Skipped breakfast at home because today is staff appreciation breakfast at work. At the bus stop today a weird thing happened. About when my bus was supposed to arrive a 67 bus arrived. I thought, "That's really weird," since that bus doesn't run on this street, so I shook my head and indicated that I didn't want it. I'm not sure if the driver even saw me, even though I was wearing my headlamp which was lit on the highest setting. But a moment later, I realized that that was my usual 66 bus but the sign was set incorrectly—off by one. How dumb I had been to not realize it sooner, but it really only arrived and passed within a few seconds. Down the street I saw it stopped two blocks away, so I ran for it. I accidentally dropped my new iPhone 16 Pro, went back a few steps, retrieved it, continued running with my wheeled bag behind me, and caught up to the bus. The driver still didn't see me, and it took a few screams—Stop! Stop!—for him to stop and let me on. Onboard he confirmed that he was having trouble with the sign ("…still trying to figure it out…") and I explained that I didn't know his was the correct bus. I'm not sure if he knew I ran two blocks, but I was out of breath and just needed to sit and catch it. When I alighted, he apologized, and I did not make a big deal of it. I continued on to work and the rest of the trip was uneventful. I dropped my stuff off in the office then visited the staff appreciation breakfast. Still in the first half of the seventh hour of the day, it wasn't too crowded. Scrambled eggs, one medium-sized pork sausage link, deep-fried potatoes, mandarin, and a very cute holiday cookie (mine was a snowperson). Coffee to drink. I did not see orange juice or tea, but I presume there was tea somewhere. The portion sizes are not generous, and there seemed to be fewer choices than previous years, but the sincerity of the servers and staff running the event seemed genuine. Part of the dining room was open, but since I was alone I just took the food back to my desk. The food was lukewarm, and wasn't easily reheatable, but it didn't matter because it's all eaten within a few minutes anyway. Made live a new block on all news pages to encourage faculty and staff to submit news items via the new news and social media submission form. Edited the transcript of yesterday's town hall. Previously we used Otter to do this, but now Zoom has auto-transcribe and transcript editing features that seem new to me. Quick lunch from Panda Express: three crab rangoons with sauce. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Mount Zion. Transcribed all day. Medical appointment. UCSF shuttle from Mount Zion to Parnassus. Katherine and I met with Marc V and Alisha R from UCSF Office of Communications. Finished transcribing and posted the video to YouTube. Team meeting with Katherine and Suzan. Finished building the new year message; tested it in Email on Acid and found some issues to resolve. Walked and rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: rigatoni with romesco, basil, and peas; hot water. Dessert: we shared a frosted snowman cookie from staff appreciation breakfast. We wrote Christmas cards. We watched various YouTube videos. Patrick went to bed. I washed dishes. Shopped online at Weee! which is recently new to us. It's "America's largest online Asian supermarket."
