Chatted briefly with Stephen B at the Muni bus stop. Lunch at You See Sushi: sushi combo #3, hot green tea. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Along the way I continued studying Spanish on Duolingo. Lots of orgcharts work: school, dean's office, education, archive page. Microsites work: replace one image on the topics A2 page with Bob U. I figured out a way to wrangle SVG into a half size while duplicating our look and feel for an image caption. Bob is happy. Now I just have to replace all their site's other images like it. It's on the to do list. Afternoon snack: one navel orange. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: roast chicken breast, mashed potatoes, peas. Dessert: gingerbread molasses cookies, milk with Bailey's for me. The Archer C7 router arrives.

Sat Feb 4, 2017

Woke around 2:30 am due to an argument between a couple in the upstairs unit. Couldn't return to sleep until around 5:00 am but then only lightly. Woke again around 7:30 am, trying to sleep until 9 am. Turned Sleep Cycle off, then stayed in bed until 1:30 pm. Began a chat with Brandon from the upstairs unit regarding problems with trash/recycling pickup. Late lunch: leftovers. Attempted to hang a mirror in the dressing room, but the room is slightly crooked, and the mirror still doesn't look right after several hours of work and lots of unnecessary scars on the wall. Dinner at home with Patrick: I prepared steamed white rice, deli carnitas, and leftovers; white wine. Dessert: panettone from Simmone, dessert wine.

Sun Feb 5, 2017

Slept in due to more sleeping issues. I think I might be falling into a bimodal or interrupted sleep pattern. Patrick made breakfast for me: swiss cheese omelet, one hash brown, one sausage link, one slice of toast with butter. Attempted to resolve our trash problem by sorting the top layer of trash properly but discovered issues that need to be discussed with the upstairs unit. Laundry. Cut my hair, showered. Lunch at home with Patrick: pizza from frozen, we split one cola Zevia soda. Cleaned the mirror hanging mess from yesterday. Vacuumed. Folded laundry. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef Italian meatballs and orzo with creminis, lacinato kale, tomatoes, fresh herbs; we split one ginger ale Zevia soda. Removed the Sonic Pace wifi router and installed a TP-Link Archer C7 wifi router. The process was easy except for the drive sharing. It recognized my WD My Passport Ultra as "volume1," but when I tried to set up the drive for sharing it created the shared folder which appeared empty even though I knew it had lots of files on it. I gave up for now trying to get it to work. This will enable us to return the Sonic Pace router to Sonic; we had been renting it for $10/month, and I hadn't gotten around to doing this until now. At the same time I also reorganized the networking equipment and laid new grip liner on top of our bookshelves where the equipment is stored. Speed test from a 2012 MacBook Air over ethernet with the Archer C7 on our Sonic gigabit fiber internet was 744 Mbps down, 107 Mbps up. Same MacBook Air over wifi from two rooms over: 50 Mbps down, 49 Mbps up. From my 2012 iMac over wifi from two rooms over: 179 Mbps down, 94 Mbps up.

Mon Feb 6, 2017

Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Along the way I continued studying Spanish on Duolingo. Sprint standup. Breakfast from The View Cafe: egg and cheese on english muffin, water. Followup with IT about receiving spam from sites already in my blocklist (aka Barracuda not working as expected). Microsites work: PKCourse followup with Bob, Savic Lab edits and now in MSO review. Prep for styling work in Drupal. I discovered today that in Outlook Web App (for Exchange 2013) in Safari 10.0.3 on Mac OS 10.11.6 El Capitan it's not possible to set a url in non-underlined text or in a color other than blue. Styling work in Drupal: news series bug and head. Email signature work: draft build for plancomm. Lunch at Noah's Bagels: hot turkey and swiss on plain with pickle slice and potato salad, water. Errand: hardware store. Styling work in Drupal: news series bug and head. Email signature work: draft build for plancomm. Microsites work: PKCourse G-I tract image: rebuilt the broken tablet from almost-scratch, successfully bringing the filesize down several orders of magnitude. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef jerk chicken tostadas with chipotle-maple potatoes and bell peppers, slaw; white wine. We watched videos about La Bread Xpress and Eatsa on YouTube.

Tue Feb 7, 2017

Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Styling work: news series committed. Recommitted the same news series commits to the identity retheme branch I have been working on. Microsites work: followup with PKCourse, all is well. Followup with IT about receiving spam from crainalerts.com. Microsites work: made Savic Lab live, built a placeholder site for Experiential Education and handed it to Stephen B for buildout. Followup tasks for Savic Lab launch. A-Z List work: submitted two requests. Called Sonic and arranged for return of their rented Pace router. Prepped for returning to work on the identity retheme fonts. Lunch at the JCC: chicken sandwich and fries. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus with James H. Along the way I continued studying Spanish on Duolingo. School of Pharmacy Town Hall. Errands. Worked from my phone in Kalmanovitz Library: email and Asana task followup. Read the first 12 of 39 pages of the August 2016 editorial style guide from University Relations. It's distributed only as a PDF, so I'm reading it in iBooks. The reading experience is tedious, but it could definitely be worse. Rode Uber Pool home. Chatted briefly with upstairs neighbor Brandon about waste pickup problems. Dinner at home with Patrick: tandoori chicken drumsticks, leftover steamed white rice, macaroni salad. Spent a lot of time resolving a problem printing from my wifi-connected iMac to a Brother HL-5250DN laser printer which was connected to our router via ethernet. The problem was that before I set up our new TP-Link Archer C7 the printer had had a static IP address while plugged into a different router. Since this printer doesn't have a control panel display, there is no obvious way to check its network configuration directly. The printer did not appear in BRAdmin Light because it was set to a different network. I used the rather cryptic procedure to reset the printer to its default network settings, and then was able to add it in System Preferences Printers and Scanners so that it would work as expected. The other tip that helped was that while the printer is on and in a ready state you can press the Go button three times quickly and it will print three settings pages, the last of which is the network configuration which has some useful information like its current IP address. In all, the solution was very unintuitive, and quite vexing for about 45 minutes. Archived tax documents.

Wed Feb 8, 2017

Breakfast at home: one pear, leftover meatballs and orzo. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Along the way I continued studying Spanish on Duolingo. Sprint standup. Followup with Cindy and Megan about livestreaming commencement. Emergency edit to the education unit page for Susie. PharmD content edit prep: acad prereqs. Styling work in Drupal all day: identity retheme fonts. David J's going away lunch at Garibaldi's with David, Paula, Susie, Susan H, Michelle, James H, Eric, Denetra, La'Trece, and Nancy. Appetizers included crispy brussels sprouts and risotto croquettes. I had a chicken milanese sandwich with french fries and, for dessert, chocolate budino. The sandwich and fries were perfect. The budino was not pudding- or custard-like at all. The espresso ice cream included in the dish had melted completely, probably due to our party being so many people. There was a chocolate cake-like substance inside, but it was hard to identify from the remainder of the dish, which was essentially eight ounces of chocolate syrup. I barely ate a third of it before quitting—too sweet. The meyer lemon panna cotta looked like a better choice. Still, service was excellent, and it seemed all had a nice time. Susie and Paula said a few words, and many toasts to David were made. Read pages 12 to 22 of the August 2016 editorial style guide from University Relations. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: chicken piccatta with leftover steamed white rice, hot water. Did more testing of printing and discovered that it stopped working from my computer where it was working yesterday. This time I redid the same reset procedure as yesterday but gave both printers static IP addresses. Now printing works from everything. Hopefully it will stick this time. Continued playing Progress on my iPhone 6 Plus.

Late snack: a few spoonfuls of greek yogurt. Discovered a problem with our refrigerator not cooling properly.

Sat Feb 18, 2017

Brunch: leftover pad see yew. Spent basically all day cleaning and repairing our refrigerator. The fridge portion had stopped becoming cold, and I discovered last night that a lot of ice had built up in the freezer. I found web pages and YouTube videos that helped me figure out the problem: the back panel of the freezer needed to be removed, and the secret area defrosted, declogged, and cleaned. It took about 5.5 hours. I cleaned the fridge and freezer inside, outside, and underneath. The drip pan overflowed. I used old towels to mop and remove the excess water and mess. Exhausted. Lunch: Patrick and I shared a chicken sandwich and Funyuns from Lou's. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Mahalo via Grubhub: kahlua pork, rice, and mac salad for me; chicken katsu, rice, and green salad for Patrick; onion rings to share; water. Purchased WiFi Explorer for Mac by Adrian Granados-Murillo. I saved a note in Pinboard (or maybe then it was Delicious) that Scot B had recommended this app. I like it but probably won't need to use it much. I'm still glad I bought it.
