Not long after I awoke Patrick shared news with Tina and me about the mass shooting at the gay nightclub called Pulse in Orlando, Florida. At first Tina and I did not believe this was the largest American mass shooting. I guess we have just found ourselves desensitized enough to recurring gun violence that there seemed there have been others. I find myself in shock at this news, and yet not surprised. Breakfast at home with Tina and Patrick: toast with Marin French petite breakfast cheese and basil, fresh fruit, coffee, tisane. Relaxed at home. Tina helped me a bit in the garden. I worked on China visa applications. In the afternoon she and I drove to Fort Funston. Moments after we had arrived we found ourselves in very strong steady gusts of wind. We walked to the observation lookout, returned to the parking lot, browsed for interesting rocks, then departed—too windy and cold. Rested at home. Rode UberX to Lower Nob Hill. Dinner at Del Popolo. Antipasti: montecato fritters with brokaw avocado and chili oil; farrotto with wild morel mushrooms, sweet corn, prosciutto and egg yolk; poached northern halibut with pistachio butter and preserved Meyer lemon. Pizza: butterball potato: leeks, fontina, hot honey; house made sausage: crushed tomato, mozzarella, red onion, chili. Wine: carafe of N2 Wines, Barbera Blend, Italy, 2014. Excellent service by GM Assam filling in for a server who called in sick. For drinks we went to Pagan Idol but I had forgotten that they are closed on Sundays. We then rode UberX to Smuggler's Cove and shared a scorpion. Dane B made our drink and was pleasant to order from. Rode UberX home. Watched Grace and Frankie s1:e2 "The Credit Cards" on Netflix DVD with Patrick and Tina.
