Met with Tim S from ITFS who helped me resolve a problem with SMB connections in OS X Yosemite. The workaround was to install a special script to make SMB connections use SMB 1 rather than SMB 3. Filed pcard paperwork. History event followup: replaced two images that Ian had cleaned in our presentation slide deck. Asana task followup. Sent the first of several communications about information security to all. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Student awards dinner at Mission Bay. Rode UberPOOL home.

Met Danny at Union Square. We walked to Chinatown then to the Sir Francis Drake Hotel. Sunday's a Drag brunch with Paul, Danny, Romy, Drew, Phil, and Patrick at The Starlight Room: Cassandra Cass, Lady Tia, Kendra Monroe, and hostess Holotta Tymes (formerly with Finocchio's). We all enjoyed both brunch and show very much. Home. Rested. Dinner at Trattoria da Vittorio (150 West Portal) with Patrick, our first time. Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Scarpone, minestrone and boneless short ribs with polenta and vegetables for me, mixed greens and risotto for Patrick, pellegrino sparkling water. Dessert: two espressos and we split a tiramisu. Food and service were both excellent. $134 after a generous tip. Reviewed the day's few photos. Watched an episode of Archer Vice with Patrick on Netflix instant watch.

Met with Susan and Susie to review the history event slideshow draft they built. Information security certification Qualtrics work: added two items. Calendar management. Forwarded a request from Teresa R to Lisa D (SSL for apply.ucsf.edu). Moved an Apple Keynote presentation to iCloud so that I could share it. Was disappointed because fonts and animations did not appear as expected. Moved the presentation back to my computer. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Dropped off encrypted usb drives with James F and the OSACA. Welcomed Stephen B and introduced myself. His first day was yesterday. Set up a redirect for Lucia. Very late lunch at Moffitt Cafe: one veggie burger with fixins. Reworked the PharmD honors and awards page for Cindy and David J. Maintenance for the shared office laptop which is very low on disk space on the boot camp side. Rode Muni home, chatting with Sue A along the way, mostly about encrypting devices. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover minestrone soup, a slice of della fattoria bread (meyer lemon and rosemary) with Whole Foods artichoke-and-lemon spread.

UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Graduation Banquet at City Club. Rick drove Leslie and me, Cindy drove Lucia and Vicky. Afterwards Rick drove Vicky and Leslie home, and I alighted at Leslie's and took UberPOOL home.

PharmD Commencement at Davies Symphony Hall. This was the first year we began calling it commencement instead of graduation ceremony, primarily due to Susan H. This was the first commencement for Vicky U, Leslie M, Kevin D, and Cathy T. Rick and I led the usher group. Met or reencountered Davies usher staff: Teresa, Rick, Horacio, Jeff, Kurt, Chris, Ann. Nap. Dinner at home with Patrick: burrata and basil pizza and side salad from Baiano Pizza. The center was soggy but I was so hungry I didn't mind much. The salad was supposedly Brazilian, but it looked like a regular salad to me. For dessert we ordered tiramisu. It turned out to be what some call tiramisu, but not me. It used spongecake instead of ladyfingers, and to me it had a strong taste of pancakes and maple syrup, and although it was tasty I felt it was wrong to call it tiramisu. Patrick did not taste pancakes and syrup as I did. Packed for Drupalcon. Caught up on journaling.

Woke at 2:45 AM for a very early flight. I had a $35 Wingz ride scheduled—my first time using this service—but the driver canceled five minutes after the scheduled pickup time saying he had been stopped by the police. I then requested an UberX driver, and driver Paul arrived in three minutes and got me to SFO quickly and safely for $28.35. Waited in line for about 15 minutes because the JetBlue counter did not open until 4:30 am. No food or coffee seemed to be open in pre-security International Terminal despite a sign indicating 24-hour coffee service. Waited in line for some time because the security checkpoint was not yet open. Breakfast to go from L'Amoura: vanilla yogurt with sliced strawberries and granola. Ate while waiting for JetBlue flight 735 from SFO to LGB, seat 7A. Mom and Dad picked me up. I enjoyed seeing jacaranda trees everywhere in full bloom. They breakfasted and I ate at Huff's Restaurant: I had fresh fruit, an English muffin with butter, and coffee. We then visited and photographed the new ARTIC Amtrak train station on East Katella Avenue. At the station my dad explained that Metrolink provides commuter service to Los Angeles Union Station just like Amtrak, and I realized that it was significantly cheaper than the $20 Amtrak ticket I had purchased by earlier reservation for business class service not knowing Metrolink existed. I'm guessing and hoping that Amtrak business class is correspondingly less crowded and more comfortable. Home. Speedtest over my parents' FreedomPop internet connection: 0.5 Mbps down, 1.32 up. I turned off wifi and retested on T-Mobile 4G LTE: 2.59 down, 2.28 up. Dad attempted to show me a 50-minute dvd he made of photos that included me, but I got sleepy after a few minutes. Nap. Walked in on and joined my dad watching NHK World on broadcast (antenna) television: koalas, news, Japan Railway Journal, Yuko Yamaguchi. Dinner at Tin Tin Seafood Restaurant aka Ten Ten Seafood Restaurant with Mom and Dad. Dessert at home: turtle pie from frozen, fresh cherries. More photo slideshow watching.

Long wait for a table. Amtrak business class from Fullerton Train Station to Los Angeles Union Station: 36 minutes and about $20. Photographed Union Station. Left my bag at baggage claim. Walked to Olvera Street and dined at La Luz Del Dia: combo #3: chicken soft taco, pork tamale, rice, beans, jamaica: $9.05. Returned to the train station, claimed my bag. Rode UberPOOL to Hotel Figueroa ($4.71), checked in. Walked nearby to dinner at Panini Cafe: charbroiled chicken shish kabob with pilaf, grilled vegetables, side salad. Food and service were both excellent. Bought snacks and beverages at Ralph's: $15.47.

Spent the day working on the history event Keynote slides. Dinner with Will and Tom at Diamond Buffet and Grill ($16.99 per person). This is where I met Tom. Afterwards we drove to Burbank 6 and watched the 9:40 pm show of The Avengers: Age of Ultron in 3D ($15.49). Lots of fun.

Brunch at Panini Cafe with Patrick: oatmeal, and two eggs over medium with chicken apple sausage, potatoes and toast. We rode UberPOOL ($5) to Griffith Observatory. When we tried to leave both UberPOOL and Lyft failed I think because cellular signal was very poor. We were trapped, and it was very frustrating especially since we had not expected the weather to grow chilly with light rain. We eventually found and rode an inexpensive shuttle down the hill then rode UberPOOL ($5) to Hotel Figueroa. Rested. Rode UberPOOL ($5) to Ray's & Stark Bar at LACMA where we enjoyed an amazing meal. Returned to the hotel.

Brunch in the hotel cafe. Patrick and I packed then checked out of Hotel Figueroa, asked them to hold our luggage. We rode UberPOOL to Los Angeles Natural History Museum where we paid about $70 for a two-adult membership mostly to avoid standing in a very long line; we were leaving later today and short on time. Several of the diorama halls were closed due to the Bug Fair. We also saw the special exhibit called Grandes Maestros. We then rode UberPOOL to visit Page Museum and La Brea since it was included in our membership fee. Before entering we found a nearby Baja Fresh for a quick meal: shrimp tacos for Patrick, burrito for me. We rode UberPOOL from Hotel Figueroa to LAX where we encountered twisesq who introduced us to his boyfriend and two other friends. Virgin America flight from LAX to SFO was delayed. We rode UberPOOL home.

Susie picked me up and we drove to Mission Bay to present a history event and reception for the School of Pharmacy. We had been preparing for this event for months. I ran the laptop with the slides I had created. All went well. I had a Peasant Pie beforehand and one in the short break before doors opened. Susie drove me home. Watered the garden. Dinner at home with Patrick: mostly-vegetarian jambalaya, red wine. Finished watching The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Patrick went to bed. I played the first two chapters of The Room on my iPad. Late meal: leftover jambalaya, steak fries. Searched the web for a long time trying to find a candy from my childhood. Failed. Web work late: history microsites post-launch tasks (notably Google Analytics).

Patrick and I encountered another vole trapped outside our back door and removed it to The Wood. This one ate the leaves I gave it. Pre-brunch: an apple, water. Rode UberPOOL to the Fillmore. Brunch at Troya Fillmore with Patrick, Phil, Drew, Romy, Paul. Food and service was very good. Afterwards we walked to Sift Dessert Bar Fillmore and bought cupcakes. Patrick bought "all for the cookie" (chocolate cake topped with cookies n cream frosting) which we shared a bit later after arriving home. Rested. Watched season 1 episode 1 of Grace and Frankie.
