I dreamt last night that I had somehow inserted two contact lenses into each eye and was frustrated to discovered the problem. Troubleshot Apple Time Machine stuck on "Looking for backup disk" on my iMac. Restarted my iMac and Apple Time Capsule—did not work. Removed and reselected the backup disk—did not work. The problem then changed to "The Backup disk image ... sparsebundle ... is already in use." Discovered Pondini's C12 which said that a 7.6.4 firmware update for Apple Time Capsule resolves the problem. Discovered that I have 7.6.3. Attempted to apply the update. Encountered an error: "There was an error connecting to the update server. Check your network settings and try again." Tried bluecorner's solution of deleting the folder at ~/Library/Application Support/Apple/Airport but this did not work for me. I resolved this by using a different solution from bluecorner—creating a new admin account then applying the update using that admin account then deleting the admin account. Back to Time Machine, removed the backup drive, reselected the backup drive. Time Machine now says "Oldest backup: None" and a new backup began running but is now stuck with message "Backing up: 30.0 MB of 97.9 MB." I will let it run. Rode my bike to UCSF Parnassus.
