Labor holiday. Medium bowl of oatmeal with milk, flax meal, cacao nibs, toasted shaved coconut, toasted sliced almonds, golden raisins; hot water. Walked and rode Muni to lunch at Gai (415-535-0451, 3463 16th Street): lean gai for both, hoi an sweet and tangy sauce and thai iced tea for Patrick, hainan onion ginger sauce and mango jasmine iced tea for me. $44.43 before a $3 tip even tho it was counter service. All food and drink were delicious. We walked to Kerry and Mom Ryan's to visit a while. Afterwards we walked and rode Muni to Above It All: Labor Of Love Afternoon Rooftop Soiree at Charmaine's at The Proper Hotel where we met Suzan R and company. Suzan was impeccably dressed in a black and silver sparkly jumpsuit. We met or encountered: Tim who wore the same high-reflective shoes Suzan wore and an equally sparkly black and silver-sparkly outfit, Simon who thoughtfully wore a blue worker's coveralls outfit inspired by the laborers celebrated by today's holiday, Codey who works in computer security, artist Steven S, Saturn, Julian who once lived in Maui for a year, colorfully-dressed small business owner Lizzie, Sarah, Robert from West Covina, Wayne who shared with us his knowledge of Mary Ellen Pleasant, and many more. Cocktails (slow and pricey): Patrick had two Fifi the Fleas, and I had a Big Cat followed by a Crookshanks. Music by DJ Hawthorne was great, occasionally mixing loops from oldies from the 1980s and 1990s with vocal house, soul, deep grooves, and disco. We loved hearing those recognizable clips. We enjoyed chatting with all. Afterwards we walked to dinner at Wilkommen, whose menu had changed since our last visit. Patrick had smoked sausage on pretzel bun with sauerkraut and kettle chips. I had gulf shrimp with pickled celery root slaw, sage brown butter, local corn puree, and oregano. Patrick enjoyed his meal. I like my shrimp but did not much enjoy the corn puree. We walked and rode Muni home. Afterwards we watched parts of BMW Keynote CES 2023 | Full Video | BMW i Vision Dee via BMWBLOG (the color-changing was interesting yet also gimmicky like the rest of the presentation) then The Hidden Lives of Pets s1:e2 on Netflix. Patrick went to bed, and I joined a while later.
