Patrick woke me at 5:00 a.m. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, toasted and sliced almonds, golden raisins, diced half banana; hot water. Walked and rode Muni to UCSF Mission Bay: 1 hour 15 minutes. Worked all day at a School of Pharmacy event: In Tribute to Excellence: The Pioneering Contributions of Les Benet: A Symposium in Honor of Leslie Z. Benet, PhD. I arrived at 8 a.m. Les is one of our most accomplished scientists, and the symposium was a mix of scientific talks and fond memories of people in his life giving thanks and tribute. It was Les's 87th birthday, too. Brian C from ETS worked cameras and in-room audio-video. I advanced slides when needed. One time I pressed the button for the next slide and the result was seemingly as though the button was held down—far too many slides advanced. After that we switched to a backup method that wasn't made by Logitech. Boxed lunch: roast beef sandwich with lettuce, tomato, mayo, and mustard; orzo salad with sundried tomatoes; chocolate chip cookie, flavored sparkling water. I ate outside with Suzan, who took the jalapeno potato chips I had no choice in receiving. In the afternoon the building's fire alarm sounded, and within a few minutes the entire room evacuated the building for about 20 minutes or so before we were permitted to return. Later the fire alarm sounded again briefly, but everyone seemed to ignore it since we were near the end of the program, and no one required us to evacuate. Frances performed an operetta that she wrote, and it was funny, charming, and impressive. Small bites at the reception: I had meatballs, tiny summer rolls with spicy dipping sauce, cheddar cheese and sliced baguette, flavored sparkling water—all delicious. After the event ended at 6:30 p.m. we spent over an hour cleaning: disassembling balloon creations, tables, and photo backdrops; storing tables and chairs; collecting trash; saving leftover food; and helping guests find lost items. During the event some members of the UCSF community stole food, and there was seemingly no good way to stop them. Walked and rode Muni home: 1 hour 20 minutes. Late meal: Amy's enchilada from frozen. (The box says enchilada but there were dos enchiladas.) Side of tortilla strips. Water. To bed.
