with a small flat-head screwdriver.
