Day 1 of 6 of a work trip combined with vacation to Seattle. Breakfast at home with Patrick: bacon and eggs, toast with butter. Rode UberX to SFO. Alaska flight 1371 from SFO to SEA for Drupalcon 2019 Seattle. Eric G had the same flight and coincidentally had a seat near me. We rode Link to Westlake Station then walked a few blocks to the Paramount Hotel. Eric said he needed to work on the UCSF main site launch tonight. We parted, knowing that we could check in with each other on Slack. Unpacked, settled, rested. Free wifi at Paramount Hotel is 3.74 Mbps down, 1.25 up, 17ms ping—fair for a hotel, miserable compared to our Sonic fiber connection at home. Walked one block to the convention center. Along the way while waiting for a streetlight to change a local woman said something to the effect of how terrible Seattle had become. I don’t know what prompted it. Found the DrupalCon registration desk. Entered the exhibit hall. Got my free drink: I chose red wine from a winery called Ryan Patrick. Found free food: hummus with pita and tabouleh, beet and walnut salad, seared ahi tuna. Chatted with Santiago who runs a consultancy of South American developers. Chatted with Steve at the t-shirt station about t-shirt sizes and jackets. He recommended that I look for a jacket at Topman, Superdry, and River Island. Chatted with Andrew T from Pantheon about Portland, the Space Needle, Dragonfish, and more. Joined UC people for the Acquia party at a ping pong bar called Spin. Afterwards we walked to the Pantheon party at the Museum of Pop after discovering that the monorail was closed. Fun events both.
