Wed Sep 1, 2010

Breakfast at home: organic oatmeal with organic raisins, organic nonfat milk; 12 ounces of generic V8. To work. Linkchecking, kiosk moderation work. Backed up website data to portable hard drives. Burned a copy of a dvd of images so that one disc could be sent to Susie. Installed Office Pro Plus 2010. Lunch: burrito from Carmelina's, Energy Vitamin Water, ate outside by the library. Installed Office updates. VM maintenance: trimmed down the VM so that I could back it up manually. Submitted a ticket to ITS for Carol and Dick regarding a mail delivery problem. Lots of calendar management. Office 2010 is rather disorienting. Dinner at home: chow mein noodles with baby napa cabbage, hot water. Continued work on Aggie's laptop: used DriveImage XML to clone the old drive to the new drive. Weight training: one-arm dumbbell row, reverse crunch. Late meal: organic southwestern black bean soup from a can, hot water.

Thu Sep 2, 2010

Breakfast at home: organic vanilla yogurt with organic granola and red currant preserves. Lunch: takeout from Panda Express. My fortune: Counting time is not so important as making time count. More supp app work in Drupal: learned about profile, content profile, and string overrides while building custom fields for a Create New Account screen. Dinner at home: Kingdom of Dumpling dumplings (veggie, shrimp) from frozen; hot water. Weight training: advanced bridge, crunch. Late meal: beef with country vegetables chunky soup. Continued work on Aggie's laptop.

Fri Sep 3, 2010

I can't remember what I had for breakfast today. To work. Linkchecking. Prepared feedback on MyAccess 2.0, sent it to SCWG. Helped student BN with a question about the spam firewall. Answered some questions about required browsers for Mitra. Submitted a request for a listserv for a student organization. Updated the faculty listing. Answered a question about our website from student JO. Prepared and made live the welcome packet for Shirin. To home. Continued work on Aggie's laptop. Watched Blood Simple (1984) on Netflix instant watch—loved it.

Sat Sep 4, 2010

Breakfast at home: 2-egg veggie scramble, 8 ounces of generic V8. Continued work on Aggie's laptop. Went to JY and Adrian's. Adrian served me a homemade macaroon—yummy! Andrew C showed up, then Adrian drove us all to Guerneville where we hung out poolside at the Triple R. JY, Adrian, Andrew C, Alex C, Jeremy, William, Chris L, Chris N, JC, Bill. The music was dance pop, the crowd was fun, and the scene had a wonderful vibe. Home. Nap. Dance party at 550 Barneveld. Music by DJ Kevin Lee was mostly diva house, which I did not enjoy. The restrooms were not maintained at all, no one was picking up empty drinks or mopping up spills, a bottle of water was $4 before tip, unusually creepy guys (more so than usual). I don't enjoy this event anymore. Met Adrian and Marcus (the Grindr guys).

Sun Sep 5, 2010

Breakfast at home: 3-egg shrimp and veggie scramble, grilled potatoes, toast with butter; 12 ounces of pina colada(-flavored) juice. House chores: laundry, tidying, vacuuming. Continued work on Aggie's laptop. Nap. Dancing at Fresh at Ruby Skye (Kimberly S). I arrived around 7 and liked the music from 7 to about 8:30. Bottle of water = $5 (!). Met Mike and Adrian, Calvin. Dinner at 10 with JY, Adrian, and John B at King of Thai Noodle. The line at Katana-Ya was disappointingly too long. Dancing at Sanctuary at 1015 Folsom (Matt Consola 2200-0200, Ted Eiel 0200-0600). I arrived around 11 and left a little after 3. The music was scheduled to be Matt Consola 2200-0200, Ted Eiel 0200-0600. Mostly house with a little bit of tribal mixed in here and there. The main dance floor was packed the whole time I was there. The upstairs dance floor playing the same music went from empty to 20 people and back periodically. The main floor didn't have enough ventilation for me, so I avoided it. A civil crowd with a mellow, chatty vibe. Met Steve, John, Dwayne.

Dinner at home: quinoa spaghetti and organic semolina spaghetti with mushroom and ripe olive sauce and TJ's meatless meatballs, side of corn off the cob and broccoli from frozen. Finished watching Unser täglich Brot (Our Daily Bread) (2005) on Netflix DVD. This film is like Baraka but for food production, and I loved every minute of it. It's unintentionally funny at times, and each shot is perfectly composed to reveal sometimes-breathtaking beauty in the repetitive tasks required to bring food to the modern dining table. If you want a special challenge, eat a meal while you watch it. Mended a shirt (slide brook red plaid), ironed a jacket (adams mountain khaki). Weight training: modified dumbbell fly, reverse crunch with foam cube. Late meal: leftovers from dinner.

Muni home. Drove to Aggie's, dropped off her fixed laptop. Drove to the Mission, on the way I observed that at Ike's Place there was only 1 person in line (!). Stopped in at the Shotwell House. Danny is in town from Philly for a short stay, planning to return for good. Danny, Drew, and I left to hunt for dinner. Phil and Romy both working still. Unsuccessful attempting to dine at Gracias Madre and Delfina Pizzeria—the waits were too long. Dinner at Regalito followed by ice cream at Bi-Rite with Drew and Danny. Snack: one organic yellow nectarine. Late lunch with Aaron at Henry's Hunan. Nap. GaMeBoi at Glas Kat (520 4th Street, San Francisco, CA 94107-1609). Met Roland, John, and Calvin; Antuan and Toy; Tyler; Matt and Mike; Son; Simon. PKDJ upstairs: dance pop, hip-hop, house, all very peppy with very occasional slow parts to songs. DJ Soul6 (is this Kevin Lee?) downstairs by the entrance: hip-hop and mashups, loves to scratch, frequent sharp cuts to mixes. Main floor VJ LaRock - pop dance and hip-hop favoring lots of bass, sound is muddled to the point of bordering on awful, muddle gets worse during mixes. Probably the fault of the sound system rather than the DJ/VJ. Tonight I heard a song by Super Junior called Bonamana. I had never heard this song before. Super Junior is a South Korean band, K-pop, dance, R and B. Late meal at Urban Burger with JY, encountered Monica I, said hello.

Photoshop CS5 works except when I quit: "Could not save Preferences because the file is locked or you do not have the necessary access privileges. Use the Get Info command in the Finder to unlock the file or change permissions on the file or enclosing folders." I launch Illustrator CS5. It works. I quit it. No error. I relaunch it. Wed Sep 29, 2010

This morning I awoke recalling a dream I just had: The lines at Trader Joe's were so long that I fell asleep in line standing up and that no one had bothered to wake me when it was my turn so when I woke up (still in the dream) I had to look around for my groceries which had disappeared but I walked up and down all the registers and could not find them. I haven't recalled a dream that vividly in a long time. I later realized how Inceptionesque it was to recall sleeping and awakening within a dream (though it wasn't quite recalling a dream within a dream). Encountered John B, Alex C. I ordered a drink but the bartender gave me the drink without letting me pay. I eventually paid; maybe she presumed I was starting a tab? Met Antonio (UCSF med student), Nick (NJ, Castro), Jeff, Antoine. We talked about UCSF, medical school, who was single versus who was a couple, yoga. Some politicians gave a few speeches. A writer named David Jedeikin handed out postcard ads for his book Wander the Rainbow. He talked a little about his book and then his scooter (because I asked about his Dainese jacket).
