Vacation day. Today Car Donation Services picked up my BMW 318ti that I donated. I used the car so little and it was 15 years old and not in the best shape. I donated it to an organization called CASA San Francisco (aka SF CASA, SFCASA, CASA SF, CASASF) that Phil had suggested. We're now a car-free household. I can now let my car registration expire. I canceled my auto insurance and AAA club membership by telephone. If we need a car for more than a Lyft, Uber, or Sidecar ride, we'll either try RelayRides or rent a car. Archived car paperwork. Shredded and organized paperwork. Errand on Noriega Street. Lunched at Thái Nghiệp Ký Mì Gia: beef stew egg noodle soup, vietnamese iced coffee. The iced coffee was perfection. The soup had something tripey in it which I didn't know to ask to omit. Otherwise I liked it. Bought doughnuts at Twisted Donuts and Coffee. Walked home. Realized I forgot to finish my errand. Returned to Noriega Street. Returned home. Rested. Dinner at home with Patrick: angel hair pasta with vegetables and flame-grilled chicken, mineral water. Dessert: donuts from Twisted.

Breakfast: breakfast taco. Sunbathed. Lunch: leftover orechiette, water. Showered. Rode Lyft Line to Recharge for a photo shoot. Photo shoot day with the Recharge team, including Phil, Drew, Amanda, Johnny, Ling, Chris, Alyssa, and Jade. We took photos across the street with a wall of greenery for a background. Rested. Rode the cable car to the Embarcadero. Ate a bento box at Delica at the Ferry Building Marketplace. Walked to AT&T Park and arrived 20 minutes early for the Trey Ratcliff Photowalk but then checked the event web page and found that I was at the ending point instead of the starting point for the walk. I wasn't sure how I got the starting point wrong, but then I found other people confused and in the wrong location. I suspect the route start and end was switched at some point. Also complicating things was that in San Francisco piers appear to increase in number from Market Street going north and they also appear to increase in number from Market Street going south. The starting point instructions were given as between piers 35 and 39, and some of the others I encountered had interpreted this to be south of Market rather than north. Before I encountered others I had ordered a Lyft Line which took me to the starting point. I arrived only a few minutes late and joined before the group photo. The walk proceeded with Trey giving his tips at various stops along the walk. It was hard to keep track of whether I was behind or ahead of Trey because I'd be distracted shooting and not always able to keep my eye on where he was. But I guess for most of the event I stayed pretty close. The route choice was perfect. The Embarcadero's large sidewalks made it easy for the hundreds who joined to walk. It was tight in some places, particularly for non-group walkers going in the opposite direction, but it worked. And this route offered so many interesting things to shoot. My night shooting skills were pretty awful, so it was good practice for me. I didn't think I'd need my tripod and realized my error when I saw so many other photographers with theirs. Today was hot, so the evening was warm until the very end of the route, and it made me realize that I rarely shoot at night because in San Francisco it's almost always too cold for me, but on warm nights I have no excuse. I stopped at Safeway to use the restroom, then rode Muni to the Castro. Dinner at La Tortilla: dos enchiladas (chicken, carnitas) a la carte, cantaloupe agua fresca. While shooting photos on the sidewalk I met and chatted with Jay S and Gilbert. While chatting we encountered Jay's friends Noé and Kianni. Rode Muni home. Later I learned that Karl B and Jason P had entered a hyperlapse I had shot while eating at La Tortilla.

Sun Sep 20, 2015

Rode Muni to Embarcadero Station, walked to Butterfly Restaurant where I met Paul, Drew, Phil, and Romy for brunch. Direct view of the bay, the decor is black and stainless steel and mirrors circa 2004. We started with drinks and calamari. Phil also had a bloody mary oyster shooter (no shot). Paul had (I think) the fish special. Drew had an angus cheeseburger. I can't recall what Romy had. Steak and eggs? Phil had the shaking beef cobb salad. I had pig in a hole egg sandwich with fries and side fruit salad. We all enjoyed the food and experience. Service was excellent. Afterwards we walked on the Embarcadero a bit but it was too hot for walking in the sun. We wanted to go someplace that was air conditioned, and Paul suggested The Cavalier so we went there and got drinks and dessert. The dessert was an ice cream terrine with toasted almonds. Rode Muni home. Rested. Dinner at home with Patrick: pasta e fagioli.

Breakfast at home: egg and cheddar on english muffin, 4 ounces of prune juice, 8 ounces of orange juice, water. House chores and home improvement. Cut my hair, showered. Snack: one green apple. Nap. Dinner at Sunset Reservoir Brewing Company (aka SRBC) with Patrick: one beer flight (we shared), soup of the day (corn chowder), two orders of fried chicken with cole slaw, side order of french fries. Dessert: cookies (almond) and milk for Patrick, salted caramel cake for me. Service by Vanessa was excellent. Lots of items were spicy. The soup had a chili oil added on top. The cole slaw was noticeably spicy. And I think the fried chicken had some spiciness as well. It got hard to tell what did and didn't have it because the spiciness lingered. The overall spiciness was near my borderline, but I tolerated it. The fried chicken used thigh meat, and I thought it was fine, but Patrick would have preferred breast meat. The meat was deliciously juicy and not dry at all, the crust crisp and crunchy; just perfect. We enjoyed our meal and shall return. Before this place existed, it was not possible for us to say we were visiting our neighborhood brewery. $90.16 after a generous tip.

While arriving home I saw one of our upstairs neighbors returning home on a skateboard and carrying a very large dining table. Dinner at home with Patrick: soft tacos. Cocktail: one part Boylan's cream soda with one part whipped cream vodka stirred with ice. I call it the Doppia Crema. Dessert: tiramisu. Spent several hours setting up a Sound Blaster X-Fi Surround 5.1 Pro audio adapter (aka sound card) and troubleshooting the configuration. I have it seemingly working but I'm not entirely certain if I'm better off than I was without it. Surround sound with an iMac and a speaker system that decodes Dolby AC-3 surround sound is extremely non-intuitive and an excellent example of something that doesn't just work with Apple. Do I still need the TOSLINK to optical mini cable? I think no, but if I remove it, things don't work correctly. On the Logitech Z906 controller do I choose input 1 or input 3? Input one is for the 6-channel input; input 3 is for the digital input. I leave it on 3 because it works and input 1 doesn't. Input 1 gives me helicopter rapid-click noise. Recharge Spa work for Chris: more October newsletter build. Submitted my color and add-on choices for the Everyday Messenger Kickstarter I backed.
