Wed Mar 1, 2017

Sprint standup. Made a small change to master to increase date font sizes on only our home pages following the removal of the years. Reviewed PharmD content inventory and recent reorganizing work. Identity retheme styling work the rest of the day. Rode Uber Pool home. Repaired a broken handle on the dryer lint screen with repair putty. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef kale-mushroom linguine with red pepper sauce, butternut squash, pesto. A vole appeared at our back door tonight. Successfully upgraded MAMP PRO to version 4.1.1.

Thu Mar 2, 2017

Released the vole into the forest at the back of our back yard. Breakfast at home with Patrick: two eggs, turkey sausage, silver dollar pancakes, orange juice, coffee. We chatted about subtitles and captioning for videos, language and communication in medical arenas, C-building construction, websites, web apps, Open Proposals, science writers, journalists, the Washington Post offer included with Amazon Prime (which I later learned is 6 months free upon activation), Mozilla, current projects, and more. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Park Gyros via EAT24.

Fri Mar 3, 2017

Quick breakfast: granola with greek yogurt, lactaid milk, blueberries. Sam picked up Patrick and me. We visited California Academy of Sciences using two tickets that my brother had gotten me for Christmas and one discounted ticket I purchased with the UCSF discount. We enjoyed our visit very much, seeing The Swamp, the Earthquake exhibit and room, the Osher Rainforest, the Habitat Earth planetarium show, Tusher African Hall, the penguins, the aquarium, the living room. Afterwards Patrick and Sam had a class assignment to complete at the de Young Musuem which took about 20 or 30 minutes. We then drove to The Home Depot in Colma to pick up a few items. Sam dropped us at home. Nap. Patrick and I walked to 19th and Taraval. Along the way we encountered lots of people walking westward due to the Muni L train being broken for some reason. Dinner at Sushi Raw with Patrick: two bento boxes with miso soup, salad, aji fly, tempura, tempura shrimp, teriyaki salmon, chicken katsu, spicy tuna sushi. To drink: a discounted large hot sake, ice water. Walked home. Muni L still broken. Helped Will with some paperwork he needs. I learned today that if you want to add a drawn signature to a PDF from a Mac with a Magic Trackpad or a mouse, it's much easier to do in Preview than in Adobe Acrobat Pro 11. Acrobat Pro theoretically has a way to do it, but the cursor while drawing is so sensitive as to be completely unusable, and it requires three-finger drawing, which is clumsy because you easily run out of room on the trackpad. With Preview I used one finger and it was surprisingly simple. I was done in a few seconds.

Sat Mar 4, 2017

Slept in. Replaced light bulbs in our bathroom, switching from cool white to a warmer white. Brunch: leftovers. Watched Arrival on Netflix DVD with Patrick and microwave popcorn. I mostly liked the film. Changed more light bulbs in the smaller bedroom. Rode Uber Pool to the Mission. Dinner at Shotwell House with Drew, Danny, Phil, Romy, Paul, Richard, and Michael: Danny prepared beef pho and chicken pho. Dessert was chocolate cake and a side of fresh pineapple. Drew gave me a set of leather coasters from Tanner Goods. Rode UberX home.

Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef fig-mushroom flatbreads and blue cheese sauce, quinoa and roasted veggie salad; red wine; ginger ale Zevia soda.

Mon Mar 6, 2017

Breakfast: an orange, granola with greek yogurt, lactaid milk, blueberries, diced apple. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Along the way I continued studying Spanish on Duolingo. Calendar management. Responded to an image request from KY. Created an updated course schedule change form for Joel. Helped Katherine K with a request to have a calendar feature that is different than the calendar feature we have now. Identity retheme styling work. Lunch from The View Cafe: lasagna: about $4. Snack: a granola bar. Identity retheme styling work. Rode Uber Pool home. Removed a squeak from my bedroom door hinge by removing the pin, cleaning it with Goo Gone, lubricating it with petroleum jelly, and replacing it. Dinner at home with Patrick: pepperoni pizza from frozen with additional toppings: fresh tomato, spices, leftover chicken; san pell. Recharge Medical work: open house reception html email build, sent it out for review. Repaired our plastic recycling bin with repair putty. Today I called Cuisinart because they have a recall on blades for certain food processors. I had submitted my request for a replacement blade in January and had not heard back. I was surprised to learn that my request is in their queue and the new blades are out of stock. Mine isn't due to be ready until June. This recall was announced in December, and I won't be able to use the primary blade in my food processor for five or six months! I have liked Cuisinart products in the past, but this recall and this poor response is something to remember for future purchases.

Tue Mar 7, 2017

Followup with Ruben about the Calpoison website build. Calendar management. Posted job posting listings for Peter for BTS. At lunchtime I went to the JCC for the first time in a long time and was disappointed to discover that they no longer serve hot meals. All meals are now grab-and-go packages in the refrigerator case, and they will heat your purchase if you ask. Instead of eating I visited a new gallery show by Julia Anne Goodman called On Verticality, which was enjoyable. I walked to Rigolo for lunch and discovered by way of one of the workers that they can make a chicken burger even though it's not on the menu. I had that with fries and water from my Thermos water bottle. Followup with Lisa C about digital letterhead. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef spanish pork chops and romesco cauliflower, black lentils and corn, almonds; ginger ale Zevia soda. Watched the new Deadpool 2 trailer on YouTube with Patrick. Lunch at Vixi: tortellini alla panna (cheese tortellini with pancetta, sage and cream). Errand: at the hardware store I found 3M Command Strips mini refill strips (item 17020). At $3.99 for 12 it's not the best price, but I have had a hard time finding this size elsewhere. Rode Uber Pool to the Mission. Dinner at Alamo Drafthouse New Mission with Patrick in row 8, seats 27 and 28: root beer for Patrick, la paloma for me (which I liked), chocolate shake to share, regular popcorn, mushroom pizza: $31 for tickets, about $50 for food and drink. We watched Logan which we both liked. Recently I was able to predict data loss occurring with Simplenote and Notational Velocity after noticing that it wasn't updating as expected, again likely in concurrence with poor connectivity conditions.

Fri Mar 10, 2017

Identity retheme styling all day. Lunch: leftovers from yesterday. BTS logos rebuild to correct some errors. Dinner at Destino with Patrick: holy mole for Patrick, pisco punch for me; a group of small plates: ceviche peruana, ceviche mixto (we liked the mixto better), chicken empanada, arepa-ropa, pancetta, sauteed kale. Walked to Dolores Park where I met with Drew, Danny, Romy, Paul, Wayne, and Peter. Richard and Michael arrived a little later. We all sat under a gnarled tree enjoying the warm, sunny weather. The forecast was a high of 66, but it was much warmer than that, especially in the sun. Afterwards I walked with Drew to the Castro where he shopped for candles then said goodbye and rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef cajun mac 'n' cheese with shrimp, red and green bell peppers, arugula salad. Watched part of Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Netflix DVD with Patrick.

At lunch I attempted to dine at Burma Superstar, but at about 2:05 pm I was surprised to find that it was packed with a line out the door. Instead I ate at sister restaurant B Star which was very quiet. Pumpkin pork stew with coconut rice and a veggie wrap side with dipping sauce, hot oolong tea. About $23 after a nice tip. Very satisfying with interesting and unusual flavors. Fast and friendly service. My meal seemed to emerge from the kitchen only a few minutes after ordering. Afterwards I browsed a bit in shops on Clement Street: Ace Hardware, Tantrum. UFD html email launches. More two-tier logo builds. Letterhead builds. Attempted to set up redirects for fdatransportal but failed. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Green Chef tarragon-roasted chicken with sautéed beets, carrots and snap peas, barley. Did some cleanup on our servint VPS: backing up then deleting unused databases, then deleting some unused domains. Rode Uber Pool to the Sunset. Dinner at Sunset Reservoir Brewing Company with Patrick: industry standard for Patrick, golden mule for me. We shared: caesar salad, mac and cheese, fried chicken with cole slaw. $65.07 before a $12 tip. Patrick had returned the vole to the forest this morning. We walked home. Troubleshot CrashPlan problems on Patrick's computer. In the process I found that my own local CrashPlan backups had not been working but I received no notice of it. Security check: updating Flash and Shockwave where needed. Spent about an hour on online chat with Bluehost. They had signed me up for a service called SiteLock without my permission. The feedback I left after the chat ended was: "very long wait time, verify by asking for part of my account password is very poor security practice, neither of my issues was resolved, had to ask three times for a reference ID for the chat before finally receiving it".

We explored Calacademy: experienced the earthquake room, watched Incoming! in the planetarium, saw various exhibited artifacts, saw the gems and minerals exhibit. We tried to lunch at Park Chalet but there was too long of a wait. Instead I suggested Shanghai Dumpling King. No one else had been before, and they all liked the food very much. The service was spotty and awkward. There was a line out the door when we arrived, but luckily the large table at the entrance was empty and we got it. Green onion pancake, pan-fried bbq pork buns, steamed buns with condensed milk, various dumplings, combination chow mein, steamed rice, hot tea, water. Return to Shotwell House. Nap. I'm now able to use Google Chrome for UCSF webmail instead of Apple Safari. I also uninstalled Microsoft Silverlight—finally. I had to remove and reinstall my email settings on my iPhone. One annoying thing about the migration is that notification sounds are on by default. I had to turn that off in settings in Webmail as well as on my iPhone.
