A 6.0 earthquake occurred in the middle of the night. I had been up for the previous half hour; couldn't sleep. Patrick had awoken a minute before it occurred. We felt shaking, rolling, and swaying, and it lasted for seemingly a long time. We checked USGS and tweets, not much aside from the 6.0 rating and a few tweets and Facebook posts. We had planned to go to Viansa with Chris and Nate in the morning, but we soon realized that we needed to change plans. Back to bed, woke around 6:30 AM. Shower. Breakfast in the room: eggs, potatoes, toast with butter, V8, carrot juice, coffee. I soaked in the rooftop hot tub while Patrick took a bath in the room. Shower, rested. Checked out. Chris and Nate met us in the lobby. Wine country plans aborted, we drove to Stanford Shopping Center and ate at Max's Opera Cafe. Nate had a pastrami sandwich with red potato salad, Chris had a giant chicken pot pie, Patrick and I shared a salmon, dill, and havarti sandwich with arugula salad. Fries for the table. Iced teas for Patrick and Chris. Afterwards we walked through the gorgeous and visually perfect Apple Store and then the rest of the shopping center. We didn't buy anything. We drove them back to The Domain and said goodbye. Patrick drove us home. Unpacked, rested. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from King of Thai Noodle. Watched with Patrick about 30 minutes of the advance screening of Cheatin! by Bill Plympton on Vimeo. Lots of amusement so far; I'm very impressed. Decided to give in to the UCSF policy to use FileVault so that I can have my UCSF calendar on my home computer and home laptop. Sigh.
