Wed Sep 3, 2014

Weight training: weighted leg lift. Breakfast at home: oatmeal with fresh, diced apple; cinnamon; unsweetened almond milk. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. Linkchecking, kiosk work. Asana ticket followup. Made live the CRSP site for Marcos C. OSACA staff meeting. Fast lunch: leftovers, chatted with Joel and Vicky about bicycling. OSACA calendar work with Lisa. Rode Sidecar home: $12. Dinner at home with Patrick: delivery via EAT24 from Taipei Restaurant. Our food took an unusually long amount of time to arrive: 90 minutes. The asparagus in the asparagus chicken was either not fresh or overcooked or both. They incorrectly gave us a second order of chow mein instead of an order of fried rice. The delicious chinese hot pocket (I don't know what it is called) was an item you don't often see in Americanized Chinese restaurants. The potstickers were very good. The hot and sour soup was good. Some food items were not hot. In all, a mostly disappointing meal. Patrick's fortune: Focus in on the color yellow tomorrow for good luck! 1 3 4 7 12 30. My fortune: Your hard work is about to pay off. 11 21 22 25 29 34. Did some work from home because I found today that I have about 200 PharmD pages to resolve within the next month. I also did some Recharge Spa work. More School of Pharmacy work: content inventory and content work in Drupal.

Sun Sep 7, 2014

Rode Muni to Powell Street Station. Took photographs while waiting for Danny to arrive. Dim sum breakfast at City View with Danny. Along the way we stopped briefly at the Autumn Moon Festival in Chinatown. Afterwards Danny drove us on his scooter to Recharge Medical and Day Spa so that he could meet a client and so that I could take new photos that Drew had wanted. After I finished, I rode Muni to the Castro and shopped not very energetically for a new belt to match my Tsubo Wexler II shoes in elephant gray and found nothing suitable. Bought a gift at Cliff's Variety. I lunched on pork ramen at Wasabi Bistro. I give this meal a mixed review. The broth was disappointingly poor in quality, an almost-wateryness that even soy sauce could not help. The pork was very flavorful and tender. The soft-boiled egg was perfectly soft in the middle, but its temperature was barely lukewarm. The entire dish was very unevenly hot. The noodles had very good texture and flavor. Service was nothing more or less than good. The dish took longer than expected given the mostly empty dining room. I've eaten sushi here before but I think not the ramen, so now I know to avoid it. Rode Muni home. Nap. Watched Hellboy II (2008) on Netflix dvd with Patrick. Nap. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover rice and beans. Completed work on home websites hiding addon domains in the form of abc.123.com when I want only abc.com to be seen.

Mon Sep 8, 2014

Breakfast at home: oatmeal with fresh, diced peach; cinnamon; unsweetened soy milk. I had thought a while ago I had had the summer's best peach, but today's was truly the summer's best peach. Its seed fell away with no small bits left behind, and it behaved perfectly during dicing—a small joy. Rode Muni to UCSF Parnassus. All day: lots of small web edits on old and new sites as well as content work in Drupal. Ordered a new UPS for Lisa. Instant webex meeting with Rebecca: six-year policy for PSPG. Listserv management. More work with the CERSI site build. Lunch: seedless purple grapes, leftover rice and beans, water from my Contigo water bottle, chatted with Vicky and Joel and Lucia about bike helmets, Muni tracks, olives. Lisa had brought a delicious loaf of olive bread to share. Entering student NN gave the office a delicious thank you gift basket of items collected from the San Mateo Farmers Market—our students are so generous and sweet! Posted an updated P1 schedule for Lucia. Got quarters at the bank, encountered and said hello to Bill L. UCSF shuttle from Parnassus to Mount Zion. Doctor visit. Rode UberX home. Dinner at home with Patrick: indian food delivery from Clay Oven West Portal. Tried watching some Aziz Ansari on Netflix instant watch but realized that we had seen everything from him that's available to stream even though my journal did not seem to have record of them all. Instead we watched a short, rare clip on YouTube of Woody Allen doing standup. Made public photos on Flickr. Uploaded a few photos to Facebook. Chatted online with quantum13.

UCSF shuttle from Laurel Heights to Parnassus. Computer Services orientation session. It was the first time I gave this presentation with student in different rooms in the TLC, a bit odd not being able to address them all directly in the same room. Listserv maintenance: edits for P1 preferred names. Name change followup. Content work in Drupal. Susie gave me a ride home. Dinner: delivery from King of Thai Noodle. Watched 41 minutes of Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Netflix DVD with Patrick.

Finished watching Captain America: The Winter Soldier on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Midafternoon meal: leftover thai food, water. Cocktails: blended banana pina coladas. Ironed clothes. Dinner at home with Patrick: leftover thai food.

Sun Sep 14, 2014

Breakfast at home with Patrick: two eggs over hard in nest of sliced red bell pepper with heirloom tomato and basil, two hash browns, two slices of prarie bread, hot water, coffee with soy milk. Housecleaning: the range, laundry. Resolved my Time Machine backup problem from yesterday by abandoning my existing backup in a roundabout way. I wasn't able to reselect the existing backup because I got to a dialog in which three buttons appeared ("choose a different disk," "erase existing backup," and "use existing backup") and it didn't matter which I selected; nothing happened. I exited (force quit) and instead specified that I wanted a new, unencrypted backup. Once that was successful, before the new, unencrypted backup began, I again removed the new, unencrypted backup and specified I wanted a new, encrypted backup, and then it began again with what I wanted. Recharge work for Phil and Drew: September newsletter. Edited photos from my Seattle and Vancouver BC trip. Cut my hair, showered. Housecleaning. Cocktails with Patrick: midori with 7-Up over ice. Dinner at home with Patrick: gluten-free penne with grilled red bell pepper in marinara sauce, hot water, Elyssia grand cuvee brut. Finished Recharge Spa newsletter work and scheduled it. Disaster planning. Did some content inventory work.

Mon Sep 15, 2014

New Time Machine backup completed. I immediately checked it and again encountered the "resource temporarily unavailable" error. Time Capsule drive might have failed, now running diagnostics. Dessert: pasticches and slices of the chocolate panforte that David J brought back from Italy. Restocked the laser printer with paper, emptied the paper shredder, tested the new headphones splitter (it works!). Regarding headphones splitters, we began with a Monster Cable AICYP 220s iSplitter Mini Y-Adapter and it must have worked for a while but later it stopped working properly. I could get it to work by pushing the plug all the way in and then pulling it out slightly. I next bought a StarTech.com MUY1MFF 6-Inch Stereo Splitter Cable- 3.5mm Male to 2x 3.5mm Female. This did not work at all even with only one set of headphones plugged in. The audio quality was terrible or simply wrong. I returned it. The one that finally worked was RadTech #13751 (Audio Gear: Cable, ProCable Shortz Audio Y-Splitter, 4-Cond, 3.5mm M-F x 2, 6in - Black). I think the key was having four conductors because I was using it with a MacBook Air. Recharge Spa work for Drew: brochure.

Chatted online with Tina first over FaceTime then because it was too choppy over Google Hangouts which was better but there was still a slight video lag.

I'm switching away from StraightTalk, and I probably should have done this a long time ago. My primary reason is that I hardly ever use voice and no more than 300 MB of data per month, so with Consumer Cellular I can pay about $20 a month instead of $45 with StraightTalk. Edited more Seattle photos.
