Chatted with Sue for about 30 minutes on the phone about the UFD process and mailing lists. Back to the Administration office. Mary Anne's computer: encryption completed. Shutdown and secured it. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: linguine with shrimp scampi, bread from frozen with butter. Dessert: dark chocolate gelato with single malt whiskey gelato, Pepperidge Farm knockoff cookies from Trader Joe's. I vanilla-frosted a chocolate bundt cake that Patrick had baked earlier today. Caught up on reading WDRL. Folded laundry that Patrick had washed earlier today.

Wed Feb 3, 2016

Pre-breakfast at home: one apple. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Mary Anne's computer: began El Capitan download and installation. Sprint standup by telephone. Errand: got quarters for laundry from the bank. Office celebration: I brought a chocolate-cinnamon bundt cake with vanilla creme frosting. Mary Anne's computer: began El Capitan download and installation didn't seem to work, so I started it again. An hour or two later I realized that the first download did work but the window for the installation was hidden behind the App Store window, so I canceled the 2nd new installation window and then continued with the first one. Watched a recorded Smartsheets training session. Began gathering image dimensions specifications for the identity redesign for Susie and Robin. Mary Anne's computer: El Capitan download and installation succeeded. SEP installation succeeded. DDPE installation succeeded, but following the restart it was stuck on "Macintosh HD: Preparing volume for encryption" which after much frustrating troubleshooting I later resolved by restarting with Cmd+R then running Disk Utility to resolve errors on the volume. Followup with Lawrence L about a lab website for Giacomini. Reported to ITFS a problem with Megan's computer in which Windows updates do not install. Late lunch at Leaf and Ladle: roast beef and white cheddar on baguette, demi. The bread was a little too chewy and there was way too much dijon, but otherwise it was tasty and a good value at $4.75. There wasn't as much meat as I would have put on myself, but what was there seemed high quality. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Martha Stewart's tofu and broccoli stir fry with steamed white rice, water. Dessert: Holy Gelato cinnamon gelato with chocolate-cinnamon bundt cake with vanilla creme frosting. Watched Superstore Season 1, Episodes 7 and 8 (Color Wars and Wedding Day Sale) on Hulu with Patrick. Mended a blue long-sleeve sweater using the sewing machine.

Thu Feb 4, 2016

Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Breakfast at Moffitt Cafe: eggs, potatoes, two link sausages, two slices of whole wheat toast with butter, water. Content editor training. Resolved a calendar permissions problem with Rick's calendar. Helped Joel resolve a problem printing a Word document with a workaround: save as PDF then the PDF prints successfully. Lunch from Subway: 6-inch veggie delight on 9-grain wheat with mustard and mayo and avocado: about $6. Bought two cookies and a latte from Palio (about $6) but ended up not eating the cookies—too busy. Lots of work on Mary Anne's computer. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick: Martha Rose Shulman's mushroom risotto with peas, bread and butter, sparkling mineral water, white wine. Dessert: two cookies from Palio: one peanut butter, the other oatmeal cranberry. Sold our Pottery Barn Jackson coffee table to Vansi and Evan for $49 via craigslist. Now we have more space in the garage—hooray!

Fri Feb 5, 2016

Breakfast at home: one banana and one satsuma. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Completed work on Mary Anne's computer. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Followup with a calendar issue with Apple Calendar. Lots of various email followup and cleaning of old email messages. It's Friday and I just missed the shuttle, so I decided to ride Lyft Line home. Dinner at home with Patrick: nearly vegetarian red beans and steamed white rice, white wine.

Sat Feb 6, 2016

Breakfast: a banana. Ordered replacement dark brown cotton waxed cord for my Krussell Tumba 5XL iPhone 6 Plus case. The cord has frayed somewhat probably because I clip my ID badge to it and the metal rubs against the cord. Painted scratched screws for the bathroom light switch faceplate with white appliance touch-up paint. Shower. Errand: post office to mail a package of vitamins and skin cream to my mom. Walked Taraval Street with Patrick. Lunch at Grubbin': sweet mouth waterin' and plain san pellegrino for Patrick, juicin' and blood orange san pellegrino for me, bbq luau potato chips to share. Organized stuff: moved the bicycle into the closet, moved various boxes into the garage. Polished my Alden all-weather walkers with tan paste wax. Rode Muni to Van Ness Station, walked to McCoppin Street. Dinner at Paul and Irene's with Danny, Romy, Drew, Phil, Mike, Mackey, Irene, Paul, Sarah, and the adorable dog Paddington. Seared fois gras on toasted baguette, three kinds of cheeses, french onion soup, roasted duck legs, frisee with vinaigrette, twice-cooked french fries, king cake, and lots of wine and other alcoholic libations along the way. Afterward I walked to the Castro and then rode Lyft Line home.

Sun Feb 7, 2016

Rode Lyft Line to Shotwell House. Phil drove Danny, Romy, Drew, Paul, and I to Starbuck's for coffee for the road then to Ram's Gate in Sonoma for wine tasting. Back to Shotwell House after dropping off Paul. Rested. Phil and I drove to the Sunset, and he dropped me off at home before continuing to a meeting. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Patrick and I watched Mr. Holmes (2015) on Netflix DVD with popcorn from a saucepan.

Mon Feb 8, 2016

We enjoyed the film. According to our receipt our server's name was Tolgasaurus. $66.77 before a $10 tip. Rode UberX home with Patrick: $12.12.

Tue Feb 9, 2016

Breakfast at home: egg and cheddar on english muffin. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Laurel Heights. Listserv management. Forwarded an iPad charging problem from Megan to ITFS. Troubleshot printing to the color laser printer which began working after a technician arrived to resolve it. MDI website followup: I do not have the access I need. Listserv management. Redirected a request to update Burchard Lab websites to Sandra. Made BIC live. Post-golive tasks and other followup with BIC. Followup with a prospective student request. Lunch at Artesano: albondigas sandwich, lime agua fresca: $16.50 after a $1 tip (counter service). Dessert: leftover chocolate chip cookie from last night. Wrote a long and complicated document. Late snack: quesadilla with grated mexican cheese blend and sliced green onions, two fortune cookies. My fortunes: (1) You will have many friends when you need them. (2) You will make a change for the better.

Wed Feb 10, 2016

Telecommute day so that I can be home for the Sonic gigabit fiber installation. Breakfast at home: two eggs scrambled with sliced green onions, two hash browns, one english muffin with coconut oil spread, 6 ounces of cranberry juice mixed with San Pellegrino. Spent most of the day cleaning up accounts on our legacy VPS. The fiber installation took about two hours. Installer Sa arrived at about 1:40 pm within the 12 to 4 window I was given. My fear going into the procedure was that the ONT and associated boxes were going to be installed on a wall inside my home and that I'd have to look at them all the time. Sa and I figured out a plan for the install and decided the best place for them would be inside the garage. We were able to use existing wiring which mean getting rid of coax and RJ11 ports. When he finished his work, he showed me the speed test from his Windows laptop: about 950 Mbps. He left, and I spent the next two hours rearranging our networking equipment. We still have to keep the Time Capsule for automatic backups. We still have to keep the T-Mobile Asus Personal Cellspot router because the new router from Sonic doesn't provide a guest wireless network. After many speedtest.net tests we tested watching World of Tomorrow (2015) on Netflix—seems to work but it was hard to tell if the quality was any better I guess due to the kind of animation. Dinner at home with Patrick using a recipe found on POPSUGAR Celebrity: Diane Sanfilippo's Italian-style stuffed peppers using yellow bell peppers. Played more of The Room 3 on my iPad Pro.

Thu Feb 11, 2016

Breakfast at home: egg and cheddar on english muffin, 6 ounces of carrot juice. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Sprint standup. Responded to a student with a question about encryption. Met with some OSACA staff to help them better understand how to configure a laptop or iPad with a projector. Followup tasks to the meeting: labeled adapters, installed drivers for an ethernet-to-usb adapter, wrote cheat sheets for the laptop's Windows and Mac desktops. Resolved a problem with Megan's iPad failing to charge by performing a hard reset, closed the IT ticket she opened yesterday in case I could not get to it first. Followup with IT to clean up entries in our AD OU. Late lunch from Ladle and Leaf, ate in Saunders Court: pair: chicken avocado sandwich and brussels, kale, and quinoa salad. Tried helping Joel with a probably corrupted DAT (NK2) file storing AutoSuggest entries for Outlook and only partially resolved the problem. Watched the new OK Go video "Upside Down and Inside Out"—another amazing and fun video. Lots of computer maintenance: updates for Chrome, Firefox, Java; gathered IP address, MAC address, and faceplate info for an a security audit. Rode Muni home ordering dinner from my iPhone 6 Plus via GrubHub. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery from Sri Thai: samosas, tom kha soup, mas samun curry, pad kee meo, steamed white rice, two thai iced teas. Watched OK Go "Upside Down and Inside Out" with Patrick. Finished computer maintenance remotely via Remote Desktop Connection for Mac. Stayed up late baking pumpkin bread.

Fri Feb 12, 2016

Iced a loaf of pumpkin bread. Breakfast at home: egg and cheddar on english muffin, 6 ounces of carrot juice. Rode Uber to UCSF Parnassus after two Lyft drivers canceled back to back leaving me with a 9-minute wait time. D Training in S1112. Listserv management. Chatted with Joel about an applicant. Small web updates for Cindy and Susie: merging of PC 123 and Pcol 123, closure of CRSP. Office celebration. UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Finished gathering information requested by I think a UCSF accounting team. Rode Muni home. Dinner at home with Patrick with a Stephanie Gaudreau recipe from the Paleo Performance Cookbook: garlic lemon shrimp and cauliflower grits. Continued editing a new novel by Patrick: chapter 17, pass 2. Late snack: leftover Thai noodles and samosas.

Sat Feb 13, 2016

Repaired the frayed cord on my Krussell Tumba 5XL case for my iPhone 6 Plus using cord purchased from allearringsandsuppli on Etsy, specifically STR9020CD-CF30. 30 feet of cord for $3.25 plus $2.00 shipping to San Francisco. The wax on the original cord was not shiny, and on the new cord it is very shiny, but I find it acceptable. Late breakfast: two breakfast burritos using leftover meat from Thursday's dinner, scrambled eggs, mixed blend of grated cheeses, sour cream, salsa from a jar. Checked on the garden, cut back neighbors' ivy attacking our space. Medaglia d'Oro instant coffee made with whole milk, water, and sucanet. Cut my hair, showered, cleaned the bathroom. Errand: dropped off shoes for cleaning and repair, walking part of the way with Patrick. Our gigabit fiber internet stopped working today for the first time since its successful installation three days ago. I restarted our Sonic router and my computer and then it began working properly again. Patrick's computer started working correctly without restarting, so either restarting the router fixed it or Sonic coincidentally resolved something on their end while I troubleshot. Walked to McCoppin Square then home. Afternoon snack: tortilla chips with leftover red beans as a dip, grape soda with Stevia. Continued editing a new novel by Patrick: chapter 18, pass 2. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftovers. Finished editing a new novel by Patrick: chapter 18, pass 2.

Sun Feb 14, 2016

Breakfast at home: 2-2-2-2-6: 2-egg omelette with a half-slice of Tillamook cheddar, 2 hash browns, 2 vegetarian sausage patties, 2 slices of multigrain toast with butter, 6 ounces of orange juice, water. Edited and uploaded photos to Flickr. Late lunch: turkey burger from frozen with a slice of Tillamook cheddar, mayo, mustard, and ketchup; tater tots from frozen with ketchup, water. Redrew and updated home network diagrams showing what is plugged in where. Edited and uploaded photos to Flickr. Dinner at A Desi Cafe with Patrick: chai tea, water, Taj Mahal, onion naan, tandoori prawns, chicken tikka masala, basmati rice, kulfi, gulab jamun. This was our second time at this restaurant and we liked it a lot again. Very nice service and terrific food at reasonable prices. $45 before a $10 tip. We talked mostly about Patrick's new novel.

Mon Feb 15, 2016

Troubleshot several computer problems on my MacBook Air. One problem was that SpiderOak kept spinning and never finishing. I tried a dirty reinstall which failed. I tried a clean reinstall which failed. I uninstalled SpiderOak and that fixed it. The other problem was that Office 2016 encountered an unknown error while attempting to download updates. I could tell it had something to do with DNS and found an answer on the web which fixed it: add 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to your DNS configuration—weird. Rode Muni L to Proposition Chicken. Had fried chicken as a salad with a half and half: about $17. Food was tasty and seemed very high quality. Decor is stylish, clean. Rode Muni F to Pier 39. I encountered Jason S and chatted briefly with him before he alighted a few stops later. Pier 39 advertised a tulip display which I was hoping to shoot photos of. There were indeed many tulips. I was hoping for something akin to the Flower and Garden Show or the Bellagio Conservatory but expected the worst because I could find nothing on the web that indicated it was worthwhile. It is indeed a disappointing show as flower events go. I can't recall the last time I browsed at Pier 39 and saw the sea lions, so I did so and found it to be awful. I took some photos throughout but am not very excited about them. They are just like every other tourist's photos. Afterwards I shopped in Union Square, finding hardware at Cole Hardware to mount Patrick's mirror in my bedroom and purchasing more 3M Command Strip hooks at The Container Store. Rode Muni home. Rested. Dinner at home with Patrick: indian-spiced chard with tofu, white wine. Watched about half of The Never-Ending Story (1984) on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Finished playing The Room 3 on my iPad Pro—loved it.
