Breakfast at home: granola with fresh, diced peach; unsweetened soy milk. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Filed my timesheet. Web edits for Joel: orientation dates. Followup with recent grad KF about unexpected email account closure. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Sprint standup. Comm team meeting. Team lunch celebrating two birthdays. We tried to get in at Pig and Whistle but it was packed with people watching FIFA World Cup, USA versus Belgium. I suggested The Corner Store, only a block away, and the server managed to fit us indoors where we could watch the game. Kevin, Paula, and Susan H each had the burger; David and I each had the fried green tomato and burrata sandwich; Susie had the special: belgian waffle and fried chicken (themed along with the World Cup game), Eric had the fried chicken sandwich. We watched nearly the entire game, and it was 0 to 0 after 90 minutes, and that's when we left. (Susie had left a little before that.) Web edits for Renslo. Filed a request with ITFS for Don K. Discovered that our team's social media Chatter group was autoarchived due to inactivity, notified Eric and Paula. Listserv management: rotation. Reviewed sample landing page graphics for pharmchem from Robin. Followup with Burton O about student headshots and photobooks. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Packed.
Wed Jul 2, 2014
Breakfast from The View Cafe: egg and cheddar on english muffin, small coffee with cream: about $4. Standup meeting. Listserv management: pharmacy residency specialities. Drupal work: reported problem paste does nothing in asana. Followup with Kamran H, new project coordinator on Shuvo's team. Listserv management. Met with Susie and Paula to review Office of the Dean and other pages. Forgot to eat lunch. Drupal issue followup: magnifying glass icon on gallery thumbs. More listserv management. Surprise birthday party for Michelle: I ate two pieces of chocolate cake. More listserv management. Posted updated fall draft schedules for Lucia. Pharmchem current web edits for Alma and Millo. Jazzee followup. Dinner at Cupola with Danny, Drew, and Phil. Patrick canceled earlier today, Romy canceled 15 minutes before the dinner time, Richard L never showed and never declined the invitation, and everyone else was 10 minutes late. We had a bottle of prosecco and, separately, two purees to pour in: prickly pear and blood orange (prosecco per la tavola, $38.00). Phil and Drew both liked the prosecco on its own. We ordered La Festa Di Tutte Le Feste (the feast of all feasts) for the table: $32 per person. Antipasti: grilled peaches with pickled red onions and hazelnuts ($4.75); zucchini, almonds, basil, mint, lemon ($4.50); marinated olives, garlic, rosemary ($4.75); seasoned corn off the cob (not on the online menu, so I don't have a price, but it would be in the area of $5); warm pulled-to-order mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, basil, olive oil ($13.00); salad of baby kale, currants, toasted pistachios, ricotta salata, orange ($9.75); cavatelli with grilled lamb, artichoke hearts, and mint ($18.00); torn pasta handkerchiefs: simple tomato sauce, basil, garlic crumbs ($17.00); italian fried chicken "pollo fritto": mary’s herb-marinated half chicken, fennel, meyer lemon, fried onions ($22.00); 2 halves of pizza: mortadella (mozzarella, grana padano, pistachio, $17.50) and margherita (san marzano tomatoes, housemade fior di latte, basil, olive oil, $15.50). Dessert: tiramisu with espresso anglaise sauce, rum, cocoa ($7.50); housemade spumoni with claret sauce ($6.75). If we had ordered the food a la carte instead of with La Festa, it would have been $128 (not including the prosecco). With La Festa, it was $128 (not including the prosecco). The total (including the prosecco) before tax and tip was about $166. My favorites were the warm mozzarella, fried chicken, handkerchiefs, both pizzas, and the tiramisu. I tasted everything except the olives. Most plates were pretty salty but not unbearably so. I really enjoyed the cherries in the spumoni, but overall this dessert was too sweet. The fried chicken was particularly perfect. If I had to pick one best dish, it would be the fried chicken because it was moist and tender inside while perfectly crunchy outside. In second: the handkerchiefs because I don't know anyplace else that has it. My phone had strangely stopped working, so I couldn't order Uber. Rode Muni F and L home: so unpleasant because of smelly and scary-looking people. After getting home I troubleshot my phone, and it was working again. Finished packing. Listserv management. Calendar management.

Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Breakfast from The View Cafe: egg and cheddar on english muffin, fresh cut fruit. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Standup meeting. Lots of listserv management: adding extras to the jobs list, handling edits from Lucia. Lunch at Beautifull! which has recently completely remodeled. Everything looks new: the interior and exterior, a new color scheme, and a new menu. I had three onigiri for $10.21 after tax: tea-smoked salmon, kale and arame, curry tofu. Of the three, the tea-smoked salmon tasted the best. The kale and arame was a little too soggy, tasted very green. The curry tofu was just alright; tasted great but otherwise nothing exciting. Shopped at Wine Impression, bought two bottles of champagne and a gift bag. Content and styling work in Drupal: getting admissions in shape for review. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Attended Chris C's retirement party in the Lange Room at the library. Met or encountered naika m, alondra m, michael v, lucia, greg couch, brian alldredge. Met Alan C in person for the first time. Among other things, we talked about a restaurant called Spring Deer in Hong Kong, famous for its Peking duck. I gave him a bottle of Charles de Casanove brut in a green jute wine carrier with a John Robshaw notecard (bird). Content and styling work in Drupal. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: sweet corn on the cob, hamburgers with fixins, hot water. Achieved inbox zero at home. Tried new battery-operated heated house slippers by voltheat.com; they work! Did some trip planning.

Sat Jul 12, 2014
Slept in. Accidentally didn't eat all day until early dinner: trumpet mushrooms and spinach with chinese five spice gravy over black sesame seeded steamed white rice, hot water. L train to the Castro. Waited for Patrick, stepping briefly in Toad Hall then Badlands then Lookout, encountered DJ Shawn P who was just starting his set playing mostly house. Patrick met me there for drinks. Patrick was surprised to have been served bourbon on the rocks in a plastic cup that resembled glass but you could easily feel the difference. Shortly thereafter Jenner joined us. We went to Beaux where we encountered Paul (a friend of Joseph) and Anibal. We rode UberX home at 1.5x surge pricing, but with Uber's 25% off summer fares promotion this still turned out to be cheaper than a cab. Sometime today I also troubleshot problems with our wifi. I thought that perhaps our Time Capsule was no longer functioning properly and might need to be replaced, but the issues resolved with some work.
Sun Jul 13, 2014
Breakfast at home with Patrick: spinach and trumpet mushroom scramble, wheat toast with butter, 2 hash browns for me, hot water. Trip planning. Drove with Patrick to the Castro, found and enjoyed newly-free-again street parking after only a few minutes. Lunch at Thai House Express: mint lemonades, papaya salad with shrimp (not spicy), bbq chicken rice plate with sticky rice, ginger vegetables rice place (not spicy): $38.79 after tip. Food and service were very good. While we ate Germany won the World Cup over Argentina 1 to 0 with the staff watching excitedly on a television above the door. Only one other table ate a meal; the place was empty, unlike Forks in which we were interested until we found it was packed with noisy gamewatchers. We walked to M Spa where I made a reservation for later, then to Cafe Flore where we drank large iced chai lattes. Patrick read from a small book. I brought materials for drawing but couldn't muster the creativity and diligence for it. At the cafe I encountered Paul M and, separately, Matthew S. Paul had a friend with him but I cannot recall his name. We later encountered Milos and Jenner walking on Castro Street with a friend of theirs from Paris, said hello before continuing home. Did some font selection work on Danny's forthcoming website. Nap. Dessert at home with Patrick: fresh, cut, chilled orange honeydew—delicious. Finished watching Lincoln (2012) on Netflix DVD with Patrick. We both enjoyed this well-acted portrayal. Edited a few Kauai trip photos. Late meal: leftovers from Thai House Express with extra brown rice from a pouch.

Content and styling work in Drupal. Accidentally didn't eat lunch. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: black valentine heirloom beans with steamed white rice, hot water. Breakfast at home: granola with fresh blueberries and unsweetened soy milk, hot water. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Comm team meeting. Content and styling work in Drupal. Flickr API work. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: herbed roast chicken and new potatoes with steamed green beans. Afterwards I made a cocktail I found on the web with bailey's, kahlua, and grenadine; it was pretty terrible because it clotted but I drank it anyway. Watched Archer "The Honeymooners" on Netflix instant watch with Patrick. Continued editing Kauai trip photos. I received a request from Martin Roldan to join CrowdMedia today, and after some consideration which included reading the terms of service on crowdmedia.co I decided not to join. A 50% cut of the profit seems too high to me, and I don't have photography connections in social media that are significant enough to bring my work even close to popularity in social media. I also don't take newsworthy or stockphotoworthy photos regularly (except for, perhaps, exterior scenes). From a Flickr forum page I found, it seems that CrowdMedia would have access to all my photos, including private photos, which is unsettling. It's also unclear to me if personal photos of people I know at, say, a birthday party, might end up on a billboard somewhere, and I don't want to deal with the privacy issues my friends might have with that. CrowdMedia seems right for photographers who have in their Flickr photostreams only work that others would want to pay for to publish and doesn't want to negotiate rights and pricing for each publisher or use and doesn't mind a third party taking a 50% cut.
Wed Jul 16, 2014
Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Breakfast to go from The View Cafe: breakfast sandwich no meat, fruit cup: about $5, ate at my desk. Content work in Drupal: admissions. Comm team standup. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Finished Flickr API work. Listserv management. Lots of asana task management. Followup with Mike F about Don's old computer equipment. Helped Michelle K with a question about PDF, page sizes, and Excel. Ordered a replacement 30-pin-to-USB cable for Lisa. Installed SassBeautify into Sublime Text 2—nice. Lots of content and styling work in Drupal: admissions, BTS about, main dean's office, removed CP plans, more. Calendar management. Filed a bug (externally) for ckeditor. UberX to Norfolk Street, riding with Peter who was a super fast driver yet also very safe. I took his business card not because I needed a mortgage broker but because if I ever did he seemed really sharp and efficient—my kind of person. The ride turned out to be super cheap: less than $9 from Laurel Heights to Norfolk Street in 11.5 minutes. WTF: Hawaiian Edition at Ted and Emery's: L and L BBQ including malasadas and macarons, many Syndicaters attending. Met Taz, Jeff O, Rohit N, and Sebastien K. Patrick drove us home. Archived Danielle's farewell note to me.
Thu Jul 17, 2014
Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Breakfast at the JCC: egg and cheese breakfast wrap, about $5. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Confirmed that a domain we use for static assets is not expiring at the end of the month. Calendar management. Listserv management. Web edits for Cindy: cleanup references to staffmembers that have recently left. Web update for Kidney Project for Steph. Listserv management. WCWG lunch meeting; I had a grilled chicken sandwich. I stayed at Parnassus while Susie, Eric, and Paula returned to Laurel Heights. Web edits for Cindy: curriculum. Content and styling work in Drupal. Rode Muni to Duboce Park, walked to M Spa. Deep tissue massage at M Spa by Tee (sp?). Dinner at Anchor Oyster Bar (415-431-3990, 579 Castro Street). Patrick and I have never eaten here because whenever we walk by around mealtime there's a fearsome crowd waiting on the sidewalk for what is maybe 20 seats total. Today there were only two names on the waiting list, each with two persons, so we tried our luck and ended up waiting less than 15 minutes before being seated. We are glad we did. We ate a prawn cocktail, a caesar salad (with no seafood), and we shared the small cioppino. A bottle of wine was a third of the bill, but we enjoyed everything. Patrick said the cioppino was five times better than that at Pesce. Service was friendly and efficient. It's a very noisy space, occasionally hard to hear the person across from you. The prices are steep, so if nothing else share the small cioppino. It's worth it.
Fri Jul 18, 2014
Breakfast: oatmeal with blueberries and milk. The bus arrived and left 4 minutes early so I missed it. Rode Muni to UCSF Laurel Heights, took about an hour to get to work. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Calendar management. Answered a question and resolved a broken link for the techreqs. Prepped a content review notice. Content work in Drupal. Updated the pharmchem site to point to a new NMR site. Forgot to eat lunch. Susie and I drove in her car to Mission Bay. We arrived early so I purchased a greek salad ($8.75) and 12-ounce Odwalla carrot juice ($4!) at Cafe Twenty 4 (aka Cafe 24) in Genentech Hall from Chelsea K but did not have time to eat it. Meeting with Susie, John G, and Jeff. Susie drove us back to Laurel Heights. Lunch at desk: greek salad, water. Asana task followup. Content and styling work in Drupal. Sent Cindy urls for staged content for OSACA and OEIS people for her review. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Watched about an hour of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Snack during the film: popcorn from a saucepan with brewer's yeast for Patrick, popcorn from a saucepan with salt and grated sharp cheddar for me, cocktail for me: kahlua, bailey's and milk.
Sat Jul 19, 2014
Began the process to enable two-step verification for one of my Apple IDs. Breakfast: half order of oatmeal with fresh, diced peach and milk. Weight training: door pullups. Shower. We first tried UberX to get to Japantown but it was experiencing 2.0x surge pricing, so we used Sidecar instead. Attended a ramen festival called Ramen Street with Patrick. Was supposed to meet with Emery, Ray, Sebastien, and Steven, but it was too crowded and the lines were poorly organized and way too long. Another event called the J-POP Summit Festival was taking place simultaneously in the same area. We gave up after only a few minutes because it was obvious that we were going to wait in line for at least an hour for a really small bowl. I felt that the planners didn't organize very well. There was no website for the event; only a Facebook page with a poster. The Facebook event had the wrong start time—11 PM instead of 11 AM. There was no map online to the different vendors, ATMs, restrooms. 8 ramen vendors seemingly all in a row meant that everyone wanting to get in line had to crowd into a really small space. There was no way to determine where the end of each line was or for which vendor you might be in line for. We saw only a mass of people with parts of lines here and there. Our backup plan to eat indoors at Japan Center Mall failed; hundreds of others had the same idea at least 20 minutes before we got there. We tried to find food options inside Sundance Kabuki Cinemas, but the doors didn't open until 12:15 PM, and we didn't want to wait 40 minutes. We saw that Dosa (415-441-3672, 1700 Fillmore at Post) was open with empty tables, so we entered and were seated immediately. A staffperson brought us water within a few minutes, and then we waited perhaps 15 more minutes before anyone else even acknowledged us. We almost walked out but instead we placed our order: for Patrick vegetarian thali and a sweet lassi, for me paper masala mini dosa with mung bean and tofu salad and a hot chai. The service was unacceptable in many ways. Deliverators consistently placed dishes incorrectly with regard to who ordered what and sometimes failed to announce what the delivered item was. I immediately turned to ask one a question but found that she had already turned and walked away. My cup of chai was empty for large portions of my meal. I liked the decor very much, but while in the men's restroom I noticed a light fixture that had not been dusted in years—so embarrassing. The timing of my meal was unacceptable. There was a long delay after I had finished my salad; I waited perhaps 12 minutes before asking a server about it. He immediately said it would be out in 2 or 3 minutes. After 5 more minutes we inquired again and the waiter became defensive and accused us of rudeness when we were politely expressing our frustration at the clearly poor service. My dosa emerged a few minutes later. I enjoyed the quality of the food and had no issues with it. Patrick found his meal to be unevenly satisfying in various ways. At the end of the meal the same server returned and apologized, including the excuse that they had not expected the Ramen Street crowds, and I felt he was sincere in his apology. When the check arrived he said the drinks were on him. He redeemed himself and earned back his tip, but we will likely never eat at Dosa again. If the manager or kitchen knew early on that there would be a staffing or production problem, I would much rather have been refused at the door than to have had the experience I did. After eating, we returned to Sundance Kabuki and watched Chef (2014) which we both very much enjoyed ($11.25 each). UberX home. Vacuumed. Uploaded photos to Flickr. Dinner at home with Patrick: butter leaf lettuce and caprese salad, hot water. Finished watching The Hunger Games: Catching Fire on Netflix DVD with Patrick. We both enjoyed it.
Sun Jul 20, 2014
Patrick and I drove to Shotwell Street where we stopped briefly at Shotwell House and then caravanned to Sonoma for wine tasting with Romy, Danny, Drew, Phil, and Richard L in their car. Viansa had a member's event and Drew purchased additional tickets so we could join. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of salad, pulled pork sliders, chicken kebabs, vegetable salad, vanilla ice cream and cookies while listening to The Butterdishes, a pair of ukelele-playing singers with pretty darn perfect harmonies. Patrick and I joined the Viansa wine club. We also visited Jacuzzi Family Vineyards where we tried olive oils then visited the charming property of Cline Vineyards where we saw interesting birds and zoo animals and toured a museum of historical California missions. We returned to Viansa for pizzas. Patrick drove us home. Rested. Dinner at home with Patrick: butter leaf and caprese salad, hot water. Culled, edited, and uploaded photos.
Mon Jul 21, 2014
Breakfast at home: oatmeal with diced peach, cinnamon, soy milk. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Spent basically the entire day trying to get landing pages artwork inserted. It was tricky because if implemented as a background image there are limitations as to how the image will scale. I finally got things to look acceptable but in a way that was probably not the designer's intent. We'll see. Late lunch at the JCC: cup of vegetable orzo soup, the daily pizza (basil, red onion, mushroom). UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: gluten-free spaghetti with fresh vegetable marinara, Jacuzzi primitivo 2011. Reviewed Sonoma photos with Patrick. Titled and tagged Kauai photos.
Tue Jul 22, 2014

Successfully completed Apple 2-step verification setup. Chatted with my mom on the phone. Dessert: fresh watermelon.

Thu Jul 24, 2014
I think I skipped breakfast today. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Only Lisa and me in the office today. Spent some time today examining the linkchecker which had stopped working a few days ago, couldn't figure it out. Minor web edits for Cindy: orientation, career. Sent the gallery feature out again for review to Burchard and Ahituv. Sushi party lunch with Lisa in the office from Kaka Udon Kitchen: seaweed salad, volcano roll, spicy tuna roll, 7 piece mixed tempura, rainbow roll. I had placed the order via GrubHub at 10:42 am asking it to be delivered at 12:30 pm. When 12:45 pm arrived without food, I onlinechatted with GrubHub who spoke with the restaurant and said it was on its way, perhaps 5 minutes. 15 minutes later the food arrived. Throughout, GrubHub was not prepared to handle the non-immediate-delivery. There was no clear option to specify a later delivery, and their SMS and email followup messages incorrectly said the food would arrive asap instead of when I specified in the delivery notes. GrubHub gave me $5 off a future order for the trouble. A rather poor experience from GrubHub and Kaka Udon Kitchen both. Content and styling work in Drupal: Dean's Office pages. Gallery prep followup for Burchard. Prepped work on PharmD content: current students and policies. Rode Muni to Destino. Dinner at Destino with Patrick using a restaurant.com coupon. From our receipt: bourbon and vino, loca-ipirinha, fresa salad, ceviche chino, plantain chips, chix empanada, veggie empanada, arepa-ropa, churrasco, glass of malbec, glass of garnacha, bunuelos. $120.71 before a $25 restaurant.com coupon and tip. Our server was Luis.

Pizza party lunch with Lisa in the office from Extreme Pizza: gluten-free green with envy (homemade pesto sauce, vine ripe tomatoes, feta, fresh basil, oregano and mozzarella), small caesar salad. Followup with a request from student TN and WarnMe (Ami and Doug). Web edits and push live for Cindy: career. Schedule edit for student CD. Sent pharmd policies section to Cindy for review. Patrick picked me up in the car. I drove to Shotwell House. Dinner with Danny, Romy, Drew, Phil, Richard L. Appetizers: cheese and crackers plate, ginger beer. Phil prepared lasagne, two kinds of bread, spinach and baby kale salad with strawberry vinaigrette. Dessert: black cherry ice cream, cream puffs, cheesecake.

House chores: more laundry, mended a polo shirt seam, mended and altered another shirt, vacuumed. Recharge Spa work for Drew: mixture labels. Edited Sonoma photos. Cut my hair, showered. Dinner at home with Patrick: basil and butter leaf lettuce salad, leftovers. Watched Much Ado About Nothing (2012) on Netflix DVD with Patrick.
Sun Jul 27, 2014
Muni L to Powell Street Station. Met Danny at Union Square. Brunch with Danny at City View. Along the way we saw runners, who seemingly had finished the San Francisco Marathon, walking the sidewalks. We were also stopped at Kearny and California by someone who was a staffmember for a film crew. Although she probably didn't have the right to stop us, I waited for a few minutes until she said we could continue. At La Boulange de Sutter (222 Sutter Street) I bought two bags of cookies: apricot and chocolate pearl. We encountered Larry H and Chris C. I returned an item at Macy's. I bought a bottle of Barefoot moscato at Walgreen's on Powell. We walked Market Street to Up Your Alley Fair. This was Danny's first time to Up Your Alley Fair. I paid $10 each for both of us. We walked the fair for a while, then we split up. I went to Temery's where I met or encountered landon, ken and jack, deej, anton, patrick. I left the fair with others, then returned. I left the fair with others, then returned. Along the way we stopped at Azucar where we met or encountered edgar, dj shawn (spinning), brian, camden, brian, john. Returned to Norfolk House.
