Sun Oct 1, 2017
Breakfast at home with Patrick: Patrick prepared egg scramble with smoked gouda, parmesan, and dill; sausage patties; hash browns; pita (which didn't fit exactly but we needed to use it); hot earl gray tea with milk. Continued obscuring logos. (See September 14.) Recharge Medical work: editing. Rode UberX to the Castro with Patrick. Attended the Castro Street Fair. Encountered Keith H then later Dan F and chatted with each for a bit. We ate fair food: fried chicken strips and garlic fries, La Croix flavored sparkling water. We made a small purchase at Cliff's Variety. We ended the day's outing with mojitos at Beaux watching gogo dancers perform. Rode UberX home with Patrick. Patrick napped while I continued Recharge Medical work: editing. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Patxi's Pizza via Grubhub: sausage, mushroom, and red onion 10-inch. Drinks: La Croix flavored sparkling water. Dessert: we split a packaged brownie and paired it with Humphrey Slocombe honey graham ice cream. I watched s1:e1 of Will and Grace (original), then Patrick and I watched s1:e3. Did some catching up on journaling.

Breakfast at home: one very large asian pear, three sausage links, 8 ounces of milk, two pints of hot water. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Content work: estimated annual cost of attendance page for Cindy, co-curriculm page for Megan and Cindy. Lunch at Yum Yum Hunan: beef with mushroom over brown rice, egg roll, hot and sour soup, hot tea. My fortune: Drastic means are not as necessary as you think. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. PharmD website meeting. Worked from the library. Continued content work from earlier today. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: our last Green Chef meal: Green Chef cilantro mojo steak (quinoa with citrus-pickled carrots and black beans). As I think I mentioned before, Patrick has switched from Green Chef to Good Eggs because the meals are simpler to prepare and because he can combine a grocery order with meal orders, and you can't do that with Green Chef. Also, the produce from Good Eggs is always quite excellent. Dessert: one Little Bee Baking almond macaroon each—heavenly and highly recommended. Watched s1:e2 of Star Trek: Discovery: "Battle at the Binary Stars" on CBS All Access with Patrick. We like it. Prepared old paper receipts for shredding and others for archiving. I received a roll of 3M 3311 silver aluminum foil tape for obscuring logos and continued that work on our General Electric microwave oven and our Oster wine opener. The tape works well.

Caught up on journaling. Finally backfilled entries dating to July then published. Patrick prepared breakfast: we each had a veggie scramble, one slice of buttered toast, two sausage links, and a small side of mixed greens. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. 1-on-1 with Eric. Followup with Rebecca M and Josh S about the orgchart and web pages with Josh's name. Met with Marisa and James F over Zoom to review remaining issues about the Experiential Education website. Web edits and custom styling for Megan and Cindy: Co-curriculum Program. Made some changes to the Complex Biological Systems page for Rebecca B. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus, meeting and/or chatting with Angela K, Pasang S, Jeff B, and others. Late lunch to go from Panda Express: panda bowl with fried rice and orange chicken; two veggie spring rolls, no sauce. Ate it during today's Town Hall. To drink: water from my water bottle. Worked at the library. Activated the Faculty Resources one-page microsite for Liana. Identity retheme work and other styling. Rode Uber Pool home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Good Eggs farro fried "rice" with mushrooms, baby spinach, and pea shoots except the farro was missing in the delivery so Patrick used white rice; san pell. Watched Will and Grace (2017) s1:e1 on Hulu with Patrick. Late snack: seaweed snack and fortune cookie from lunch. My fortune: Your love life will be happy and harmonious.
Wed Oct 4, 2017
Patrick prepared breakfast: oatmeal with fixins, sausage patty, orange juice. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Sprint standup. Calendar management. Met with Eric to discuss universal feedback. The plan is to add a link called Report a Problem in the footer. Mid-morning snack: leftovers from Yum Yum Hunan. Lunch at desk: leftovers from last night. Encountered a problem in which the left sidebar in Sublime Text 2 became completely black after attempting to increase the font size of the sidebar text. I realized that my Default.sublime-theme file in Sublime Text 2 > Packages > Theme - Default had become corrupted. I attempted to restore from Time Machine, but it was unresponsive. I attempted to restore from CrashPlan and realized that I had excluded most folders in ~/Library. I was able to restore the file from my old iMac, and this resolved the problem. Pair coding with Eric: resolved a problem with inconsistent dates on category pages like /news/research, added Report a Problem. I adjusted my CrashPlan settings so that it would cover everything in ~/Library/Application Support. Rode UberX to the Castro. Dinner at La Mediteranee with Patrick and Mom Ryan: avgolemono soup for all, chicken kebob plate (two skewers over rice pilaf) for Mom Ryan, fillo dough specialties plate for Patrick (one each of grecian spinach and feta, chicken cilicia, levantine meat tart, and cheese karni), and chicken pomegranate with rice pilaf for me. For dessert, we shared one Heavenly Trio (baklava, datil amandra, and chocolate mousse). Moroccan mint hot tea and water for all. I tried ordering a multi-stop Uber ride, but the instructions they provided did not match what my screen looked like. I switched to Lyft and was able to set up a multi-stop ride within a few minutes. We got Mom Ryan home before returning home ourselves. Caught up on a few issues from work before I forgot about them. Prepped for doing Recharge Medical work. Started watching Ryan Hamilton: Happy Face on Netflix instant watch.
Thu Oct 5, 2017
Breakfast: one very large asian pear, one pint of hot water. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Along the way, I continued watching Ryan Hamilton: Happy Face on Netflix downloaded video. Breakfast part 2: ham, egg, and cheddar on english muffin; water. Sprint standup. Chatted with Eric and James H about navigation and its behavior. We agreed to change our sites' primary nav to be click to expose menu and no longer to expose menu on hover along with a bunch of other nav changes. Identity retheme work. Completed tasks that I was unable to do when my Adobe license went missing for 10 days. Lunch: leftovers at desk while finishing Ryan Hamilton: Happy Face on Netflix downloaded video—very funny; I enjoyed it. Met with Susie and Eric to propose my idea for School of Pharmacy universal navigation on all our sites to help people jump from site to site more easily. UFD mini-retro meeting. Identity retheme work and task followup. Chatted with Michelle A about her lab website and the SMDC website builds. Rode Uber Pool home. Began rewatching Stranger Things s1:e7 "The Bathtub" via downloaded Netflix on my iPhone 6 Plus. Dinner at home with Patrick: Good Eggs roasted chicken salad with bacon and yogurt ranch dressing. Watched Will and Grace (1998) s1:e4 on Hulu with Patrick. Finished rewatching Stranger Things s1:e7 "The Bathtub" via downloaded Netflix on my MacBook Pro. Packed for vacation. Completed some legal paperwork.
Fri Oct 6, 2017
Vacation begins. Breakfast at home: one small pear and leftovers from last night. Mailed a letter. Finished packing. Sam drove us to SFO. Alaska Airlines (SkyWest) flight 3374 from SFO to SNA. He dropped us at the International Terminal because signs directed us there. We automatically went through security successfully before realizing that this terminal didn't have our gate. No one through security checked that we were in the right place, which doesn't make me feel all that secure. After checking with some airport employees we exited International Terminal and walked 10 minutes to Terminal 2. Found our gate. I hunted for food while Patrick rested. I got vanilla yogurt and sparkling water for Patrick, a ham and havarti sandwich and Vitamin Water Zero for me. I ate half the sandwich which was good but not great. I drank a few ounces of the Vitamin Water Zero before realizing it had stevia in it, which causes serious problems with my digestive system. I threw the rest away. I saved the other half of the sandwich. We boarded. The flight is uneventful except for a 20-minute delay imposed by the tower before we could depart due to heavy runway traffic. We sat in Premium Class seats 8D and 8E which had plenty of legroom for Patrick. We had to load our small carryons sideways in the overhead bins. The plane seemed very clean except for my tray table which had coffee stains that I cleaned with a wet wipe. Service was very good. We were each given a complimentary snack box which included roasted almonds, a fig bar, and gummi bears; all tasty. Patrick had ginger ale, I had iced water. We rewatched Stranger Things s1:e8 on Netflix downloaded video on my iPhone 6 Plus in preparation for the new season starting in about a month. At SNA it took a long time getting UberX to the DoubleTree Suites by Hilton Anaheim Resort Convention Center and with fairly heavy traffic the drive took 45 minutes to travel 15 miles. Checked in to room 243 for five nights. We encountered a problem with our room keys not working and had to return to the front desk to resolve it. We began to unpack. Shortly afterwards housekeeping arrived to remove the feather and down bedding due to my allergy. Our room has two queen beds, and it took her about 20 minutes. The room also meets Patrick's ventilation requirements—no vent blowing directly upon the sleeping area. Rode UberX to Downtown Disney. Walked to AMC Downtown Disney 12. Along the way we encountered a good, entertaining swing band called The Fresh Rhythm (formerly Five Got Rhythm) and stopped to listen to the last three songs of their 6:00 pm set. We looked at the menu at the theatre then tried to eat at Tortilla Jo's but wait time for two persons was one hour so we ate at Taqueria instead. In the movie theatre we saw Blade Runner 2049 in 2D IMAX, and I loved it. Just the right balance of respect for the original(s) and new ground to cover, opening new and interesting ways to think about how technology integrates with our lives and the concepts of humans becoming more machine and machines becoming more human. The settings, costumes, locations, cinematography, special effects, editing, and acting were all excellent. After the film it took a long time getting UberX; I tried twice and canceled twice seemingly due to drivers too far away or stuck in traffic that was not moving. I switched to Lyft and got a ride faster than our UberX estimate. Patrick slept while I wrote in my journal. I realized late at night that the ice machine adjacent to room 243 can seem very loud, but it happened only once over a few hours on a Friday night. To bed.
Sat Oct 7, 2017
Anaheim vacation day 2 of 5. Hotel gym with Patrick for the 20th annual Gay Days Anaheim. The event started yesterday. Saturday the event visits Disneyland; Sunday the event visits California Adventure. Rode UberX to Disneyland main gate dropoff. Hard to find a place to eat with little line between 8:30 and 9:00 so we walked deeper into the park. Late breakfast at Rancho del Zocalo: beef fajitas breakfast plate: eggs, beans, beef, spanish rice, two tortillas. To drink: coffee and orange juice. Explored everything nearby in Frontierland: Dia de los Muertos displays related to the forthcoming Coco film release, shops, the shooting gallery. We also listened to a lively band called Silver Dollar Six playing atop the Golden Horseshoe. Encountered Jose JC, Jesse, Gabriel, and ?. We learned that they chose to stay at Hotel Melange due to its 24-hour hot tub and pool. We rafted to Tom Sawyer Island then explored caves, a floating bridge, and a fort. Along the way we encountered Captain Jack Sparrow leading a tour group across the island. Returned to the mainland. We explored shops in New Orleans Square and chatted with a cast member about Club 33 and how the door had moved because too many people were knocking on the previous door. We stood in line at the Enchanted Tiki Room a few minutes before abandoning it. We visited Refreshment Corner (formerly Coke Corner) and then got a chocolate root beer float at the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor and consumed it while seated at a table at Jolly Holiday. Explored shops on the right side of Main Street while working our way towards the entrance. Visited Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln. Rode the train to Tomorrowland. Bought and drank water. Walked back to the main entrance. Walked to Downtown Disney to make restaurant reservations and visit the Gay Days Info Center. Rode UberX to the DoubleTree. Nap. Snack: roasted, salted almonds. Rode UberX to Disneyland main gate. Upon entering we encountered the start of a parade: Mickey's Soundsational Parade. We were funneled along with many others through an outdoor passageway behind the Main Street shops in an area I had never seen before, and I was excited because this was a new experience for me at Disneyland. We emerged next to the First Aid station near the hub and continued watching the parade from a distance. During the parade a cast member cleared the area in which we were standing because someone had identified a large spider sitting in its web high above our heads. We enjoyed the parade, and continued watching it until it ended. Patrick says Aladdin blew him a kiss. We waited a few minutes for the crowd to leave, then wandered looking for food. We had a hard time due to being turned away or very long lines, trying at Cafe Orleans, Bengal Barbecue, Carnation Cafe. We decided to just try to eat later. Snack: we shared a fig bar we had saved from our flight. We rode the Jungle Cruise, which is a different experience at night than day. We tried again at Cafe Orleans but again were turned away. Dinner at French Market: jambalaya and potato roll for Patrick, cajun meatloaf for me, non-alcoholic mint juleps for both: $40.90. We were forced to share a table with someone because there were no other available tables. We finished eating as nearby Fantasmic! began, and since foot traffic was problematic to leave due to heavy crowds, we explored Critter Country and Hungry Bear Restaurant which had closed earlier but the dining deck was still accessible via the rear stairway. We waited in front of the Haunted Mansion for Fantasmic! crowds to clear. We walked through Adventureland then across the hub to Tomorrowland. Star Tours: Path of the Jedi was only a 12 minute wait, so we did that. I thought it was terrible, a condensed version of Star Wars cinematic history frequently out of timeline order. It was just a mishmash of franchise concepts blended together with no cohesiveness. During parts of the film when we observed someone traveling through space, they engaged blower fans above our heads to give us the sense of wind blowing in our faces. How does that make sense? Now tired, we rode the Monorail to Disneyland Hotel, riding in the last car. Rode UberX to the DoubleTree. To bed around midnight.
Sun Oct 8, 2017
Anaheim vacation day 3 of 5. Gay Days Anaheim day 3 of 3 (California Adventure). Visited the hotel gym with Patrick but three persons occupied it and we considered that full since the room is such a small one. Breakfast at the hotel: oatmeal with fixins for Patrick; eggs, hash browns, and sausage for me. Rye toast for both. Rode UberX to Disneyland Resort main gate. Entered California Adventure. Browsed in shops. Patrick took a photo of a sculpture of the Headless Horseman. At the Hollywood Backlot Stage we caught the last two measures of the last song by the Los Angeles Gay Freedom Band, which was excellent. At the Sunset Showcase Theater we enjoyed a 3-D Thor: Ragnarok exclusive sneak peek. At the Hollywood Backlot stage we watched the Fox Dance Company from Calgary perform two numbers. Explored shops and investigated then abandoned experiences that were more for kids. Walked past Guardians of the Galaxy—Mission: BREAKOUT! then into A Bug's Land then Cars Land, then the food area with the Karl Strauss Beer Truck. We walked the wrong way through the Bakery Tour hosted by Boudin Bakery due to poor signage, receiving our free sample of bread at the end instead of the start. Passed the Golden Vine Winery. Near The Little Mermaid—Ariel's Undersea Adventure we encountered Bill K and met Frank and Steve, and chatted briefly while watching the Green Army Men perform a fun drumming comedy routine. Crossed the bridge at Ariel's Grotto, walked past the California Screamin' roller coaster and along the Games of the Boardwalk where we rested on a bench. We continued to Plaza de la Familia to rest and to listen to a 40-minute set by Mariachi Espectacular, a terrific mariachi band. We visited a great exhibit advertising the film Coco. Near Grizzly River Run we encountered and chatted briefly with Ray, Jeremy, Jay, and Alan. Rode the streetcar a short distance. Tried to find food we liked without a long line in the sun and without overly crowded table seating, failed many times before having a late lunch at Downtown Disney's Earl of Sandwich: hot chicken avocado and bacon sandwich for Patrick, caesar chicken wrap for me, iced tea for both. Walked to the Grand Californian. Rode Lyft back to the DoubleTree. Nap. Rode Lyft to the Downtown Disney Pickup/Dropoff location. Monorail to Tomorrowland. Rode and enjoyed the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage. Tried to visit Star Wars Launch Bay only to discover that it had closed for the day less than an hour ago. Browsed in the Star Wars shop. Walked to the area near It's a Small World and waited for the fireworks show "Remember… Dreams Come True" to begin. The show was canceled due to poor weather conditions; the sky was quite cloudy with a very slight breeze. In place of fireworks, Disneyland projected onto It's a Small World a short, entertaining film with the same theme. (But what was that train at the end of it? And why finish with the train?) Walked to the Grand Californian. Rode Lyft back to the DoubleTree. To bed around midnight. Today we decided to begin using Lyft instead of Uber for our transit in this area because of too many problems encountered with Uber. For example, Lyft is clearer with respect to specifying pickup points. The most recent Uber problem was that when I specified the Grand Californian as a pickup point it marked my location correctly before I committed to the trip, but when the driver was on approach it put the pin on Disneyland Drive instead of in the driveway for the hotel, and by this it asks us to walk to Disneyland Drive for the pickup. There's nowhere safe to perform a pickup on Disneyland Drive. The driver didn't know to turn in to the hotel driveway, there was too little time for me to contact the driver to explain, and after the driver missed the turn into the driveway I canceled the ride and requested a refund. Lyft doesn't seem to have the same problem.
Mon Oct 9, 2017
Anaheim vacation day 4 of 5. Rode Lyft to Downtown Disney. Breakfast at Brennan's Jazz Kitchen Express: one order of four beignets and coffee with chicory for Patrick, one breakfast sandwich and hot chocolate for me. Rode the Monorail to Tomorrowland. Went to the Indiana Jones ride to acquire fastpasses. Shopping: Patrick bought a baseball cap at a shop in Adventureland across from Aladdin's Oasis. We walked through Fantasyland then did the Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough. Patrick bought popcorn somewhere in Fantasyland. We walked to Tomorrowland and acquired fastpasses for Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy. We visited Star Wars Launch Bay. At Tomorrowland Terrace we shared a light meal: burger and fries and water while watching kids and performers in a Jedi training exercise/show. We rode Space Mountain: Ghost Galaxy. Afterwards we shared an Honest Tea from a snack cart outside of Pizza Port. We decided to eat and shared a light meal at Pizza Port: one cheese pizza slice with a small bottled water. Rode Lyft from the Grand Californian to the DoubleTree to rest, refresh, and change to warmer clothes. Rode Lyft to the Grand Californian. Walked to the Downtown Disney Live! stage to see the new trailer preview of The Last Jedi, which was timed around 6:30 pm to coincide with its debut during halftime of some football game today. Patrick checked the game status at ESPN Zone and determined that we had some time to kill before halftime, so we visited Jamba Juice for a greens n' ginger medium. We returned to the Live! stage. Lots of people had gathered for the event, and they gave away lighted light sabers to kids. Halftime arrived, and they played the trailer for The Last Jedi twice in a row. Satisfied, we departed, taking the Monorail to Tomorrowland. Walked to Fantasyland and rode Mr. Toad's Wild Ride and Pinocchio's Daring Journey. Walked to New Orleans Square, arriving early for our 9:10 pm reservation. We waited by the Mint Julep Bar. Dinner at Blue Bayou: we each started with a cup of gumbo with andouille sausage and tasso ham and Louisiana popcorn rice. Entrees: for Patrick: broiled filet mignon and petite lobster tail with au gratin potatoes, béarnaise sauce, and a very small side of vegetables; for me: rib-eye steak with a very small side of vegetables and a side of white cheddar and smoked gouda mac and cheese. To drink: Perrier for both. Dessert: 8-layer chocolate hazelnut cake with raspberry sauce and macaron. Rode Lyft to the DoubleTree.
Tue Oct 10, 2017
Anaheim vacation day 5 of 5. Rode Lyft to Disneyland main gate for Magic Morning: an early admission option. We were surprised to find that only Fantasyland and Tomorrowland were open early. We rode Star Tours, which was new to both of us. No longer is the Paul Reubens robot the driver; now it's C3PO. We tried to ride the Matterhorn but found the line already longer than we wanted. Instead we waited 10 minutes at the entrance to Frontierland for it to open at 8:00 am. We were hoping to obtain fastpasses for Pirates of the Carribean only to discover that they did not have fastpasses for this ride, so we rode it. Next we rode the Haunted Mansion, which had a Nightmare Before Christmas theme that neither of us had seen before. With three big rides under our belts in under 90 minutes we felt free enough to breakfast somewhat leisurely at Carnation Cafe where we waited about 30 mins for breakfast, spending the wait time in nearby shops or seated in the foyer. Coffee and Oscar's Choice for both: eggs medium with potatoes and bacon and sourdough toast for Patrick, eggs over easy with potatoes and bacon and english muffin for me. We next wanted a slower ride to permit our food to digest, so we got fastpasses for the Matterhorn then rode Snow White's Scary Adventures before riding the Matterhorn. In New Orleans Square we watched a performance by a band called Jambalaya Jazz. We got drinks and watched a show by the Laughing Stock Company at the Golden Horseshoe: vanilla ice cream root beer float for Patrick, tap water for me. In the restroom near Rancho del Zocalo I changed from warm to cool clothes. We tried to ride Splash Mountain but found it closed. We decided to be done with Disneyland for this trip and went to California Adventure. We got fastpasses for Soarin' Over the World. At Plaza de Familia we ate a late lunch from Paradise Garden Grill: for Patrick: broiled chicken mole verde with rice, beans, and tortillas and agua de jamaica slush (hibiscus). For me: beef tacos and bottled water. The mariachi band was the same one we heard yesterday (or was it Sunday?) with a few different songs. Rode Soarin' Over the World using fastpasses. Tried to ride Guardians of the Galaxy and Radiator Springs but both had lines too long and either the fastpass line was too long or no longer available. Rode California Screamin'. Dinner at Brennan's Jazz Kitchen, sitting inside near the piano with Kirk Andrés Wilson (kirkandre.com), whose performance we very much enjoyed.
Wed Oct 11, 2017
San Diego vacation day 1 of 5. Breakfast: Before I awoke Patrick got a free coffee from the kitchen downstairs because the hotel's cafe had opened late. A little later he revisited the café and got a blueberry muffin and a cherry danish. I ate leftovers with leftover iced tea. Packed. Checked out and dropped our bags for storage at the bellhop. Rode Lyft to Downtown Disney. Watched Kingsmen: The Golden Circle at AMC Downtown Disney 12. Lunch at Tortilla Jo's: For Patrick: two-item combo: crispy chicken taco, pork tamale, agua fresca tamarindo. For me: Tacos Governador (two house made corn tortilla filled with Mexican shrimp, pico de gallo, Monterey Jack cheese and jalapeno slaw), iced tea. Rode Lyft to the DoubleTree. Picked up our luggage. Rode Lyft to ARTIC (Anaheim Regional Transportation Intermodal Center). Waited about 30 minutes for our train to arrive. Boarded the business class car—first car behind the engine. The upper floor did not have two empty and adjacent seats, so we sat on the lower floor. Rode the 4:47 pm Amtrak Surfliner from Anaheim (ANA) south one way to San Diego Old Town (OLT). Our ticket said it was train 582 but the displays at the station said it was train 782—this was very confusing. The train ride is smooth. In business class we received complimentary snacks and drinks, including white (chardonnay) or red (cabernet) wine. Patrick chose water. I chose the cabernet (Robert Mondavi Woodbridge, 2016). Snacks included: sea salt pita chips and hummus, roasted and salted almonds and cashews with cranberries, mini chocolate chip cookies, and a piece of salt water taffy. The train ride was spectacular, with much of the journey alongside the ocean with grand views. We watched the sunset over the Pacific at Solana Beach. We arrived at Old Town around 6:45 pm. Rode Lyft to Alcazar Court. Dinner at Urban Mo's with Patrick: skinny chick burger and kick ass margarita (sauza commemorativo, triple sec, blue curacao, sweet and sour, splash of orange juice, lemon-lime soda) for Patrick, carnitas quesadilla and pink flamingo (svedka strawberry lemonade, pink lemonade, soda water) for me. Watched Superstore s3:e2 on Hulu with Patrick.
Thu Oct 12, 2017
San Diego vacation day 2 of 5. Slept in. Breakfast at Fig Tree Cafe: we shared coffee, fresh-squeezed orange juice, a house-made lobster and blue crab cake eggs benedict with sliced avocado and tomato, and fresas con crema pancakes (mexican-style strawberry cream and fresh strawberries). They did the pancakes like Patrick likes—baked in and without fresh fruit on top. Brought leftovers back to Alcazar Court. Grocery shopping at Whole Foods. Patrick rested while I browsed free periodicals from a rack at Whole Foods and investigated things to do. Chatted briefly over FaceTime with Tina and made plans to meet later. Rode Lyft to Tina's place, our first time to this address. She served us rose and pistachios as a prelude to dinner at Dunedin North Park aka DNP, a restaurant specializing in burgers in the style of New Zealand. Drinks: clericot sangria for Tina (house cabernet, cantaloupe, watermelon, apples, grapes, pomegranate); peach basil sangria (pinot grigio, fresh peaches, basil, champagne) for Patrick; lavender blueberry lemonade for me. To start we shared a half-half order of large fries (half sweet: sweet potato with sea salt and blue cheese, half fatty: flat steak fries with house seasoning). Mains: hogs and heffers for Patrick (organic grass-fed beef, bacon, avocado, edam cheese, LTO); chicken pot pie for Tina (puff pastry, slow-roasted pulled chicken, savory bread pudding); lil bitties for me (organic grass-fed beef sliders, onion mayo, pickle relish, cheddar cheese). Tina and I played a little of Agent A and Monument Valley 2 on my iPad Pro. Tina departs.
Fri Oct 13, 2017
San Diego vacation day 3 of 5. We had plans to breakfast with waffles and sausage but abandoned them due to timing required for us to switch from 3802 (our reservation) to 3804 (Tina's reservation). Patrick and I brought back pastries and petit fours (pistachio, chocolate marzipan, lemon almond) from Bread and Cie, and we ate those with Tina and coffee. Tentatively planned the rest of the vacation. Switched units from 3802 to 3804. Tina did laundry, and we relaxed in 3804. Late lunch at Alcazar Court with Patrick and Tina: leftover fries, quesadilla, and slider; petit fours. Tina took us to Eclipse Chocolate (619-578-2984, 2145 Fern Street) where we met Daniel, Christina, Jessica, Will, and server Elise and enjoyed a chocolate brownie sundae and an almond cake. Tina and Patrick also had coffee. Back to Tina's place. I helped Tina fix a jammed zipper on a black puffy jacket. We rode Uber via Tina to dinner at Trust. Drinks: rosé for Tina and me, sangiovese for Patrick. We shared: baby gem salad, baja striped bass crudo, shrimp and sausage, hush puppies, extra side of sliced levain, lobster risotto. For dessert: profiteroles and an order of coffee for Tina. We each rode Uber/Lyft to our respective places.
Sat Oct 14, 2017
San Diego vacation day 4 of 5. Slept in. Breakfast at Alcazar Court with Patrick: leftovers. Errands and shopping: Walgreens, Village Hat Shop, Index Urban travel supplies. Rested at Alcazar Court. Tina came over and drove us to The Lot at Liberty Station. Light snacks and drinks: proscuitto and burrata flatbread, farmers market green salad, blueberry lemonade for Tina, margarita for Patrick, sangria for me. Afterwards we saw the 3:30 pm showing of Blade Runner 2049. Tina drove us to Alcazar Court. She had planned to find a parking space, but we hadn't heard from her over an hour later after trying to reach her every way we could. Not sure whether to worry or not, Patrick and I walked to dinner at Taste of Thai: gaeng mussaman kai (chicken curry), shrimp pad see-yew, hot tea for me, thai iced tea for Patrick. Walked to Alcazar Court.
Sun Oct 15, 2017
San Diego vacation day 5 of 5. I awoke to learn that Tina was fine. Breakfast at Alcazar Court with Patrick: Patrick prepared waffles and sausage. Tina comes over. We walked in Hillcrest, stopping at Whole Foods for water and juice shots that turned out far more gingery than we had expected. Rode Lyft to the Hillcrest Farmer's Market, which we browsed. I bought a fistful of Red Dragon Somerdale mustard-seed cheese and a sweet iced tea. We bought bread products and sweets from Prager Brothers Artisan Breads. Rode UberX to Alcazar Court. Snacked on pretzels, chocolate chip cookies, cheese. We visited the Puzzalarium to experience an interactive game / escape room called The Parlor. Back at Alcazar Court, Tina prepared a snack: toast with Red Dragon Somerdale mustard-seed cheese topped with sliced seedless grapes. We opened a bottle of prosecco and drank that with nectarine slices in the glass. Later Tina prepared chicken fried rice and cherry tomatoes with a variety of ingredients we had collected. Tina went home. Patrick and I went to a 7:00 pm showing of Young Frankenstein at Cinema Under the Stars.
Mon Oct 16, 2017
Breakfast at Alcazar Court with Patrick: leftovers. Packed and rested. Checked out of Alcazar Court, rode Lyft to Tina's place, rested. Late lunch at Dunedin with Tina and Patrick. Rode Lyft to San Diego International Airport with Patrick for a 5:25 pm Virgin America flight from San Diego (SAN) to San Francisco (SFO). We sat in Main Cabin Select and enjoyed free prosecco and snacks. Sam gave us a ride home. Found ash and other dirt particles by my window which was left open an inch in order to let our orchids breathe while we were gone, vacuumed it and other floor areas that needed it. Unpacked. Watered the orchids.
Tue Oct 17, 2017
First day at work following vacation to Anaheim and San Diego. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. I brought an N95 particulate mask to work with me but did not wear it for the ride, but I almost immediately found myself coughing occasionally so I wore it for several hours today as the air quality changed from yellow (moderate) to orange (unhealthy for sensitive groups) to red (unhealthy). Forwarded a phishing attempt to IT security. Calendar management. Caught up on email. Submitted a resource email account request for Marisa. Completed a logo request from Mandy M. Followup with Scott N about a question about secure email (aka possible phishing attempt). Followup with Esther S about copying my content telling people how to report spams and scams. Followup with Liana and Denetra about the Staff Wellness Group website, now with Susie and Eric for approval. Responded to a WeID request from Mike S. Lunch from The View Cafe: deli case tempura shrimp sushi, water from my water bottle. Made an update to the curriculum chart for Susie. Updated all local databases and reverted modules as directed by James H in preparation for styling work. Identity retheme styling following James H's menu and hero image adjustments. We're switching our primary nav so that instead of revealing menus on hover they reveal upon click. Dinner at home with Patrick: Trader Joe's frozen pizza with enhancements, san pell. Sewing projects: repaired two items that had become broken. Successfully upgraded MAMP PRO from 4.2 to 4.2.1. Published vacation entries for my journal.
Wed Oct 18, 2017
Breakfast: Noah's Bagels greek yogurt cherry pastry, 8 ounces of milk. Rode Uber Pool to UCSF Laurel Heights. Removed the alt menu from PharmD. Microsites followup with Staff Wellness Group, Arkin/SMDC, and Calpoison. Lunch to go from Noah's Bagels: chicken club on sourdough, potato salad, pickle slice; ate in the courtyard.
