Breakfast at home: half of a (lemon?-)poppyseed pastry from Mara's Italian Pastry; organic oatmeal with cinnamon; fresh, diced fuji apple; california sage honey; organic whole grain plain rice milk. Erased my iPhone then restored it from backup in an attempt to speed it up. It has been very slow lately. Telecommute day. Deleted the /personnel subsite as agreed earlier with Nancy Jane, cleaned up after the delete. Updated current students page links. Linkchecking, Flickr work, kiosk work. Snack: pine nut cookie from Mara's Italian Pastry. Lots of organization and cleaning in asana.com. Followup with Shirin about the photo release consent form for entering students. Installed Office updates at home. Uploaded some photos to Flickr using the new web-based Uploadr. I found the interface confusing. Installed OS 10.7.4 at home. The installation turned out to be corrupted. During the first restart following installation my iMac showed a gray screen for 30 minutes. There was no more disk activity to be heard, so I cold restarted and still had a gray screen. I cold restarted with the power switch held in until I heard the loud beep but still had a gray screen. I restarted with my 10.6 disc and ran Disk Utility then ran Verify Disk. It said the drive had to be reformatted and the OS reinstalled. I formatted the drive. I then found instructions about Lion Recovery, but restarting with Command+R gave me a blinking folder with a question mark. Restarting while holding the Option key failed to present my Time Machine drive as a Lion Recovery source. I successfully reinstalled Snow Leopard, then successfully restored from my Time Machine backup. At the login screen OS X failed to recognize my password. I restarted from the 10.6 disc and found another option under the Utilities menu: Restore From Time Machine Backup. I selected this option, then began restoring from the most recent backup presented from my Time Machine drive. Laundry. Washed dishes. Snack: tortilla chips. Dinner at home with Patrick: partly-organic mac and cheese primavera, hot water. Washed dishes. Since my computer wasn't working and we wanted to watch a film, I moved Patrick's computer from his desk to the living room. Watched Red (2010) on Netflix DVD with Patrick. Moved Patrick's computer back to his desk. Checked on my computer restore. Everything seems to be in order again. No data loss! Washed dishes. Ran Repair Disk on my iMac hard drive—no problems found. Ran Repair Disk Permissions—some permissions repaired. Day 4 of 5 checking for jury duty: I don't have to go in.
