Sat Jan 4, 2020

Walked all day in the Presidio. Patrick remained at home working on edits to his first book. I walked and rode Muni to Presidio Avenue and Jackson Street, then walked into the Presidio. It took me only a few minutes to find one end of Andy Goldsworthy's Wood Line. I walked the entire length, taking a few photos along the way. Afterwards I walked to Presidio Officers' Club for a light lunch at Arguello: chicken taquitos (guajillo sofrito, tomatillo-avocado salsa, cotija cheese), Mayan toddy (anejo tequila, lemon, honey, xtabentun, served hot with a lemon skin pierced with three cloves). $26.05 before a $5 tip. Spent some time visiting Earth Wall and then visited the adjacent public living room called Moraga Hall before seeing the exhibits in the Presidio Officers' Club. With the help of a guide at the front I discovered that I had failed to find Tree Fall earlier because it didn't open until noon (and there is nothing indicating that you are at the correct location at other times of the day). Visited Tree Fall then the Presidio Bowling Center, which I learned is the least expensive place to eat in the area. Walked Ecology Trail (Upper) to Inspiration Point Overlook and encountered a woman wearing black leggings with wide, sheer strips from her ankle to her hip. Visited Spire, then the Presidio Golf Course Clubhouse. Walked out of the Presidio via a small footpath in the clubhouse parking lot to Arguello Boulevard, then rode UberX home. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Began watching The Red Turtle (2017) on Netflix DVD with Patrick.

Sun Jan 5, 2020

Rode UberX to 15th Avenue House. Met Phil, Drew, Danny, Peter, and Wayne. We drove to Cliff House for brunch. Danny and I shared a bacon mushroom cheddar scramble split. We enjoyed popovers with butter and beautiful views of the coast. Afterwards we hiked a bit in Land's End, first in paths around the golf course, then along the cliffs with the breathtaking views of the Golden Gate Bridge. We visited the Legion of Honor, starting with the James Tissot exhibit, which was very enjoyable. Returned to 15th Avenue House. I walked and rode Muni home. Vacuumed air filters. Dinner at home with Patrick: beef burgers with mushrooms and Swiss cheese and French fries. Finished watching The Red Turtle (2017) on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Cuddled in bed with Patrick. Skimmed and took notes on Malcolm Gladwell's Talking to Strangers. To bed late.

Mon Jan 6, 2020

Ran Angkor Wat Cambodia Virtual Run from World Nature Video via Treadmill TV on YouTube. Breakfast at home: one pear, one english muffin sandwich with cream cheese, black pepper, tomato slice, fresh parsley, za'atar; water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. HTML email template work: refresh font-face definitions. Analyzed our Mailchimp billing plan options. We recently crossed the threshold whereby the monthly plan is less expensive than the pay-as-you-go plan, so I worked with Eric to make the switch and begin resending the campaigns that had been canceled. Submitted a request to UCSF IT to whitelist Calpoison in Proofpoint. Sent a second request to be unsubscribed from the UCLA CashNET mailing list; no one replied to my first attempt. Installed Speedtest by Ookla for macOS after recently installing it for home. Apparently the app is more accurate than the same test run at speedtest.net in the browser; I never knew. Lunch: roasted, unsalted peanuts; one breakfast bar. Styling: secret project. Read from CSS Layout News and NNGroup news. Encountered a memory error: Your system has run out of application memory. I have never gotten this error before. Activity Monitor showed that memory pressure was indeed high. Quitting apps one by one failed to reveal any changes, so I restarted the computer, and that fixed it. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: salmon enchiladas with roasted corn, guacamole, and black beans. To bed early.

Dinner at home with Patrick: farfalle with shrimp, broccolini, burrata and lemon sauce. Dessert: leftover pear tart that we had saved in the freezer, apple pie ice cream. Watched part of John Mulaney and the Sack Lunch Bunch. So far it's very funny. To bed early. Woke around 2 am and couldn't sleep, so I washed dishes then returned to bed.

Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: chicken parmigiana with spaghetti and toasted ciabatta. Recharge Medical email campaign work in Booker. This is the first time I'm trying to build a campaign in Booker, and it's disappointing compared to what Mailchimp offers, but Booker no longer offers integration with Mailchimp. The Booker tools are very limited: no way to change fonts, no way to edit source code directly, no way to add ordered or unordered lists, no way to create and use your own template—very primitive. Changed possibly compromised passwords that I was notified about by a report in my password manager.

Wed Jan 15, 2020

Continued running Grand Canyon National Park Virtual Rim to River Run Down South Kaibab Trail 4k via Treadmill TV on YouTube, passing the intersection at Tonto West and Tip Off and continuing until I saw a lake below. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights, listening to the entirety of The Top Part by John Mulaney via Hoopla via SFPL. Sprint standup. More orgchart work (finad). Read CSS Layout News issue 233. For lunch I ate some roasted, unsalted peanuts. Then I tried making oil-free, salt-free popcorn from the microwave popcorn popper, but this second batch of rehydrated popcorn failed to pop properly. The kernels were twisted onto themselves in a strange way and tasted too tough. Too much water, perhaps? Lunch at Bean Sprouts at the JCC, my first time. I had a roasted veggie pizza (red bell pepper, onions, zucchini) and water. $10. The restaurant seems like it's designed to be fun for kids and barely acceptable for adults. Afterwards I visited Katz Snyder Gallery for Big Bellies, an exhibition of art by developmentally disabled artists. My favorites were the papier-mache grapes and the pointillismesque details of works similar to the cupcake dessert platter. Editorial style guide editing. QBC and grad programs followup. Created a sign promoting our screen and scientific poster presentation templates. Susie gave me a ride home. Dinner at home with Patrick: brined pork chops quinoa pilaf and side salad, water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights. Heavy rain this morning, and one 28R bus went missing. My commute riding the 28 followed by the 1 took one hour instead of the normal 50ish minutes. Upon arrival I discovered that my socks had gotten wet I think when I had stepped in a puddle. Sprint standup. Switched from Box Sync to Box Drive. It was very simple, took only a few minutes, and worked fine. The main benefit is better integration with your computer (aka macOS Finder), and a lot of tasks like sharing are faster and easier than before. We browsed in Schubert's and Kamei before riding UberX home. We spent about 20 minutes reentering credentials on the Roku remote and trying to figure out how to watch Star Trek: Nemesis without paying more than we already were. It wasn't available on our CBS All Access subscription. It wasn't available on Hulu Basic Plan (despite what Just Watch told us). It wasn't available on Netflix instant watch. He gave us a 10% discount. $35.06 before a $6.50 tip. Afterwards we queued first in line for SF Sketchfest: Sandra Bernhard in conversation with Peaches Christ and followed by a screening of Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy ($45 each). It's delicious.

In exchange our server generously gave us a small discount on our bill. $69.81 before a $12 tip. Service by Jaclyn C was very good. Walked and rode BART then Muni home.
